You are spot on. This is something that I think football teams do better than rugby teams.
I think that our problem is that if you look through all our shirts throughout our history we have never really had a set design as such.

And Saints and to an extent Leeds (apart from that horrible quartrs shirt and the pink, which I think is for chariable reasons?).
Other iconic looks are the all red of Liverpool and the black and White stripes of Newcastle Utd.
Change the collars, swap the bands for a v, the thickness of the bands and v's, alternate yearly a new home and away shirt.
It's the iconic look of Wakefield Trinity, a marketing tool not to be underestimated, and our brand identity.
We have it for free, company's spend millions developing one and we have one ready made and for free because of our heritage.
It's not rocket surgery, it really isn't.

Agreed. And don't get Jackson Pollock to design the bugger. Create someting that looks like a rugby league shirt, in good quality, with the team colours on it, and people will buy it.

I agree but it can be tweaked every other year, still remain the same and generate brand recognition, identity continuity and of course income.
Everyone wins and the brand grows.
Every year for about 10-15 years I bought a replica Newcastle Utd shirt, they were essentially the same, but the hysteria in the area for nee shirts is huge and Newcastle are not what you would call serious success.
But the brand is essential to the people of Newcastle, I firmly believe we have missed a trick over the last forty odd years and the trinity identity has all but gone to the cities population, all but us few thousand.
It is there still, but hidden under city that's lost a lot of it's pride and it could once again shine.
For us to get to the top, and I seriously think over the next two franchises with a bit of luck we could, we need to reignite the brand, I'm sure AG and JE know this, but us and the rest of the city need to regain our belief and pride and make it essential and then make it happen.
It's the only way, but I for one think it's possible and the city would gain from it as a whole.

| Totally agree Wakefield Trinity can, has and will do alot to regain people's pride with the CIty. Get back to our traditional strip and make our clubs colours easily recognisable as Wakefield Trinity the world famous brand. Hopefully Wakefield Trinity will become something the City is proud of and not something that let's the City down

I don't think that's our main problem, tbh. This year's Wigan shirt bears little resemblance to traditional Wigan shirts. They've still sold enough of them though, on the back of a successful team. And that's where the real issue lies.
Personally, I prefer the "v" to the hoops, but as long as the shirt has the club colours and doesn't look like some avant gard artist's mess, I'm fine with it.

I don't not agree, but wigans heritage and identity is all within living memory, ours isn't for a lot of people and forty odd years of decline and catastrophe have taken over.
We have IMO to replace the bad brand with the good brand if you like, and one of the ways of doing it is by over promoting the good aspects of the club.
The trinity tradition of the 60s is one that lends itself to the job well and its relatively simple to buy into.
Of course other things such as team matchday experience and success are all on with or difficult to achieve, to build club wealth and help make us more self funding (to add to external income) and thus make team strengthening easier, which of course then leads to the success aspect, hopefully.
Many of us would but kits no matter what, others are more choosy and we need everyone's cash.

The Wigan brand has existed as long as the Wakefield brand in RL terms. The difference has been success on the field. The colour of the shirts has by and large remained consistent in living memory. "V" or hoop, all supporters want to see is a successful team on the pitch and a good quality shirt in a generally acceptable design to go with it.

Over the years we have had kits that could have been anyone's, there haven't been many that would have been identifiable as Wakefield Trinity.
Add that to no success and the brand identity disappears.
Wigan have been so successful they could have started playing in yellow stripes instead of red hoops and because they for so many years were the face of RL to many would have got away with it because their brand is so strong.
Our situation is this, our brand is lying dormant, it wouldn't take much to awaken it in the present set of circumstances.
Re launch the traditional shirts, build a stronger team that can start to challenge.
The press for once have done us a bit of a favour, they have done us down and astonishingly we are still here, we have a real Phoenix from the ashes story that we need to start peddling and using the press to promote our story and our brand.
We really need to start work on building a strong identity that the people of Wakefield can get behind, tie it in with the strong image of the past.
This is where the shirts come in, identifying with the potentially massive Trinity brand, it's simple and it's the first step.

There could be something in that - with WTW potentially rising from the ashes, it would be quite canny to recreate the shirt that's associated with our last period of dominance; it might just be another cue for some of those people who's interest has waned to give it another go.

I don't agree, because they are still cherry and white hoops, albeit after someone has puked cherryade all over it, but still fundamentally cherry and white hoops.
If you go back over the past few seasons, the 2006 and 2010 home shirts were pretty much Trinity shirts (although the colours were a bit iffy on the 2006 one). The 2007 and 2009 shirts were nothing like Trinity shirts. And so even in the last five years, there is no brand identity. If you compare the 2006 and 2010 shirt, and then the Wally Lewis shirt, they are good examples of fundamentally the same design, but all massively different. It doesn't seem that hard to do.

| I think one of the reasons we moved away from the 60s design is because it eventually became a symbol of mediocrity as the fortunes of the club declined. In many ways the guys pulling on the shirt made famous by Fox, Turner etc were, if anything, bringing the brand down. I was glad to see the back of it even if I did love that shirt and the era it represented.
My fav shirt is the one with the chevron, worn at Wembley and reserected during the Brad Davies era. Luckily we don't keep a design long enough these days to let it gain much of a stigma. Also like the blue and red hoops of a season or two back. Looked good on the ladies for some reason...

Not sure I can buy into that as Leeds, both football and rugby, were terrible for years but haven't gone too far away from their traditional shirts. (And yes, I know LUFC only adopted the white shirts when Revie took charge to ape Real Madrid, and the Rhinos had a couple of awful shirts in the mid-90s, as everyone did.) I'd rather us have a traditional looking shirt than some of the awful ones we've had in recent years.
These were so crap, I didn't even buy one in the sale:
And copying the England rah-rah shirt, but worse (and modelled by a 'great' ex-player)?

| Whilst I like this seasons design and have bought both home and away shirts, the quality is rubbish and the badge is not embroidered. The sizing as people are saying are incorrect, not european, I also bought jogging bottoms and had to get two sizes smaller. If next seasons shirts are the same quality I will not be buying any.
