| I understood it that the minimum lease agreement had to be 5 years but the commitment to play there was open ended- hence if the new stadium was ready in 12 months then the lease would be terminated by mutual consent- so playing at Oakwell for instance would not be for 5 years.

I understand that and it would be all well and good if Barnsley or the council would be ok with a openended deal, but if this thing did drag on for even a 3 year period (thats not to say it will as it could all be sorted in 12 months) i think the damage it would do to the club financially would be very detremental to its future existance.

You could be right but it may come down to Hobsons choice ie. Barnsley or nowhere!!!

| I suspect our plan B was inextricably linked with plan A, and was only meant to tide us over for a few months until Newmarket was completed. As a long-term plan, it would struggle to save a franchise. Much depends on the amount of rent we'd be paying to play there, of course, but the loss of other revenue streams for a club that is already struggling to match the big spenders would probably be too much. If we were to relocate the franchise, in true franchise style, then we may as well pick Birmingham or somewhere sufficiently far away for the RFL to keep the Wildcats brand alive at all costs. Of course, this would have nothing more to do with Wakefield Trinity, which would be gone with Belle Vue.

I can't believe that there was no planning for one of the possible outcomes, and the Plan B, whatever it is, may only be for a season longer than first anticipated. I reckon we could survive that. We probably wouldn't do much on the field, because we would probably play young players, but it would keep us in the hunt.
I don't think the issue is how our Plan B would fare financially. It would be how the Plan B would go down with the RFL that would be the issue. Plan B and NL1 combined would be the killer blow, not maybe just one of them.

Agreed mate. If we have a well thought out plan B (which I doubt), it should already have been agreed and be capable of being made public before the end of this week. This would at least give us some small hope for the future.
We are past masters on putting all our eggs in one basket and it coming back to haunt us.
Say what you want about Dicky Wright (and I think he's a tool), but if Cas manage to build their Stadium that is some achievement in the current climate even if it may take longer than they originally stated.

That's fair comment, and to be fair to Cas, the obstacles have been external factors, such as the chemical licence. Although I don't understand all the ins and outs, the impression I get is that if Hicksons wasn't where it was, they would have been playing at Glasshoughton for a couple of years.
Our problem has also been that we have never been in charge of our own destiny, and strokes of the pen by two sets of politicians have cost us.

| 5 year contract to play at Oakwell RFL approved, option to come out of the deal early when Newmarket is ready. Newmarket project is still on, York court and the community trust are more determined than ever to deliver this project plus major retail company wanting in on the project, every little helps. New money and people coming on board, new City centre shop to keep a City centre presence while playing at Barnsley. Thats whats been doing the rounds in the merry city and is what will be presented in the Shareholders meeting in a couple of weeks. Everything doesn't seem as bad as it did yesterday

They cannot be in a rush for wharehouse space if they are prepared to wait 1 or 2 years for something they could have now on the M62/A1 within a few miles of Newmarket.

You’re probably correct, a quick fix for a few months, however, if that few months were to turn into a full season, hey-ho.
Then if the powers that be fail to get the stadium passed & built in two years, it’s a poor show.
Sure, the revenue streams will suffer, but we would have to dip into the proceeds from the sale of B.V, it’s not as if we haven’t before!
Regarding players, why not go for something radical like the promise of a fully English team, what’s the worst that could happen.

| I suspect that there was always a Plan B, and talks with Barnsley would have been taking place for quite a long time. A years lease would probably be of no interest to them, and a 5 year one too long and expensive for you. Talk about walking away from a long leasing agreement is a none starter. You agree to pay for x number of years, whether you are physically there or not. I suspect a 3 year lease would be agreeable to all parties, including Redhall.
So, where does that leave Wakefield Trinity?
Still in SL for the next season, and with all to play for, and a good season would lift all their real fans....and send a timely 2 fingers to Redhall! Depending on finances and negotiations with the RFL and Barnsley, I don't see why there shouldn't be a confident application put in for the next round of Franchises. You may have to travel a bit further to watch your team, but as I've said before, a stadium is only bricks and mortar, it's the team and the fans who are important, not a postcode.
The PI will decide in its own time whether Newmarket will stand or fall, so whilst I understand your obvious disappointment, the fat Lady hasn't began to warm up her vocals just yet!

| If a two year deal could be agreed upon with the owners' of Oakwell to tide us over until we get the nod from the sos assuming that we do and the new ground gets built, then how could the RFL overlook our choice to play there when they have already allowed St Helens to do so at Widnes. Financial costs even in the championship are spirelling out of control so for a two year deal I am sure Mr Cryne owner of the club and part owner of the ground would welcome any extra source of income that is guaranteed for two year, and it is a known fact that the other Oakwell partner BMBC are also struggling financially so with some astute bargaining some solution that satisfys everybody could be found, and baring in mind that nobody will extend the arm of friendship that far and let us use their ground for next to nothing, on the basis that we are going to have to pay then we might as well pay for the best facilities available to us which would be at Oakwell.

| I believe that St Helens have a contract to build a new stadium and Widnes is a definite stop gap measure. We however would be using another stadium for an unknown period of time as we don't definitely know we have a new stadium.
