Believe it or not, I am actually a Kear fan - I still think he's the best coach we have had in my lifetime! I know we've only signed what we can afford, I just don't think I knew the reality before today.

Undoubtedly, penalties killed the game. He blew for what looked to be nothing (for both sides) and then missed things like offsides that were happening throughout. Taking the whistle out of the equation though I thought we didn't look as bad as I expected. I always thought we wouldn't win today but we are a new, young team with a lot happening behind the scenes!
Today I saw a lot more passion than for most of last season. Players like Johnson, Lee and Rinaldi always seemed around the ball, there were others too that put the effort in. We just need to tidy up our game as we never get an inch, tonight he would have probably blown the whistle if he thought one of ours had bloody farted on the pitch!
Who printed the shirts? Certainly doesn't give a good impression spelling 'Veivers' wrong! Let's just put that one down to the old regime can we?

JK is and always has been a one trick pony - motivating the underdog.Maybe quite ironic that the squad we have assembled for this season will actually suit his one trick in some peoples opinion.
Not my opinion though,i would love to see the back off him and a young coach with modern coaching techniques brought in.
In the first game of the season JK has once again shown he doesnt even realise its a 17 man game - the selection of Millard on the bench was a waste of an interchange player. More worryingly it shows he doesnt learn,he has repeatedly over the last 2 years wasted bench spots with crazy selections.

I believe this is the last year of his contract and i believe it will be his last contract with a super league club as Head Coach.

Who would you replace him with?

A coach that has more knowledge of modern coaching techniques.

Agree. To me whilst i accept the squad we have is limited due to the financial constraints we were operating under at the time it was assembled, the imbalance in it (ie lacking props etc) is Kears fault as he should have used the money to ensure we had players in the key positions rather than a load of utility backs. Our poor defense especially out wide is down to Kear as well. He needs to go for me, we won't improve with him in charge and he won't develop the young players we now are relying on for the future.

Oh and Hyde is not good enough to play half back in SL.

Hyde has also only played 1 game of sl at hb so maybe judgement should be kept in reserve

If he goes on to prove me wrong I will gladly eat humble pie but to be honest when Jeffries is fit and if smiths visa ever gets sorted, I don't think he will be getting many more opportunities in that position.

we are not short of props because of the financial crisis. it is because Kear preferred to sign players who have failed at other clubs like jeremy smth , kevin penny, and tommy lee..their wages would have got a half decent prop.I am sick of this myth that Kear can make a success out of every player who has failed elsewhere. his successes are far outweighed by his failures and the fact that he did not pick Penny yesterday speaks volumes.

Totally agree and that was the point I was making. We knew we wouldn't have much money and he did not spend it wisely.

By all accounts we had at least one prop lined up to come in but the situation I.E. not getting the planning permission meaning the short fall in funding meant that we could not sign them.

I reckon that within the next couple of weeks we will have signed at least one prop and also Gledhill will be fit and he will hopefully carry on from the promise he showed last season.

I thought Paul Johnson was excellent yesterday would have loved to see his stats...he tooks lots of ball for his first spell making yards all the time...
And second was just as good..

Agree with all of that. Korky is a great guy but look at what he gives compared to Johnson both in contribution and minutes on the field and there is no comparison.

Yes we did and thats not something Kear could do anything about, plus Bens back soon.

Al I would disagree. If his budget was reliant on that additional money, it should have been some of his utility back signings that hinged on it, not the props. The props should have been sorted first.

a penalty machine. where do you get that from. 3 penalties . 2 of which were very doubtful. the guy that gave most penalties away yesterday, you fail to mention.
the guy worked his nuts off. i was there and saw people a lot more sloppy in defence, i also watched a team with no recognised stand off, no specialist scrum half. only 2 props and a bunch of kids who gave all they had got . were 12 down in the penalty count. 2 men off the field for 10 mins each and still came away with a better score than cas did last millenium. i'd like to say the supporters that actually got there in good numbers and got behind the boys with some fantastic support were great. my opinion is for the first game of the season with what we have got against cas's sunday best. we did ok. we can only play what we have got , so instead of bagging them we should get behind them..

I will concede that we seem to have too many backs/utility players and we do lack Props, but none of us really know what the plan was upstairs, JK may be lots of things but he's not stupid.


Who knows Tricky, i'm sure you'll agree that its never that simple working at Wakey.
