To all those saying that it's not as bad as a normal year (flu etc) ONS says there are usually 10000 deaths per week, the week ending 3rd of April there were 16000 deaths in that week

is there a way the season over there can go to December?

I don't think judging by news reports its going to start anytime soon

He was very good mates with a lad that I used to work with, who played up at Eastmoor and we'd regularly bump into one another in town on a Friday night - a few years ago mind.

Wakefield have a lot of involvement with the Dragons over the years which makes it even more sad, I’ve always been made welcome when I’ve attended games representing Wakey, a good bunch of folk doing a great job. RIP Dave.

Very sad, brings it home.

I’m beginning to ask myself “what’s the point” of self isolation. social distancing, and losing family and friends, when the government are allowing 15000, yes, fifteen thousand people a day flying into the UK, without any medical checks, allowing these people from all over the world to mix with the U.K. population. I’ve been quite supporting of most things the government has done up to now, but this news, just baffles me, I’ve lost a lot of faith in our leaders, I think they have just made the biggest mistake so far. Can anyone explain the logic of why all theses people are allowed into the Uk, without medical checkups.

I think I'm right in believing DS, that they have to self isolate for 2 weeks immediately on arrival.

That’s a possibility, but how many people do they come into contact with until they reach their point of isolation. Airport staff, Public transport, taxi, lifts from family, friends.etc, the infection rate would quickly accelerate.

But the reason some are still coming in is to repatriate British people stranded abroad.
It's not hard to take someone's temperature which is the first check.
My friend who came in on a plane a couple of weeks ago said they were checked twice before making it to the terminal, and then told to self isolate.

Do you read the Daily Mail? Not a snipe but its performance in peddling these fake news stories has bee appalling even by their standards.

One enquiry I would like to see when this is over is a genuine look at the role of the press, all of them not just the mail.

I'm not trying to shackle the press but on issues of public safety, I believe they should be compelled to name sources and provide links, not just to those who support the story but also those who don't.

The press should have been investigated after the general election, however any such type of investigation would prove pointles.

A quick google for Heathrow shows two flights in from New York this morning and flights from Madrid, Rome and Paris, these are regular flights, I can’t honestly see these all being repatriation flights. Plus people talk of being told to self isolate, can’t see everyone adhering to that.

Fair comment, but bear in mind we cant get some bell ends to just to social distance who have been in the UK since lockdown.

Very true. I know it would be costly but why not forcibly isolate them, straight into a hotel on site for two weeks. These are extraordinary times, this government needs to be tougher, if you don’t want imposed isolation then don’t fly, simple.

The General Election/Brexit and a Pandemic are not the same things, one is a choice the other isn't, give it a rest.
