| Quote ="newwildcat"Glad the whole matter is finally sorted. Sorry to see him go, but given the circumstances it was the right decision. I think Obst has done a great job at SH when he has played there, although I think we might miss DB's kicking game and =#FF0000genuine pace as I don't believe we have anyone who can go the length of the field as he did on a semi-regular basis. On the positive side it might actually bring the team closer together and the addition of Cooke will give us more kicking options, and by the sound of it we got a great deal for a player who would have walked away for nothing in a few months time.'"
BJ's not bad with daylight in front of him, Blanch can go the full length and Murphy has shown a fair bit of pace already this season.

| Glad the whole matter is sorted in effect we've got korky on our books now with hudds still paying some of his wages, Kirmond ive admired since he was on the wing vs fev and adds abit of size up top.
I do know danny wasn't the most liked person in the dressing room and that we have to move on quickly which is a real possibility with the form of obst and cooke and the targets we have for next year. However the assumption that we will not miss brough is frankly ludicrous imo, as brown himself finding a natural scrum half with pace and the best kicking game in the league is hard to come by, over recent seasons there has been no moaning about kicks on the 5 going into full backs hands. Alot of the time the opposistion have started making progress up the field from there own 20 making it easier for us to defend, his goal line drop outs reach 60metres.
How many try's have we scored from his kicks indeed how many try's has millard alone in 7games scored from his kicks....Gone where the days where when we scored a try on touchline it was more or less guaranteed to be a 4 pointer, with danny 90% of the time it was converted to 6 like it or not that won us games, cooke hasn't kicked for a while obst has done well so far, morrison hasn't kicked for yonks, and jeffries is ok. Anyone remember brough's kick vs bradford at murrayfield that lad has got us outta the brown stuff so many times.
Catnap well done on the motivational speach but he's a loss, I understand we were never likely to keep him and therefore in the long term how can he be construed as a loss, but imo losing the best kicker in SL will affect your team. AND NO ONE'S GONNA CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.
Best of luck danny, you have significantly helped us in reaching the top part of the league and playoff's semi finals, a player of your ability deserves trophies unfortunately that couldn't be with us. Hope you do well at the giants (kill me now) apart from when you play us.

I assume you attended on Sunday so tell me how many of either Sam's or Cookes kicks were caught on the full by the Salford defence, tell me that Brough could have put a better kick in than Sam did for Blanch's try, or the ones that made Salford drop out and then tell me that the squad has lost something for not having DB slating players for not only their mistakes but his own as well!
He's gone and we're better for it, live with it, christ anyone would think you're his love child after reading that post

| Some folk on here think you aren't allowed to be disappointed with this affair ... I still am..
Sam Obsts performance against Salford doesn't make me think we won't miss Brough. Sam did well however - consistency and quality of distribution (from hand and boot) is what Sam desperately needs to work on IMO.. to many bad passes and too much indecision sets them apart for me over the course of 2+ years i have come to that verdict!
The reality is Brough will leave a hole ...................... Sam isn't the same player and doesn't have the same qualities Brough has... however he brings different ones....... Sam, Cookey and BJ will now have to get together, fill the gap and take us forward....

Yes I did go.
Am I his love child? NO
Do i realise what he brought to the team? Yes
I do not do the typical wakefield fan trait which is to rubbish the player that's just left.
None of sam or paul's kicks where caught by the fullback, did i say they was? That's only 1 game.
Yes brough could have made the same kicks to make salford drop.
He has gone, in time we'll be better for it with cooke and sam learning the roles required to play in that position rather than one game against the poorest side ive seen at belle vue in years.
I don't want to go into a slanging match with who's the better 7.
I just can't see how we won't be affected at all by losing him, he had his bad traits without a doubt he did go missing on occasions he does slate his own team mates at times which is of course wrong and may affect morale. Like it or not he is/was one of the best 7's in the league.

| Good posts from both Catnap and mwildcats but for me the truth lies somewhere between the two. Short term I think it will be a bit of a loss. Because of the position he played and the skills he has then a lot of moves, especiallly in attack, involved him as a main element. It will take a bit of time to adjust - but adjust we will. With Cooke I think that the adjustment time will be fairly short and we could end up better off. We'll miss Danny chasing back in defence and some of the tackles he put in, but not the penalties he gave away when he gets fired up. I'm not unhappy with the deal but really prefer full signings rather than loans - but the loans may disguise who's paying the wages.
The main point is - CAN WE GET ON WITH LIFE NOW! There's been more posts about this than the fact we're still sixth and keeping in with the leading group. There's a gap opening up in the middle of the table and we're above it. By my reckoning we'll still be sixth no matter what happens on Friday so let's look to the future positively - oh forgot that's not allowed on here!!!

