| Wouldn't sacrifice any player at present. Not even Hendo!
Keep Halley on loan as long as possible with a view to adding him to the squad at the end of the season if required. Don't think he's in Bradford's plans so no pressure on us to tip up.

| Quote ="Uptoncat"Because he's one of the most talented players in our squad. Rooneys missed a fair few games through injury in his time with us but no one has a go at him. If Latu comes back playing for us like he was for Tonga in the world cup then he's going to be a massive bonus and cause some real problems for the opposition. OK Latus done wrong in the past but he's been punished whether it be off field (community service etc) or on field (suspensions). He's done the crimes and he's also served his time so to speak, give the bloke a break and let him win us a few games, he has that spark and magic in his game, he may be a little erratic at times but he can genuinely turn a game on its head single handedly. A Drew/Latu interchange at hooker would really keep the opposition on their feet and for me its a mouth watering prospect.'"
Don't disagree but "what price talent" if he's not injured he's banned, Jamies had quite a bit of stick on here lately.
If and when that happens i'll give him a break but i won't hold my breath waiting, IMO he's having our pants down.

| Quote ="BelleVueLifer"lets not forget that whilst hally is doing a fantastic job for us, he is only here on a temp basis untill petersen is match fit again - we havnt bought an winger half way around the world to run him out with the reserves every week - there is too much money invested in petersen.
and besides, if we signed halley in a swap deal bradford would want someone with proven ability....petersen - we wouldnt let go. drew - we wouldnt let go - blanch - we wouldnt let go.....so that for me is where the deal would come undone.
i dont see it happening.
i think we should accept that hally wont be joining us on a permanent basis and we all should remember the great job he's done for us.'"
that would be a better deal petersen for halley i would be happy with that

That is really unfair. At leeds last year he was asked to play in the forwards because he knows no different he tackled like he was 16 stone plus ran the sam against the big guns, giving the team everything hes got. He injured is arm doing that, people like you ridicule him for it. Not fair at all. The lad gives everything for Trin when he plays far better player than rooney.

You could say the same of Rooney, to be fair.
FWIW, I wouldn't exchange any player we currently have for Dave "The Comet" Halley. Not because I don't think he's a good player, but because I don't think we need so much cover on the wing. That said, I'd be more than happy if we signed him on regular terms without weakening the squad further with a swap deal.

Yes you could but Latu comes back from injury picks up a ban and then gets injured again, i don't have a problem with the injuries thats part and parcel of the game and he has put himself around on the pitch. Just do see any VALUE for money with the guy during the time he's been at our club, and i am not fooled by a silly side step.
I really wish it was different.

However its still worth waiting on him to see if he can string some games together, his performance at the world cup displayed what a quality player he is. Rooney, on the other hand has also barely played over the last two seasons but believe that his best playing days are behind him.
To be fair though everyone looks like they are stealing a living when they are on the sidelines, the same could be said for Sculthorpe and Peterson among others.
And Peterson is an isse in the thinking behind Halley, is he going to play, and who will be the other winger? If Blanch leaves then we have Peterson and George Halley would have to be an option, however if he stays we still have our first choice wingers plus Halley as back up, plus, Tony Martin leaves and George is the cover back centre/wing for a development season (ie will probably play every game) with Gleeson becoming first choice centre, then we would still need another winger. Long story short, try and get him on loan for as long as possible then sign him off contract at the end of the year.

there are a lot of unknowns about what players are likely to do next year and there is nearly a full season for players to get injured, lose form etc etc.
i like the look of halley so far, it's nice to have a winger with pace as well as having a semblance of a rugby brain (unlike white). think he looks a bit dodgy under the high ball when being challenged by big lads but so far so good in the main and i agree that come the end of the season things may change to such an extent we could really do with keeping him

We still have Aaron Murphy as a back-up winger, don't we? And Rooney has played on the wing as a stop gap too.
There'll be a few tough decisions to make for next season with players reaching the end of their contracts / sell-by date.

| I'll put it this way(especially for Bigal )
If and it's a big if we can get half a season out of Latu with the form he showed in the WC he will be worth every penny we have paid him. You could say Drew is doing the same this year after a fairly indifferent 2008.
Who knows, but we have potentially a very good player in Latu and he's going nowhere so we might as well hope for the best.

I couldn't agree more, I keep banging on about it but wingers are not as important as people make out IMHO. Sure a good specialist winger is a real asset but let's not kid ourselves it's a position most backs can handle if required. Grix and Gleeson can also cover the wings with reasonable ease as could young Potts at a pinch. I think Halley is excellent but I wouldn't dilute other positions to keep him or break the bank to buy/pay him.
Sad really because if Halley was a good a prop as he is winger I'd bite Bradfords hand off.

| Id swap Rooney for him right now. Both have similar times left on there contracts and i am lead to believe JR is one of our top earners.
The money you would save on Jamies contract could quite easily cover DH salary and give JK a bit left over to go shopping for another forward.
A few players normally become available in the next few weeks when they realise they are not going to get the game time they think they deserve and clubs need to free up space as they need players in other positions ie like when we signed Adam (rip)
Think a few on here should give Peterson a break. He has hardly had any games where he has been fully match fit but i expect him to be more than a handfull for the opposition when 100%
And Latu going anywhere should be a non stater.
On another point does TLL contract run out at the end of the season? If so and we offer him a new one (hopefully) does he have to apply for a new visa??

Thats fair enough, i would be happy to see Latu back in the team, i just have doubts on him thats all, i agree the same could be said for others and for some reason "it seems that some on here think i won't say anything wrong about Jamie because of the work done to help Brennan" but thats not the case and i am also dissapointed with his form.
Simple terms, value for money and i just don't see it in Latu.
