| Quote ="altofts wildcat"The smoke bombs were bad and whoever brought them and threw them is an idiot/idiots, however they should have not been able to get them in the ground.
I was literally 5 meters away from the fighting after the game and saw it all as I was waiting to get out. For me there were 2 large Cas fans both wearing Black Hoody's or Jumpers, one who was in his 40's with Black hair and a beard and one who i would say was in his late 20's maybe early 30's who provoked an started it all. There was shall we say a heated discussion between the older of the 2 and a few of our fans which seemed to have been calmed, however then the cas fan decided to push an older looking wakey fan who I would say was in his late 50's maybe early 60's which was the trigger for starting everything. After this a Wakey fan wearing a silver coat squared up to the cas fan, they tussled, the Cas fan threw a punch which missed, the wakey fan retaliated with a punch which floored the cas fan, at this point the younger cas fan and the stewards came in the younger cas fan pushed a wakey fan over who fell down the terracing and rolled into the Crush barrier. The stewards then got hold of both cas fans and a couple of wakey fans but then inexplicably let the younger cas fan go and then it kicked off again and several more punches were thrown by both sides before the stewards regained control.
For me violence is never the answer but it was the Cas who started it but the reaction by some of our fans wasn't good however the stewards response was terrible.'"
that's as I saw it
All you could hear was the two said Cas fans gobbing off and threatening every one
The older cas fan hit the ground very hard as his punch misses and didn't get back up
The two Cas fans behaviour was awful
If you want to get drunk and fight go do it else where and do it

| Segregation has got to be the only answer for big games like this, otherwise this is what happens. Would any of us go in the South Stand at Headingley ???...of course we wouldn't as we would likely get a good kicking, and you could say the same for most away grounds, so if Cas allow their home fans to stand in the away end at matches such as this, then I'm afraid this will always happen - fierce local derby, passionate fans, too much alcohol = recipe for trouble.
We need to make sure that this is avoided at Belle Vue for the return fixture, so segregation is the only way for me, for this game anyway !!

| Quote ="Theboyem"Smoke bombs aren't as explosive but they are still dangerous. They burn at high temperatures which can causes burns if you are hit by one, can cause panic when thrown leading to injury and are dangerous to people with asthma and breathing difficulties. Not as destructive as a flare initially maybe but still nasty enough that, as you say, the perpetrators shouldn't be seen in a rugby ground again for an awful long time.'"
Indeed, as I say not excusing it but just pointing out that had it been a flare it could have been even worse.

| Didn't see this particular incident but we had plenty of abuse coming out of the ground, Cas fans were trying to goad us into a scrap, one even had the audacity to call me a fat Barsteward! The cheek of the guy, gave him a nice smile then carried on walking, think that hurt him more than a punch.

It’s a sad say when you bring in segregation. The majority of fans can and do behave themselves. Why should the majority suffer because of a few idiots who can’t?
TBH fans should be able to stand/sit where they like and not be afraid they’ll get a kicking. 99/100 if you’re not acting like a dick you’ll be fine. I’ve stood in the sounthstand many times (I prefer the view from the sideline) and never once felt threatened despite being an away fan.
The answers for me would be the following, for games against teams where there has been trouble do the following:
1. Refuse entry to anyone who looks worse for wear with drink.
2. Do more bag searches for things like illicit cans, bottles, flares and smoke bombs – any found will be confiscated – obvs flasks don’t apply!
3. Have more stewards on duty in the ground and have more proper rozzers on hand. Anyone chucked out for being in trouble gets a season long ban. Anyone arrested and convicted is banned for good.

| Timing of the smoke bombs (not flares, jesus christ) was poor. But the reaction has been blown way out of proportion. To ban the young lads from the sport 'worldwide' is pathetic! A bit of smoke burnt for around 10 seconds and didn't cause anyone any bother. No harm done.
I can't believe that some wakefield 'fans' are on here to have a whinge rather than celebrate a derby win!

That unfortunately is the issue John. You and some others don't see why there is a problem with fans throwing smoke bombs on the field.

Not defending it but they were not flares, some kind of limp smoke bomb. No way were they especially dangerous - however rules is rules and it's a 5 year ban for me for said throwers.
However considering how volatile this fixture has become is it not about time Cas moved into the modern world and segregated this game as we have. It's sad I know but we have bitten the bullet and I feel you should to. You have a group of idiots who place themselves at the Railway end purely to cause bother and our fools and those of other clubs are happy to oblige.'"
It would be a shame if we had to segregate it next year but if it stops idiots being themselves and trying to fight other teams fans then it may have to be so. We do have some idiots and I wish they'd go forth and multiply elsewhere such as playing near overhead cables with a steel bar.

The irony is that we have these strict checks at Belle Vue, and we have constant complaints about it.
The way some of the Wakefield fans have behaved recently, I'd rather be segergated and I'd rather have a large security level.

I guess that you weren't there then were you with you saying the smoke burnt for 10 seconds. The fools should be banned from any ground for as long as it takes and maybe they'll realise how pathetic they have been.

Are you for real ?
If it was "just a bit of fun" maybe you could point out the people involved and ask them to come forward.
Certainly when the Wakefield Chairman came into the crowd looking for the perpetrators, he didn't seem very amused.
As I say, point out the people involved and the rest of us can get back to enjoying the game

But it had the potential to harm people, especially those with asthma. Are you one of the brain dead morons who set them off? That type of behaviour belongs in football, not Rugby. Ban them for life.

Maybe you should get in touch with MC and tell him how no harm was done. Maybe you could chip in with help paying
the fine we will probably get too while you are at it.

So you are ok with someone setting off a smoke bomb emitting dense smoke in a crowd of 1500 packed people and then throwing it over the heads of the couple of hundred or so in front of them?

Given the amount of bother you’ve had from a minority of fans I’d say you’re stuck with the checks. It’s obvious why they happen. I think the problems start when they’re used to force people to buy refreshments in the ground rather than any real safety feature. Stuff like picnics/flasks/umbrellas shouldn’t be causing any issues but I suspect they might.
As for segregation – if the checks are done and the drunks are kept out (remember it’s an offence to serve alcohol to someone who is drunk) then there should be fewer problems and no need to have it.
There’s a chance we’ll be playing you lot at the end of the season (though not guaranteed) in a really charged atmosphere. I hope any issues are sorted by then.

Sorry but the science of it is irrelevant - I happen to get your point - but the facts are that these items are banned in every ground in every sport in this country, and that is the bottom line. Be that stupid and you pay the price, it's how law and order works!

Not in the UK they don't. Yes it happens but the offenders are usually caught and ejected.
