Spooky my birthday today after opening my socks, soap on a rope and brut i asked the current Mrs Fred Gee when was I getting my 1983 adiads Wakey shirt...she just looked at me I could have been talking a foreign language !!!


I was not aware of the collar but definately the adidas badge and Trinity badge were in blue so can not seeing it being genuine...get it DNA'd i touched it as i helped carry him off at Thrum Hall in his last game.

I heard some story that someone went into the Wakey Express office at around the time Lewis was at Wakefield and asked for some pictures, and he was given all of them, plus the negatives, or something along those lines. Hence pictures being thin on the ground.

I emailed the seller, because of the debate about the collar, and she said her father got it from a bona fide rugby auction hosted by an ex-Dewsbury player, and he wouldn't have paid £100 for it back then if he wasn't sure.

I have been sent tonight a picture of Wally Lewis at his press release, shaking hands with Eric Ingham, the usual publicity stuff, and his collar is a v-neck in that picture.

So is it Wally's shirt? Could well be, and sounds most likely. Is it match-worn? A matter of debate.

She did say the red in the badge and on the shirt had faded due to being washed a few times, but that will make it look more match-worn in the frame.

the thought ran through my mind when the Dreadnoughts book came up should I say something or keep quite, decided to say nowt and hope for the best hoping that others wouldn't see it won by a couple of quid,

the collar is an issue... also Wally only wore the 6 shirt 9 times... Nigel Stephenson also wore it... not sure that the Kelly kid didnt wear it a couple of times during the season... I would need the shirt to be signed or a letter of authenticity... then the sky would be the limit!!!


I used to have the match video of his debut at belle vue... wish I had that on dvd!!!
