Welcome to the emotional rollercoaster known as Wakefield Trinity Wildcats RLFC! What a great year to start.
I've been following since the early/mid eithies. I've seen us promoted three times, relegated once, demoted once (
RFL). I've seen us win a Grand Final (Championship, not Super League) plus win and lose a Yorkshire Cup Final. All this along with weekly dramas in person or via the radio/internet. Also seen some class in the likes of Ray Price, Steve Ella, Geoff Bagnall, Nigel Wright, James Leuluai, Michael Jackson. True grit determination to the club in the likes of Nigel Bell and my favourite Billy Conway.
I've seen some quality and dire rugby. Seen some classic tries, most notable one for me (against us) was Jonathan Davies at Belle Vue (for Widnes) running from his own in goal line to cover the full length of the field and score at the (now) Benidorm flats end whilst evading virtually our full 13!
I remember the stench of pipes and cigarettes, seen drunkards evicted, fans rugby tackled by policemen on the pitch, ashes scattered near the posts just prior to kick off. I've seen Jonny Thompson go toe to toe with Benny Elias when the Australian team played at Belle Vue.
I've seen so much and yet so little. I hope you have more highs than I have so far and lesser lows. I look forward to seeing us win at Wembley or being Super League champions during my time as a fan.
In the early days of my watching I heard on the western terrace the phrase "It's just like watching paint dry." Well, for me it has never been like watching paint dry, it has been an emtional journey of joy and despair.
