Probably, but then Jeffries was bizarrely signed up on a three year contract, so perhaps this is more down to age and the fact he only started 4 games in the season just passed.

Hope he goes well but I must admit i've never rated him as a halfback. Still better than nothing I suppose which is about the limit of our ambition.

I can remember him been absolutely awful against us in 2009.

Came over as a stand off but never set the world on fire there and, to some extent, only kept his place in the side because Richie Myler became completely and utterly awful mid season after he'd been tapped up by Warrington. Was moved to scrum half last season but lost his place quite quickly to Matty Smith. Came back into the squad in the second half of the season as a hooker alongside Malcolm Alker and played pretty well there.

Can't say i've been impressed when i've seen him play. Hopefully he's lined up as a hooker as he is certainly not the SH we require. Tommy Lee is apparently also signed up which would indicate Smith will play in the halves. Knowing JK he'll probably play Smith at loose forward.

From my understanding we only had one space and that was filled with JJP. I was under the impression we couldn't sign Laeano and now we've signed Smith you'd imagine either Obst or Jeffries are leaving to accomodate his signature

IMO you should have been aiming for Ratchford if anyone from Salford, struggled to get a starting slot in what I feel was a weak Salford team.
I don't think he will answer your questions and is a poorer version of Obst.
Hopefully there will be someone else lined up as well. I do hope he does well for you guys though

Smith is an adequate hooker but a poor signing if hes going to play scrum half. May as well re-signed Cooke, hes better and at least he wouldn't have been on the quota.

To be honest he's pretty poor without a Brough type player to compliment his style of play, I don't think Smith is that person so it makes sense if it was Jeffries to make way.

I am not the type of person to criticise departing players and I'll give you an honest assessment. When Salford signed him he was playing reserve grade in the NRL and McRae said he was the kind of player needed to get the team around the park. The Salford fans had high expectations of him because he was a former New Zealand International. After watching him play 2/3 times I was disappointed but put it down to him not playing top level football for a while. During his first season he did improve a little and I couldn't fault his work rate. The problem is for a halfback I don't feel he creates enough and his kicking game is less than average on a good day. One of his biggest faults is his disapline, he tends to give away quite a few penalities. If i'm being truthful I would say he isn't capable of playing halfback at Superleague level and I was pleased when McRae played him as an interchange hooker towards the end of this season. This position seems to suit him better and in fairness he did OK for us in this role and looked more dangerous. When I heard he was being released I wasn't surprised because I'd imagine he was on a fairly big contract. This said I would have kept him on a reduced contract as an interchange hooker for next year if he wasn't a quota player. For Wakefield maybe just maybe John Kear will be able to get much more out of him? but I wouldn't put your house on him being the answer to any problems you may think you have.

strange signing to be honest, and maybe more important as to whos leaving than to whos coming, if it is jefferies or obst im afraid its more of an indication to me of the problems we really have , especially if its jefferies as hes on a longer deal.

BJ is tied into a 3 year deal. So we should get a fee for him if he leaves. Really hope its not Obst that isnt going!! That would just indicate where we are heading for, NL1.
