| Pete Riding will always try and poach players from Wakefield he's from the area knows the school & amateur clubs inside out and we produce alot more players than Huddersfield. He wouldn't be doing his job right or be very successful if he could only pick players from huddersfield

| Wakey fans have been banging on about how mr glover as said he is going to bring in his vast wealth to help finance the club- so either he's lied or this deal is not about the money.
Youngsters often don't look long term or make the right choices- I know a lad plays for England schoolboys when offered three scholarship options decided to take the one offered by Warrington over his hometown hudds- his reason? Better facilities? Better coaching? Because Warrington had just won the challenge cup!
Would this lad want to stay at Wakefield at a team who languished at the bottom of the table with a team of no-names or move to Huddersfield to a better stadium
Playing alongside England internationals who finish near the top of the table? It's not always about money

Youve just made that up.
Unless you can point me to the link where Andy Glover said this!!!
But he wont be playing along side England Internationals for some time, hes not even signed a full time deal, nor is he in the first team squad. So the chances are he will simply be playing with players of similar ability as to what he did at Wakefield in the academy/reserves.
Have you wondered why if this lad is so highly rated, but neither Wakefield or Huddersfield have offered a full time deal.

Absolute rubbish, Glover when he came on board, said he was going to run the club like any good business and not spend money we don't have and make us financially sound. Everyone here knows he's not some big time multimillionaire, he's obviously got some money but he doesn't throw it around for the sake of it.

But the majority of the time it is. Don't tell me all these youngens are signing for Hudds because of the prestige (your not a Leeds or Wigan) and facilities. It's for one thing only and that’s money! Shame the lads that sign can't realise that opportunities will be few and far between.

| Lifted from the Huddersfield board. If correct it shows that all clubs take players from out of their areas. Always have, always will.
connemara kid wrote :
few of wakeys new young signings
jack anderson from hull played for shaw cross ( kirklees )
ben warrilow form warrington played for newsome ( Kirklees )
luke metcalfe from fev from cas
brad day from leeds played for hunslet ( leeds )
cameron leeming from leeds
none of those from wakey, so you are doing same as everyone else
for the record i like wakey and want them to do well but i dont agree with the story that all other clubs do is steal your players

| Huddersfield have failed with their youth rugby set up. It is a disaster and how Riding has kept his job for so long is beyond the belief of everyone involved in scolarship and youth rugby. Last season their under 20`s finished bottom of the league and their under 18`s were a complete shambles. Nothing to do with the quality of players they have prized away from other clubs with uncle Kens money. There are tales of players turning up for training to find out its cancelled, of players told to train on their own for months on end etc etc. The competition coaches from other clubs play a game whose aim is to try and name a player who Riding and his team has identified themselves, signed and improved. They just throw Kens money at players produced by other clubs.
Just for the record Walker was never our Academy player of the year, he has been at Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield, he was not an automatic selection last season and did not feature in all the games. I am sure that many good judges will suggest that Wakey have the better player out of this deal.
You also have to take into account who his representative is, namely Mick Robinson. I note that all MRs players have left the club, Griffins and Gledhill etc etc, now Walker has gone, one would also imagine that MR will be trying to get the last of his players away from Trinity. One can only conclude that MR has fallen out with us. If I was a betting man I would gamble that MR is trying to get the last of his players, Adam Gledhill to a new club. That said I think that Gledhill has another year with us.

| Yes I agree, uncle Ken can throw his money around but while ever Riding is spending it for him he will fail.
It was a good day for our club when Riding jumped ship and we brought Tony drury in. I am sure that when
the new funds the club have pumped into youth development start to take effect Tony and his team will really
start to produce the quality players we need,

Exactly, Wakefield as an area has always produced plenty of RL talent and always will. Same can be said about other RL hotbeds like Hull & Wigan but Huddersfield dont have this luxury so have to look in our area for the youngster. The trick is for us to have first pick on the young RL conveyer belt the Wakefield area produces and I think the new set up is trying to achieve this goal.

| Sharp was the coach- you really think he goes off scouting or do other people bring these lads to the attention of the club as decent prospects. Only this week lunty commented on how much he owed riding for bringing him to the giants.

| All seems a fairly spurious argument in the case of Joe Walker as to whether Huddersfield have' plundered ' him from the Wildcats .
Joe played stand off in a half back partnership with my nephew ,in the Bradford service area team and was originally on scholarship with the Bulls ..so you could argue that the Wildcats 'plundered' him after another pro club had done much of his early development work.

I will give a for instance at my lads age level there has been only three or four teams within the Wakefield area (cas included)that have managed to compete with each other, all others have fallen way behind over the last two seasons there hasn't been a team at his level in the Huddersfield or hull that can even compete against the best of Wakefield.
now that's not saying that you might not have a starlet in the making but goes to show that over all more players are being developed over this way.
you only have to look at your academy and see where the players come from to get the full picture
its not going to be possible to keep hold of all academy players and some will have to move on, this will also be due to the age limit in the reserves
come back in a few years time when you can proudly say we didn't buy most of our players in

for that to be said it must mean that the bulls are starting to lag behind as well
I bet you wish the Burgess family had still a few more lads down the line
