About wakefield ccg
Wakefield CCG was formed by residents on Newmarket Lane Stanley Wakefield, In order to voice our opposition to proposals to develop the Silkstone Colliery site off Newmarket Lane into a 12,000 seat stadium.
The reasons we are so vehemently opposed to such a proposal is due to the site being in the Green belt and one of the few areas of open grassland left in the area.
Silkstone Colliery was worked for over 100 years and was finally closed in 1982. In 1997 a proposal was put forward to reclaim coal from the slag heaps on the site and then to fill the land, in order to provide an open grassland planted with trees and heather for recreational use. Work commenced on this scheme and took over 4 years to complete. Local residents put up with upto 80 Tipper trucks a day in the knowledge that the disruption was worth it in order to gain a valuable amenity. At the end of the scheme hundreds of tress where planted and bridleways put in place.
Yorkcourt property developers are now proposing to build a stadium on the site. Wakefield council are supporting this proposal by donating land. This is despite the fact that development on this site has not been part of any strategic planning for Wakefield council contradicts Wakefield councils goals for future development and is in the Greenbelt.
We believe that this proposal is an oppourntunistic attempt to exploit the failure of Wakefield Council to build a stadium on the Thornes Park site and the pressing need for Wakefield Wilcats to find a new home in order to protect there Super League franchise.
WCCG’s aim is to stop development in the Greenbelt and to ensure promises that where given at the time of the sites reclammation are adhered to

| Quote ="Catwoman1"Being a resident of Stanley myself I went [u'trespassing'[/u on the the relevant piece of land when it was announced that the stadium was to be there.
It is not a landscaped, parkland, grassy field sort of area in any shape or form - it is rough, waste land which is very difficult to walk over. There are no views at all of this vast area from Newmarket Lane so nothing will change regarding views for residents there and I understand all the new buildings will be low so again will not be eyesores.
The letter in the Express last week talked about losing farmland ... there is most definitely no farmland on the site. There is a 'market garden farm' next to the land where the stadium is going (on the corner of Aberford Road/Newmarket Lane) which belongs to relatives of mine and I am not aware that they have any problems with the plan.
When anything is built anywhere someone will be unhappy - but I cannot think it would be possible to find any site that could be developed in such a way and affect so few people.'"
Something they seem to forget that its against the law and to add to that i saw a crisp packet blowing around down ther the other day

| And the land is owned by Yorkcourt not the Council. At the entrance to said area there has been a large notice for a long time saying 'Trespassers will be Prosecuted' ... so not much of an amenity for anyone!

I wonder what the response to that will be.
We will probably have to wait while the poster returns home after his shift of protecting the red tailed crested doormouse that lives between the Half Moon and the wobblies.

| Just had a look at the video & must appluad it for a great piece of comedy.
I don't think any of us will disagree that BV is not in a great location for people who are driving there, but as for the parking on the streets it's something that we are all allowed to do if there are no restrictions.
I have no doubt that a very small minority of fans (of either side playing) might drop some litter in the area around the ground, but having walked through Agbrigg many times to & from the match (with the walk to the match usually in time for the Academy game if there's been one on before the first team game) I can honestly say that the amount of litter is not noticably different after the match than it has been 2 or 3 hours before kick off.
It's clear that WCCG is simply not interested in the issue of conservation in the Wakefield area as they are doing nothing to update their site - in addition to the propaganda video there's only 1 "news" item and that's from the brginning of September.
Until they can demonstrate some interest in the community of Wakefield they should rename themselves as the Newmarket Lane CCG rather than using the Wakefield name in vane to give the impression of representing the views of the city.
NIMBY's

