First of all I am a person not a thing. I don't dispute he has been a good player for us but in my personal opinion he his not the messiah everyone believes. I am not bitter at all we went down exactly the opposite as it gives us chance to re group on the field.if you check back you will also see I praised mc and jm when the majority on here could not see for their blinkers the foundations they laid plus thought it would be good idea for jm to oversee img but I know think me has that covered. So from past experience I can see the advantages of going back to go forward as we are doing now which of course is helped by someone with more money and resources. Re dave he liked to be the big fish in a small pond and always wondered why if he was that great then why did the top four not spend th4 money on him. I won't buy the loyalty thing either as money always talks. Good player yes , crowd pleaser yes , gentlemen yes , value for money, think could have spent more wisely.

Caleb deserves people to comment on his signing without being derailed about Fifita.
And Dave deserves people being able to counter Trin's point if they want.

What I liked most about Fifita wasn’t his bullocking runs or the way he could get the crowd on the edge of their seats , but for me his loyalty was beyond doubt his greatest asset imo . It only emerged near the end of his time with us just how many clubs had courted him with I suspect with far better offers than we could muster at the time ,yet stayed loyal to the end ,and even came back to lead the charge in the face of relegation . In this day and age and the mercenary dealings in sport , that says to me a lot about the guy he was . He could have definitely gone back home wealthier monetary wise if he’d have taken the kings ransom, but credit to him he stuck with us and put aside any hopes or aspirations of silverware that he may have had to stay loyal to the end , and for that I take my hat off to the big man .

I got told this morning that it was Dave and his brother Andrew that put us in touch with Uele and they are doing a bit of un-official scouting for us down-under

Agree. there's a YouTube channel that most will know that has that agent Craig Harrison on it, who was Big Dave's agent as well. He brought it up on there and in a roundabout way said what you just said. I'd be surprised if he's out and out scouting for us but I bet if he sees some bopper downunder that he thinks will do a job up here, I bet he'll get on the blower to DP to let him know, and then for him to have a look for himself. He may be our man on the ground down under, as much as you can have one in SL or the championships.

I could be wrong but doesn’t Andrew Fifita have some sort of coaching role now at the sharks. Him and david putting players our way.

Fifita certainly did show some loyalty to the club.

On the playing front he was good for us, but I think he was at his peak in 2016,17 & 18,but I think after his injury, he was never quite the same player. I also look back to who the other props were too, and in those early years we had the likes of England, Arona and Huby who were always making an impact. You look in those sides of 2019 onwards and the other forwards made nowhere the same impact.

Some tbough are quick to forget the tracker incident.

He had good and bad.

Clearly David had a number of issues whilst at the club, a court case with his wife I recall, him and his brothers support for a so called one punch killer and so on. it's all on Google. What we need to remember is these lads are in their twenties for the most part, and we all did things at that age that we either regret, or would approach differently now. I don't think David was especially susceptible to such things, probably more that by Trinity standards he was fairly high profile.

There is a certain amount of mystery around the tracker incident, I've heard more than one account, but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it made a massive difference to what David achieved at the club.

Slightly off topic and FWIW, and as a bit of fun, this is how I rate 'legends'. I think there are three kinds of legends, and this applies to most clubs.

True legends - Players like Neil Fox, Rocky Turner, David Topliss. Players whose abilities and achievements cannot be argued with. Not just by Trinity fans, but fans of the game.

Club legends - These are players that mean far more to Trinity fans than the wider game. Nigel Bell, JD and loads of others fall into this category. In terms of honours and trophies they have few, and only Trinity fans really remember them. To the wider game they are but footnotes, but to us they were heroes.

The nearly boys - Fifita is one of these, so is Tom Johnstone. These are players who had they been in a better Trinity set up that may well have won Trophies, they would undoubtedly be the star men, and would most definitely have become true legends. Through no fault of their own, and in both of the above cases, an incredible loyalty to the club, they never got the chance.
