Pointless thread - lock it!






To say I'm a bit surprised by this thread is an understatement, but I can see why, under the circumstances, Al is extremely cheesed off with what he's had to deal with.

There seems to be the belief amongst certain people that mods lock threads for fun, or because they personally can't be bothered with them any more. This is not the case.

Threads are locked either because the topic for discussion is not one that is allowed to be discussed in the public domain, or because a topic has run its course, and the "new topic" that has appeared as a result is best discussed on a separate thread (where people wishing to contribute to the topic can clearly see what it's supposed to be about), or because, after numerous attempts at editing offensive/troll posts and posting warnings without the desired effect, the moderator has called time on the topic in an attempt to keep the board a place where everyone feels welcome to post their opinion.

We can't guarantee that this will always be the case, I'm afraid, because none of us are available round the clock and have other commitments, work, family, etc. to attend to. Given that this is a voluntary undertaking on our part, with no perks and plenty of abuse to boot, to expect anything else is unrealistic.

Threads are locked, and a reason is normally given as to why. I've tried to list the main reasons above. Sometimes, it's simply a question of judgement at a particular moment - we don't know all the facts behind certain issues, and have to decide what's best in terms of the site and the wishes of the site owners there and then. I'd also like to point out that threads have also been re-opened when new information has come to light, allowing us all to have our 2 cents worth when an issue can be considered "safe".

The final point: The moderators of this board are here to ensure that posts comply with the wishes of the site owners, the people who's butts are directly on the line if someone takes excpection to anything that is posted on this site. It's easy to say "who the hell will sue you for this" when you're not the person who carries the risk, but the fact is that the site owners have had action taken against them in the past, and don't want to experience the same again. This site isn't owned by Google, doesn't have the resources to constantly fight legal action, and is provided as a free facility for rugby league fans to chat, discuss rugby league, exchange opinions, and even, God forbid, meet up with other like-minded people and become pals (you are, of course, all welcome to donate the the running and improvement of the site if you so wish).

Apologies if this all seems a bit long-winded. It's just an attempt, in a very ed-off state, to be fair.

Seems to be a thread where everyone says how wonderful they are.... I am sure thats not why it was made is it?

I haven't got a problem with them, I couldn't give a toss about what they do... personally I would like them to lock more threads especially when they turn into ones full of people trying to be funny... no offence.. with a complulsory smiley

Yes. Jokes about lightbulbs and medium shirts really are not funny, especially when they derail threads.

If you are getting rid of some of your Mods i would be happy to offer them a job on C & G where we could do with a bit more proactive modding.

Wont be paying a transfer fee for them though

I will hold my hand up to trying to take the banter a little further and have a bit of fun at the same time, you can take life too serious sometimes and I try to laugh some of it off on here, it breaks the monotonous of reading through the crap that we endure on here from posters that don't even have anything to do with the club as support, that is what is grinding our mods down

Typical, leak a story of admiration of a 'player' through the media to unsettle them, refuse to pay a transfer fee and then let the incumbent release them as..
"an unsettled mod is not an effective mod"

Slightly strange thread.

I had a little dig at the moderation yesterday, couldn't understand why the Scully/Brough thread was locked. Yes it had moved away from the original subject but it was creating good debate with no personal abuse just people putting their opinions across. To then see other threads descend into name calling and the same old stuff time and time again makes it all the stranger.

At the end of the day though it's an internet forum and maybe we shouldn't take it so seriously!

I will only vote to keep you all if you grow a beard and join in with the lads

No complaints about any of the mods, a thankless, and presumably time-consuming task. Perhaps I`m being dim but- how do I vote to keep them all? e.g. if I select TRB am I voting to keep or replace him? I`d like to see an option that says "keep `em all". I don`t honestly think any vote will be representative however, if all Hull KR`s 250k fans vote the same way things could become slightly skewed.

Can we have some photographs to help us make up our minds.

I agree with that ... however the Mods on this board overall do a great
job and they should all stay, its obviously a difficult and thankless job they do so cut 'em some slack chaps!

Whatever the moderators do, they will be wrong in someones eyes.

It's a thankless job and for everyone who wants a thread closed, another will think it is a stupid thing to do.

I used to moderate on the old board on the club site and we didn't close half the number of normal threads as get closed on here but we still got abuse from faceless people who thought they were right.

Respect the mods - most of us only see the front of the message board - they do a lot in the background to keep the messagbe board safe, legal & availalbe for us to express our opinions within the rules of the message board owners & the laws of the land.
