| Interesting that the Leeds (spit) planning office seem to be confused about brown field and greenbelt?
Also they admit they were planning to develop their side 18 years ago, so maybe they're worried that if the development goes ahead the opportunities to develop on their side will be reduced.
It is also clear that Leeds (spit) have been consulted from the start.
Taking out the erroneous stuff that comes from the NIMBYs (double spit), it seems the basis is no more than the greenbelt objection which has always been there. Although an objection from Leeds could carry more weight to it getting an inquiry.

| THE SITE ISN'T GREEN BELT!!
For anyone that's worried about this go away and research the local development framework!- which was put into place in April 2009. There has been a desire to develop this piece of land since before we (WT) were involved!
-There is nothing to worry about!!!

Very true. Morley leisure centre was knocked down and rebuilt within a couple of years. Sun Lane was knocked down an age ago and I think I heard they are submitting plans for a new swimming pool on Sun Lane! All praise WMDC...

| Dont think its Leeds council thats opposing it its just some Councilors having to reprisent there constituants. The bad thing for Wakey is this could take it to central goverment for planning and that process could hold you up. Hope it doesnt happen that way as the district deserves all the facilities we can get to help all the talent coming throu our clubs .
Fingers crossed for you guys

Its not a winky measuring contest crowt, still does not alter the fact that large areas of Leeds are borderline slums mate, the point is why get involved in another councils business when they have plenty of problems on the doorstep.
Its all very well having tall expensive "flashy" buildings but when you drive past them and into the shadows you see the real Leeds, no better or worse than any other city i suppose and that includes Wakey.

Seacroft, Halton Moor, Harehills, Belle Isle, Clyde Court, Gipton I could go on and on and on...get my drift?
Here’s a short transcript taken from a 2003 article about life on a Leeds Estate,
Quote [iA five-year-old boy in a ripped coat and dirty trousers hammered on the front door of his council estate flat at 11pm last Wednesday. 'Come on, you smackheads,' he shouted to his parents inside. 'I know what you're doing.'
By the boy's feet sat a plastic bag with bread and milk. The only shop open at that time is on the opposite side of a busy motorway, a 15-minute walk away. According to neighbours, it is a journey the child regularly makes on his own.
'Unless someone rescues that wee kiddie and gives him a second chance, he's doomed,' said Jean, who has lived on the Clyde Court housing estate in Leeds for 17 years. She is too scared of her neighbours to give her full name.
On an estate where deprivation and violence are commonplace, the boy's bleak, hopeless life is the norm and, if he takes his ambitions from those around him, his life chances are near to zero
At the heart of almost every thriving city in Britain lies a second city, hidden from visitors' eyes, where, as Jean sadly says of Clyde Court: 'Decent, proud and law-abiding residents are kept prisoners in their own homes through fear of the gangs that rule the streets.'[/i'"

We all have problems and every city has good and bad areas but in some cities the bad is REALLY BAD unfortunately Leeds is one of those cities.
As Al said, Leeds councilors should stop grand standing and headline hunting and start doing something about the difficult problems that exist in Leeds.

snippet from that piece
'The Thatcher government took our working-class life away from us but they didn't replace it with anything,' said Wilson. 'The reason our children have fewer life opportunities isn't because they can't go to university, it's because they can't go to work.'
this typifies about today's society a case look after ones self and don't give a jack about your neighbour or friends,
I wonder how much of this could be related to attendances of our game, a once thriving sport is now struggling to get anywhere as good as there did years ago, welfare's and working mens clubs don't have the same atmosphere as they did years ago, I expect due to large industries being closed and friends and work colleagues moving on to pastures new, and its the where it originated from the working class
while Leeds are border line to the development I can't see how they can have any sway on this as its separated by the motorway so traffic shouldn't be a problem, as for the distribution units its in a prime situation and will serve both Wakefield and Leeds with jobs which are needed greatly

Once the decision is made, I guess it'll be called in, so we will be thrown out of SL before the decision is made on our 10 year too late app

Maybe so but if Flanshaw is a slum then what is Tingley estate?! And what have you got really? Morley sports centre?
Wakefield sporting facilities are a complete disgrace and those who have presided over it should be shot under the White/Lewis one strike and you're out rule

And no-one denies that the lack of a proper swimming pool in the City itself is a disgrace....however, Thornes Park is a good facility, Lightwaves has its uses so it could be worse! Where's the Olympic size pool in the centre of Leeds? Or did they knock that facility down and not, erm, rebuild it?

| On what grounds have LCC got complaints? The location of the development is not even within their authoritive boundaries so they should keep their snooping no well away from our business.
