I have to say that the stand roof looks the part. A much higher spec than the approved meccano tin roofs. I would think that Wakey fans will be happy to stand under therein the dry, as will we "away fans" at the back of the North terrace.

Looking at the photos of the steelwork, the structure does have the look of permanency, far removed from something that has to be torn down in 20 months time.



AG or whoever may be trying to pull off a fait accompli to extend the planning approval should there be any delays with NM if it gets the nod, or plan B if it's turned down.

At least you may have a plan B.

If the newmket gets turned down. The structures look of a good enough standard to last the next 3 year license period. There may be a further inclusion in next application that further improvements will be done to the east stand for example.

Should these stands effectively be paid for over 3 years there is no reason why further improvements can't be drafted up. That said the capacity at belle vie will not be 12,000 or over and the club may never own the ground.

All the above hopefully won't matter should Newmarket get the go ahead which I hope it does. Wakefield could achieve around 10,000 in my opinion with the Newmarket stadiumand the club would really rise from the ashes to the clouds.

i was thinking along those lines myself but it seemed so simple i assumed it had already been explored and rejected.

Indeed - safe to assume that the architects and engineers involved in designing the project will have explored all the possibilities.

Demolish the west terrace and put a whole new stand there, build a decent bog behind the sticks along with the planned stand, Belle Vue would be decent.

In year 2 my next project would be to build an all seater grandstand on the Eastern side with corporate boxes.

Year 3 would sell of the flats and build a terrace with a home bar at the back.

Hope my numbers come in on the lottery....

When they move on to the North terrace, does anyone know if anything's likely to happen to the floor first? Will it be levelled or just covered with a roof?

Buy Superbowl & level the land to give us more room to play with & provide some more on site parking (with a small turning circle for the park & ride). Use proposed NM park & ride sites.

Phase 1 Build a new east stand (5000 seated capacity), with corporate boxes. Make this the "family stand". New TV gantry included.

Phase 2 Dig out the north terrace and build a new stand similar to the newest one at Headingly, some seating & a small standing section at the front. Designate for home fans.

Phase 3 Knock down & remove the current buildings & stands on the western terrace & replace with new covered terrace with toilets & amenities underneath. Make western terrace open to away & home fans.

Phase 4 Remove the flats & replace with modern covered terracing. Officially make the new south terrace an away only stand & designate the western terrace for home fans.

Bang, brand new BV.

Would cost 10 times as much as NM, be even worse in terms of planning regulations & cripple an already exhausted traffic network. But if we're playing make believe it sounds great!

Oh & buy BV while we're at it!

Yes please!! Those were the days - everyone would wait to see which way they were playing and then spend the next five minutes getting behind the sticks at that end. I used to love the crush under the old west stand at half time when both sets of supporters would try to swap ends at the same time.
But seriously - with a roof I think it would be much better if Trinity filled the north end. Let the away fans be spread out down the sides.
