FWIW I don't want an Aussie coach. I don't think they are right for a club like ours, certainly not those straight off the plane. I'm not doubting their ability, far from it. However there are similarities between NRL clubs and the likes of Wigan and Leeds. There are no similarities between Wakefield and the NRL. I'm afraid and I feel the culture shock would take more time to get over than there is time available. I'll make an exception with Woods because he has done his time so to speak.

The beauty of a local British coach is they know the ropes and they actually know the players rather than their stats etc. Someone like Andy Kelly or JK will have been monitoring some players since they were 10 years old and they know what sort of players and individuals they are - they don't need the opinions of other possibly more biased people. They are not necessarily better coached just better coaches for the position we are in.

In the short term it's buy British for me.

Wakefield the club should be making the most of the coaching situation. Press release regarding the number and quality of the applicants. Then a day or 2 days later a statement regarding interview and hope to call a press meeting. Then the introduction of the new coach. ( milk it )

I think you'll find PR is an alien word to Wakefield Trinity, and Rugby League in general.

Dr Koocash would have his media team working overtime on this one, especially if there are some promising unexpected candidates

I'm with you on the British thing Vasty. In the sense that they need to know what they are getting.
So Morrison, Woods and JD will all be fine, but a new coach from overseas would need a big infrastructure around them to get the best results and we just don't have that.

Brian smith as been backed from 20-1 to 4-1 now that would be a a suprise

While it is quiet may I offer an opinion - after firstly suggesting that Dr Koukash,despite stating after the television deal was agreed that 'You don't marry the first girl you meet',did seem to offer Brian Noble the head coach position without interviewing anyone else.I would guess that 'figures at the RFL' suggested Brian Noble to him.

In the case of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats would I be correct in thinking that you require a temporary motivator and the same person who can nurture young players over the coming seasons?

Whomever it was who suggested telephoning Daniel Anderson and Mick Potter,and seeking their advice,may have called it absolutely correctly.

I 100% agree, and by looks of it, so do the SL chairmen. There's only 1 Aussie head coach left in Super league and he has been over here for donkeys. Quite the change from years gone by.

I agree with Vasty that an Aussie coach who doesn't know the players and where we've been going wrong isn't the short term fix we need. Having said that, if Brian Smith is in the frame, and the bookies are seldom wrong, that would be impressive. A coach with real calibre who has coached in this country before so won't have the accompanying culture shock. He will know what he's getting. If the players can't respond to someone like him, we've no hope.

Two to six all seem like good choices. Monaghan is a curious one. Has played under a very good coach but not been part of the coaching set-up with one, so not clear whether he can bring any great methods. And would anyone give up a good number in the south of france to risk everything on a basket case like us?

and other son Rohan is a coach who has worked as his assistant twice and coached the Tongan team.

I would be very impressed and happy if Brian Smith was our next coach.

I'd even take him as a short term consultancy till the end of the season to show Carter what he needs.
He can be part of the recruitment process too.

No Aussie is gonna fly over for an interview and we could not afford travel expenses