| Welcome to the rugby league fans community,
As TRB as already stated there is no stadium without the industrial development and therefore any sentiment you express regarding the stadium is meaningless whilst ever you are opposing the wider development.
I live and always have lived just a third of a mile from junction 40 of the M1 an area which has been extensively developed over the last 15 years. To add to that development there has also been the construction of a major supermarket, a Hotel, a massive gymnasium and the development continues. All this on Dewsbury Road one of the main arterial roads into Wakefield city centre and one of only two main roads that lead to my home. When these developments were in the planning there was a lot of fear about how it would affect the environment around where we lived, access to our homes, danger to our children and so on and so on.
When I look back and think about some of those fears, if I am totally honest, virtually non-have been realised to the extent that we thought they would. In many ways these developments have breathed new life into the area, many of the local shops do much greater business, many of the local people have found employment in these new developments, much of the area is now cleaner, tidier and is maintained more often.
Now I'm not naive enough to believe that every development in every area will have the same positive or negative impact but when I compare junction 40 with the proposed development of a distribution centre at Newmarket Lane, with traffic entering and leaving the motorway without troubling the residential area, I just can't see it having anywhere near the negative impact you envisage.
As for greenbelt land around Wakefield, there is plenty. You should head up towards Bretton, Hall Green, Denby Dale, not to mention the various nature reserves, Nostell even Stanley has lots of greenbelt land surrounding it beyond the Newmarket Lane area (take a look at Newmarket Lane on Google maps, you'll struggle to find areas of development between swathes of greenbelt land).
You ask us to realise that there is a bigger picture yet it seems you have closed your mind to the positives and the benefits that this development will bring!

lol spot on. I bet half of those people interviewed who passed comment on the parking don't even own a car.
We should make one showing "the reality of living near a rugby stadium" with all the fans leaving and handing out chocolates and flowers to the local residents - it'd be a bit more credible than theirs at least.

Point of order. You cannot be prosecuted for Trespass as it is not a Criminal Offence it is a civil offence for which I believe you would have to be sued.

| an intresting point the parking issue....................................now correct me if im wrong but we have had a radical idea on this one if i view the plans correctly, we are having a car park!
so people may "park" their cars!
makes me laugh because i know for a fact one of the rield owners nearby is already talking about charging to park in his field on match days!!!

| Lots of Green belt in Wakey - It says on the council's own radio advert that 70% of WMDC is rural.
It's a real shame that this great site at Newmarket is going to be lost to a multi million pound area that will bring entertainment and industry to Wakefield. I rember those great days when I was able to take the wife and kids down to the lovely landscaped area, with nature walks, rare animals to be seen whilst taking a picnic to enjoy the scenery. It made such an action packed day out. Oh sorry Ive just realised I muddled it up with somewhere else that isn't a complete tip. Sorry for the mistake

| I personally think this is a genuinely honest post.
The only way forward with this development is through debate with "all" conserned, I have seen the plans and it is a truly huge development, especially for those who are going to be living amongst it. I strongly believe that the plans are as sympathetic to those residing at Newmarket, but non the less it is going to be a massive change from what is a semi rural backwater (no offence) to a busy industrial, area.
The fact remains however that what is one day a beautiful view out of your living room window, unless you own the land, not always going to be so.
I remember numerous areas around Wakefield that were once undeveloped land and people had unspoilt views from there homes, that are now thriving industrial areas bringing business and employment to thousands of local people, the 41 estate, paragon, junction 32, silkwood park, normanton ind est, Calder island the list is very long, and very important to the area.
I have genuine sympathy for the residents, I would not wish for my house to be in the middle of such a development and neither would anyone else on this forum, so we are all nimbys, and don't let anyone tell you they aren't!!!
What is needed in this situation is debate, and I welcome the views of all, sympatheticly and honestly.

| The video makes a valid point, that having a rugby stadium in the middle of a densely-occupied neighbourhood causes problems, particularly with on-street parking. I have a solution, however: build it in a field, away from densely-occupied neighbourhoods, with around 800 dedicated parking spaces.
There we go, job done. Now then, if stanleyman is reading this, I know of a site by the motorway, the site of an old colliery, that would answer all the woes expressed by the residents of Agbrigg.
Hope this helps

Debate is already taking place.
They are attacking the propositions we are defending the propositions.
Judging by the website of these people, there is little honesty in the opening post made by Stanleyman,it is littered with contradictions of what these people believe.
Eg. He would happy for the stadium in isolation to be built --- yet there website has a video attempting to show exactly why you wouldnt want a stadium built next to you.