| I'm sorry to see him go and think the turn around of the club's competitive edge of the last few years has been influenced by the presence of DB and the great one (J Kear). His kicking game alone was worth maybe one or two tries a game, especially against bigger clubs. I also loved his consistent effort to get an interception try in every single game in the last 6 months. His kick conversion rate was also highly consistent and proven such as against Harlequins last season.
On the down side he was sometimes found lacking in defence (but when he tried he was a major asset here). Rumours often circulated as to whether he was a disruptive influence in the squad or not. I also did not appreciate the way he scalded Morton at Hull KR when in my view he was at fault with a poor pass. That behaviour was not leadership.
I'm delighted that we've kept Korki although surprised it was up for negotiation so soon. Kirkmond, I know too little about so will give him a fair viewing before passing judgement. Cash is also welcome, use it wisely.
Cooke, has been disruptive according to Hull and KR fans I talk with (I live on the outskirts of Hull). His reputation off the field allegedly is questionable. I hope that he stays focused and resurrects his career and enjoys the responsibility that goes with it.
I was apprehensive when BJ came back but have been delighted with his performances so far, certainly foot in mouth time for me. (When is he back from injury?). When he was first with us I was far from a fan and found him too predictable and not a leader on the field. Since his return, he has not been the primary playmaker who the team look to (like he was previously) and I think he is revelling in his game because of it. As long as he plays off someone and does not feel the pressure to perform I am confident JK can get the best out of him.
Last season we often looked to Brough to do some magic to turn the game our way, which he often did. Today I think we have more leaders and creators on the pitch and the team is stronger for it. Morrison is an inspiration to all, BJ finds opportunities unlike before, Obst is a tiger (not of the Cas kind). Admittedly so far I have been disappointed with Millard, he rarely gets or passes the ball. At Quins on the first game of the season he gave us a taster of what he can do and nothing from what I can tell since (although I can't make every game). I hope he will now flourish in a team of equals.
Thanks for everything Danny, we appreciate everything you did for us and wish you well. I look forward to a bright future under JK.

| Goodbye Danny and all the best with Huddersfield.
Will I miss you? No. For me you have always dictated by how many points we won a game, never (oh go on, then once v Leeds this season) won a game for us. I hope you find it easier to build positive on-field relationships with your new colleagues than you have at Wakefield.

| Huddersfield have got themselves a very, very good player, one who is much underrated by opposition supporters. It’s only when you watch him regularly you see what influence he has over a team in defence and attack.
The only issue is his much publicised temperament. He is a volatile character and is prone to moods which can inhibit the team, yet this makes him tick as a player. Lose that then you lose the competitive streak in him.
His kicking game is often cited but he also has an excellent long passing game and reads the game very well. How many times he has intercepted a pass and had the legs to finish it off?
Keep him on the straight and narrow and Huddersfield can be real challengers for the GF
If Korkidas keeps up his game, as he has done since his return, then I’m happy with that. I would’ve preferred to see Kirmond move on a permanent basis but understand that he is a player Huddersfield do not want to lose. I’m assuming Huddersfield are contributing a large proportion of the wages of these two players as compensation for Brough (I heard a rumour that they don’t pay any transfer fee’s after all) which should see the club a little better off in the short term.
As to whether Broughs departure will hinder the team, well all will be revealed in time. Friday will be the first opportunity this season to see how the team cope against quality opposition minus Brough. Cooke and Obst should prove able replacements, each providing varying skills in which to attack Wire. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how things pan out.

| Part of me is utterly gutted that we've lost Brough, I've always liked him as a player and he put on some stunning displays for Trin.
But, part of me is not too fussed. Broughy can be a bit inconsistent and struck me as a bit of a moody character. Plus, you look at Obst's performances this season and have to question how much we are actually missing. Cookie's an awesome player as well, who, in a couple of weeks, should have found his feet and be playing the sort of rugby we remember him playing.
Out of the Brough deal we got Korki all to ourselves, we got Kirmond till the end of the season and a wodge of Hudds' Wembley money, which we've used on Cookie and Gledhill. Hudds for me may have shot themselves in the foot. Brown and Robinson are on fire at the moment and have been the centre of the squad for a while now. How is Brough going to fit in there. Also, Hudds have Drew. For me Wakey's biggest downfall over the past couple of seasons was the fact that Drew and Brough really did not seem to get on, which, I would say, cost us matches. The Hudds have Grix as well. Potentially, as well as a lot of quality halves, they also have a lot egos to deal with their. Then again the coaching staff might be able to deal with this. It'll be interesting to see anyroad.
All in all, gutted he's gone, but we're still strong and Hudds could have issues, so not all bad.

| Broughy will certainly be missed, a top 5 S.H in S.L, and especially by the young kids who come to B.V. The number of times, when asked, ‘Who’s your favourite player’ 90% of the time the answer is D.B. But when you’ve seen ‘em come & seen ‘em go, it’s put into perspective.
It’s a shame the lad’s (allegedly) got himself into a spot of financial bother, I think he really liked working with J.K. Not sure how he will go at Hudds, he doesn’t seem to gel with Aussie coaches too well.
Thanks for your contribution D.B, the try against Leeds will be my best memory of him in the R.W & B, thanks also for just missing that 40/20 while playing for Cas in the relegation decider – priceless.

| Sad to see him go as he is a great player and played very well for us.
However I think we have done really well out of this and the BOD should be congratulated. He was going for free at the end of the season. Instead we have got Korki secured for next year, a talented loan deal and money.
Whilst he is a great player and can single handidly turn/win games I think we will be fine without him and perhaps even better if the rumours that hes not a good dressing room player are to be believed. The whole team is always greater than the sum of the parts in sport.
Good work.

Catnap well done on the motivational speach but he's a loss, I understand we were never likely to keep him and therefore in the long term how can he be construed as a loss, but imo losing the best kicker in SL will affect your team. AND NO ONE'S GONNA CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.
...'"
Danny Brough does NOT have a conversion rate of 90%. This season's stats show as follows.
Tickle 23/24 95.8%
Witt 19/23 82.6%
Dobson 18/22 81.8%
Eastmond 31/39 79.5%
Brough 18/23 78.3%

And as for kicking in live play, I would certainly rate Witt, Dobson, Eastmond higher than Brough - and that doesn't even include those that don't regulary kick for goal for their club or those currently injured such as Sinfield who is widely regarded one of the top kickers in the country.
Let's not get over-excited with our praise for the man - he is a fairly good kicker, but he isn't the best and he certainly not the worst. Rooney was a fairly good kicker a lot of the time too when he was here, but he certainly wasn't the best or worst either.
