There are many who deserves some credit but three in particular spring to mind.

One is TRB who due to certain unfortunate incidents has had to fight the SWAG cause almost single handed on occasion. Despite this he has had to face ridicule and abuse on this very forum, continually defending the clubs position as best he could and never losing his rag. One of the main reasons I stopped posting is bcause I have not got that level of self control and thus didn't want to antagonise the situation. The club and fans owe TRB a huge debt.

Two is Prince Buster who until a recent problem was like a pitbull in his determination to NOT allow WMDC to dodge it's responsibilities. Many a Wakefield politician will be glad not to be on the wrong side of PB for a change.

Third and the one I feel very strongly about, Ted Richardson. He has had to take endless abuse (club run like a corner shop and other such drivel) for the way he has run the club from a bunch of ignorant self serving fools. Yet it was Ted who picked up the pieces after the Thornes fiasco and it was he who found Yorkcourt and got the show back on the road. This despite massive financial problems of his own that would frankly of forced a lesser man to walk away.

However today is a great day and a new start for ALL on both sides, so let's let bygones be bygones and move on. Well done to all.

Outline, 'minded to approve' afaik, subject to "the removal of a direction by the Highways Agency concerning travel plans for the development and whether central government decides to call the application for a potential public inquiry", according to the YP

This is fantastic. Well done WMDC, well done Ted, TRB, Diane, everybody at the club, all SWAG, everyone who signed the petition, Sir Rod and anybody and everybody who supported the plan. Lets see it through to full approval now and build ASAP.

I still have close to zero trust in the RFL and their highly questionable decisions, this however is more fuel to our fire shows we are a club of ambition. A sleeping giant who will soon awake again.

Is it going to be a month before we know if it is going to Public enquiry or not? Or realistically is it going to take longer? Anyways well done SWAG.

Just want to get my name down here in congratulating everyone who's had some positive input throughout this process.

I've just returned from the meeting and can 100% confirm that a "minded to approve" decision was made.

The vote was passed unanimously but more than that a number of the planning committee made enthusiastic statements regarding their position of support for the whole development which includes the distribution centres and the economic benefits and jobs they offer.

Legislation demands that the plans now be passed to Government to consider whether they wish to call it in or pass it back with the latter being expected.

The developer has confirmed that they will build the stadium working to the time constraints set by the RFLs franchise proceedure meaning a targeted opening date of early 2012.

A certain part of the discussions centred on the assurances by the developer that the stadium be built first or at least in conjunction with the first commercial units. The developer confirmed that this would be the case as the funding for the stadium is intrinsically linked with the wider development.

There were assurances that the stadium is fully funded!

Three of the opposition speakers failed to attend and the three that did speak were poor. They had very flimsy grounds upon which they voiced their objections and were quickly undone by the simplelist of cross questions. The worst of the lot was the main protagonist who made numerous claims but a series of requests for evidence or the naming of where his official reports had come from revealed him to be a liar.

All of the speakers we put up were very good and between them they presented a very balanced case which included all aspects of the benefits this development would bring. Ranging from economic, jobs, better transport links to the area, regeneration of the East of the district, protection for the City's only premier sports club, the huge community benefits that the club provides etc etc.

Great news, always thought it was too great a development for WMDC to turn down,big thanks, to all those that have been involved in this project and onwards and upwards.

Don't you mean, " I hope it goes to a public enquiry". Such was the amount of opposition, that two people who were designated to speak in opposition did not turn up.
