Watched the Cas V Leeds semi final there a few years ago and was very impressed. Anything approaching that would be more than expected.

To clarify it wasn’t sold it was put up as security against a loan/overdraft, fundamentally there is/was nothing wrong with that in a business sence. Also the Bank of Ireland are hardly ‘dodgy’.
The use of the land as collateral may happen again though I suspect in a far more sustainable way.
I don’t know who owns the ground but so far it would appear to be the club not the trust though I may be totally wrong.

Certainly the press release from WMDC stated that the money had been loaned to Wakefield Trinity, with no mention of the trust.
I'm not sure where this leaves the trust, in relation to any "community stadium".
For Trinity, in a way, this is better than it being a community stadium as the asset would eventually be owned by the club.
Does this mean that there will be some "token" facilities at Newmarket and how will this affect any access to grants, which may be harder to access ??

Ref. Dodgy bank in Ireland. It was a tongue in cheek comment. I’m sure I read somewhere that the Trust is in control but I could also be totally wrong.

I’ve now find out. It not my place to tell the whole complex deal but I can offer you that it’s a bit of both for now, but it is the club who own it at the moment.

| From subsequent comments on the subject, BarnsleyGull, I would say not such a stupid question as you claimed it was eh?? The Trust as I see it were formed to obtain a community sports venue at Newmarket, not to achieve a sale of the ground to Trin, hence my question. As it turns out I think the latter is the better option.

| Looking at cheaper solutions, I guess something like the below (with a deeper roof) along the Western Terrace would be fit for purpose. I think it holds 1500 and is approximately a third of the touch line. This is Harrogate Railway so should be achievable for Trinity, especially if the link up with Wakefield FC opens up football grants.

Yeah that's the sort of thing I would envisage us looking at, maybe another ten feet deeper to give a decent view then there'd need to be a crows nest for the cameras and commentators to be located.

Think we can do better than that, looking at that it's basically a temporary stand/structure - I'm guessing but I don't know for sure that it would only have a ten year lifespan before having to be replaced.

| I’d imagine it will be a fit for purpose ground that’s built. I couldn’t imagine MC settling for the cheap option on something like this with only a limited lifespan. If it’s getting done it will be done right. Of course there’ll be a budget but I wouldn’t expect any corners to be cut.

Correct, I’d rather it take as long as it takes rather than settle for that - we are a SL club. I know money is tight but we will have to do better than that.
Sorry Jinj and Klav I get your point but it’s a rung to low for me.

It may take 10 years to secure sufficient funding for something more 'permanent' so as a stop gap I see no issue. The east stand needs the facilities, the west can be something this basic until something better comes along. Still hopefully we'll know the clubs plans in the not too distant future.

Salford City have built a full stadium this way don’t think they’re temporary stands.

| Looks ok as a stop gap but nothing more. Would like to think we could do better and im sure those who make our decisions, think we can too.
Having said that, is it any worse than some of those pictures of, what was put on here a while back, where some were really excited about. Think they were at Salford FC or something

Nice new East Stand with hospitality, basic seated stand south stand for away fans. Something like the above the full western terrace larger version for the North Stand and we have a nice fit for purpose stadium.

But it wouldn’t be it’s a temp stand the terrace is clearly made of metal - sorry but after 15 years battling for a community stadium we deserve better than a glorified bus shelter - remember we are actually owed a brand new 10000 seater stadium. I’m all for compromise but that’s abject surrender. Sorry but I feel very strongly about this - we shouldn’t allow ourselves to get short changed.

Couldn't agree more - we've gone from those fancy drawings, to begging for an aluminium bus shelter; as you say, abject surrender.

I get the POV and support it in theory, however how long do we wait before those fancy drawing become reality. Time is not on our side, do we leave the Western Terrace as it is, or make a cheap improvement now while we wait for the funding to construct something better.

| Aren't we restricted on the height if what we can build in the western terrace.
Sure someone hold me that on the way down to the London game.
If so, does seem arrange that until 1985 there was a big stand there anyway.

I get what you're saying but I'd like/expect the East stand to be the all singing all dancing stand. I'd have thought there might be planning restrictions for the West stand with houses being behind. If you can't go too deep or high then you don't have much scope for bars and food outlets underneath.

I’m not sure there is. A lot has to do with timing. Had we replaced the old west stand straight away we’d have been entitled replace with like for like. However now 30 odd years has passed since its demolition I don’t know if that still holds.
Basically I don’t think there is a legal restraint in place but I’m fairly sure there isn’t. What I do think is that if local residents objected they would nowadays have a far stronger case than the once dad.
What I would like to note is that imho we don’t need a fully covered ground, SL is a summer sport. If we redevelop the east stand to hold say 3k and the north stand is about 2k that’s cover for 5k straight away.
We don’t really need to offer more than 5k for now in the fear that rain might affect 2 games a year. Making BV a commercial venue is what really counts for now. Tuning the east stand/cats bar/south stand boxes into a genuine entertainment HUB that people really want to visit is imo the main priority.
Keeping a few 1000 folk dry twice a year is something to look at as and when. Don’t get me wrong I’d love it to be fully covered and we deserve it to be but these are the sort of compromises I’m on about - all in good time should be our motto.

| there shouldn't be a problem with height as most denials for development tends to be if there's a restriction of light but in this case the sun comes from the other side so if it was pleasantly finished to wouldn't be an eye sore, anything has to be better than what they have to put up with now plus it would help keep noise levels down too
