| Quote ="Theboyem"I'd like both an established prop and a young project one but i doubt the budget will stretch to both, so we should push for that extra first team ready player. In addition I'd also be telling Stu Dickens to keep fit in case of emergencies, kind of like Lee Radford did for hull last year. Going by his performances for fev last year, especially against cas and wigan in the cup, then he'd be a decent stop gap for two or three games if needed.'"
Top idea I would have Dickens as back up anyday. Hope he is keeping trim. Would be a far better option than putting Wheeldon on the wage bill.

| Richard Moore, Ian Kirke and Keith Mason would all be decent options as a run-on prop, to play in short bursts; Moore and Mason in particular, whilst not especially skillful, are old-school roughnecks who could do a bit of damage up the middle. Kirke is slighly less impactful, but probably a bit more versatile.
O'Meley is still quality, but is quota and probably the most expensive of the four; both of those could be off-set with the release of John, who's cover in the backs could in turn be taken up by Goulding Jr.
I don't know enough about the lower leagues to suggest any up and comers, but since Agar has stated he's looking at established props, that's probably a blind alley.
Interesting to speculate, but I'm sure that RA will get this right - he did ok last season.

| O'Meley won't be leaving Hull. Signed a one year deal which he has announced will be his last before retiring and he didn't want to play his last year for any other UK club.
I still think it all depends whether we can shift Issac John in the near future as i reckon Agars first choice is an overseas player.

Classic! You must be made up!!
Good lad though he is he is without doubt a small prop, or a midget as you'd call them - you know the sort of prop you said we didn't want at Wakefield - make your mind up

| Sir Richard Agar has hinted at Ryan Bailey on Twitter this morning; probably just more mischief though, given that it's a spoof account.

I'm not sure he'd fit under the "Value for Money" category that Richard was talking about on Tuesday night.
Bearing in mind that what we are after is a back-up really given we have Raleigh, Amor, Wilkes and Poore as first choices. Can't imagine he'd be a cheap option so to get value for money he'd have to play a lot of games - would he get that?

I agree, but that wasn't the point.
Last year you dismissed James, Johnson and Raleigh a midgets yet all are bigger than Dickens. Why the change of heart regarding size?

Unless the guy we are after isn't back up but earmarked for a first team place.

You mean t'aribo, surely?
It most certainly is a spoof, one that someone prominently placed at the club accused me of perpretrating via a DM on Twitter a couple of months ago; I was suitably chuffed off.

| If we go into the season without a 5th and we get injuries I'd like to see us have a go for Singleton on loan. We can do an Amor with him.

Possibility I suppose but that then makes one of the other 4 an expensive back-up option, doesn't it??

A different perspective could see this as 5 players all working their socks off to get a first team place. Id be happy if we had different prop combinations each week if they had to work hard to gain a place in the squad.

If eveyone is fit, yes. But both Raleigh & Wilkes can play second row if injuries strike. Or he might want to try the modern way of a third on-field prop at loose forward (as leeds do) buy way of a tactical change or if Washbrook is either injured or covering elsewhere. It makes sense to have someone who can add to the team rather than just fill in. Agar has said he wanted this years signings to give quality rather than quantity. Gives genuine competition for places thats for sure, which is only a good thing.

| Hope Vic Mauro is the addition although only about 5 ft 10 tall according to Manley website but he's about 17 stone. He appears to be SL quality if he can get into the Manley NRL starting line up. He'd add some punch but we'd have to offload John for the quota spot first.
