If he remains consisstent I would have no worries about a contract extension.'"
Agreed, in relation to Brough, given they seem to have missed out on Smith to Wigan, Brough will be in demand.
As Anderson said this week good halves in SL are as rare as hens teeth and with the increase in the Australian salary cap and the exchange rate top halves will not come to SL.
The big clubs that were all chasing Smith of Salford (who is at best a good prospect) and also the rumours of transfer fee's being offered to Cas for Chase highlights just how desperate clubs are to secure what half decent halves there are knocking about.

No shortage of H/Bs just a reluctance amongst coaches to give British ones a real chance. Your own clubs decision to waste Tomkins at FB when he is a HB - something you were saying 18 month ago.
Finch got a season to get it together, do British lads get the same?
Woods at our place has all the makings of a H/B but he just won't get the chance IMO.

I think we offer smith a extension to the contract as he now seems to have settled and is playing very well. Offer Mathers and sykes a contract get in another prop and we will be there or there abouts

My big hope with Smith was that we got a second season syndrome out of him should we have extended his contract - ie he clicked in the second season.
Now I'm worries he may be attracting attention from other clubs - we need to decide now whether he is our man or not

I think if things progress as they have over recent weeks Smith will make himself a real prospect for next season, if not here then elsewhere, as will Paul Sykes.
Both on current form are worth two year contracts.
Aiton signed up for longer, Mathers made permanent and a bit more meat added to the bones in the pack and i think we are shaping up nicely for an improvement going forward.
Perhaps Wood will have been given a decent run and John progressed too.
Add a few youngsters getting involved and i think we'd all be fairly happy.

He's only on a one season deal isn't he? If he didn't perform in year one, there wouldn't be much chance of a second season to have any kind of syndrome in.

In my opinion I think we should decide now and sign him up on an extended contract. I've always felt he could play but I think he is showing it more recently as I think the forwards are performing better particularly Raleigh who has improved tremendously in my view.

| I think, if the club were to start discussions this would be a huge confidence boost to Smith, show him that he is wanted and we may see even more from him than over the last few weeks.
It would also make a statement of our intent to other SL clubs, that we have quality players and we will do what is possible to keep them here.
Its a WIN/WIN situation.

| Broughy was seen down at the club last Wednesday for whatever reason, its surprising it has not been mentioned on here before now, I thought the OP knew something nobody else did, but apparently not unless he is just teasing us, If you know something why not share it with us all

| Whilst aware of Broughs undeniable class I haven’t forgotten the way he left Wakefield, his berating of young kids & an abject performance against Huddersfield.
If only we could get Benny Westwood & Gaz Ellis back, blah, blah.
It’s time to move on, look to the future, hopefully in a new facility, where I pray the fans don’t chant Belle Vue, Belle Vue.

It feels strange to say, but I think I agree - Broughy is yesterday's man in terms of WTW; we have to look to the future.

I agree too.
Of course some players like Gareth Ellis or Ben Westwood have changed as players and if we got them they would just be class players being brought to the club. I'm pretty sure no one at the club now with the odd exception of part time workers, would have been at the club when they were here.
Whereas recent leavers like Brough or even Murphy and Fergi are gone now. They are Huddersfield players. I'd rather grow or search out new talent and create new players proud to play for Wakefield.
We've already seen this team grow and start to be proud of what they do. Just add to that base rather than try to recreate something that is lost.

| Wouldnt want Brough back after the exit he made yes a talented player and did well for us but no thanks.Think we should be more interested in keeping Mathers,Sykes and Smith the way he and Sykes have hit it off.We should also be looking at a powerfull no nonsense prop as one never knows but lets keep quiet on that.

Sam will move back to the halves this year at some point to allow us to rotate/rest players and give younger talent a chance. Sam has been a revelation at 1 though, to be fair you could play him anywhere and he would make an impact. Sam plays as a traditional 6 (ie second receiver acting as an extra half)
I am struggling to think of 1 top quality half prospect that is ready to step up.
Wigan have 2 young lads one a Wakefield lad who look the part, but they are both some way off first team rugby.
The 2 lads ahead of them who looked like world beaters at Academy level have struggled with first team rugby. Mellor looked top class but look anonymous at Widnes.
The next generation of British halves will come come from the ranks of the current 15's and 16's I see very few class prospects in the 18's and 20's in that position.
Gareth O'Brien at Wire looks as good as any who have made the recent step up and not looked out of his depth.
The way things are at the moment though anyone with the potential will get the chance as overseas recruits are less and less viable.

hard to understand because you said this:
Quote ="1873"The alleged story goes, when JK left Hull, "Peter, First job is to get rid of that poisonous little".. you get the rest.
I do not think RA is a fan.'"
Why would JK talk to Peter Gentle about Danny Brough? They were all at three completely different times.
If Jk had talked to Agar, who got rid, or Agar had talked to PG about someone else.....or even if JK had talked to someone else called Peter about Agar it would have made sense.
What you wrote does not.
