Quote ="Old Blighty"Not sure I am allowed to express an opinion.... But
I watch a lot of reserve grade... And this guy has been coming for the past few years... Talented player... Good runner and a try scorer... Often makes his own tries... Has done ok in first grade without being able to oust Shaun Johnston, Maloney etc.
Has been groomed away from half by the warriors to become an impact hooker... Pushing a square peg into a round hole afa I am concerned.
reminds me of a cross between Geoff bagnall and Neville ramsey...
I think he has the talent to go well.
Enjoy... Hopefullyicon_biggrin.gif'"
Good Summary. Pita is a player I know a lot about. I've followed his career since one of the Warriors development officers told me to watch this guy on one of the old club forums ( phantom Lock , no poster knows more about the Juniors / up and comers than PL....sadly for us since completing his PHD he is no longer dribbling info to the plebs...I digress )
Pita is Samoan his name is the Samoan version of Peter.........Godinet is pronounced God-in -'nay'.......not God in 'Net'
Pita has to be the most unlucky player not to have established himself in the NRL , there are several reasons, Names like James Maloney , Shaun Johnson and Thomas Leuluai have kept this comer out of grade ( those guys rarely get injured and their respective coaches Ivan Cleary / Mclennan and Now Elliot clung to dreams of unlocking the enigmatic Johnson as opposed to giving Pita a go ).
Pita can play the following positions ( ranked in order of ability and common sense )
A ) Halfback , specialist , very good on field director / organiser
B) Stand off , his running game is exceptional.
C) Hooker.....Pita is not an eighty minute hooker , the majority of his NRL games were as a bench impact hooker , he tackles well , is explosive around the ruck and has vision , an adept short kicking game makes him a genuine impact player. The Warriors were perfoming poorly in the period of 2013 ( the start of the season ) when Godinet finally got his chance in the NRL.
Immediately he became commentators favorite ( Vossy ) with the way he would pick the Warriors up ( who were inevitably behind on the score board ) and bring them back into the contest ( Pita won Fans MOM for the Majority of his games in First grade this season past ).
Most thought that Godinet had arrived and should be snapped and bolted down before the marauding Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos agents lifted him from the NZW , fortunately we thought Pita is staying.....he'll get a chance next season.
Why did Pita drop off the First grade Roster this year ?
The NZW were in crisis during the period Pita played , Shaun Johnson especially seemed to react badly to playing along side Pita ( which is surprising since they were NSW cup halves partners ).....Johnson who is an instinctive player didn't Gell with Godinet.....there was a mix up in the call in one game......and as happens when precocious star ( Johnson ) doesn't look capble of fitting in with an up and comers style.....Pita was dropped....in what turned out to be a knee jerk reaction from Elliot.
The Warriors signed the Sharks NSW cup halfback of the year Chad Townsend....I guess that more than anything has had Pita forced to look at what's best for his family.
D) Godinet can fill in at Fullback and has done so many times in his career ( You would do this in the case of Injury mid game as opposed to a starting Full back )
E) Just like one of those one of those annoying Infomercials this rant has more.....If you bare with me you might win a set of Steak Knives.....Godinet can play Wing and as with FB has filled in at Wing during games as Injury cover.
Dam good signing if you ask me.
Career Highlights :
2010 : Godinet Outplays Benji Marshall in a one off test against the Kiwis for Samoa , the Samoan's get soundly thrashed , Godinet is all over the park and scores a lone brilliant Try. Godinet arrives.
NSW Cup Grand final , Godinet Wins MOM and takes out the NSW Half of the year
2013 : Godinet finally gets a run of games in the NRL after new Coach Matt Elliot discovers Pita is the hardest Trainner in his new Team during the Off season. Recent reports from the current 2014 pre season prep is that Pita is leading training Drills and again is a stand out trainner.
My prediction :
Pita will set your team alight from the outset. He will have up and down games as all new players do after ripping into it...there will be a couple of lull games ( as we've seen here ) and unlike the New Zealand Warriors....hopefully your coaches are mature enough to stick by a massive talent in his specialist position and will reap the rewards for the rest of his first season.
Godinet is a big game player , those are always useful when you buy them from the NRL on Lower Tier NRL rates.
Well done I'm gutted.
