Great line. One of many.
I have all the soundtracks to the 'Dollars trilogy' and 'Once upon a time trilogy.' Every one of them are outstanding. A fistful of Dynamite sounds very early Floyd in parts.
Every scene in Once upon a time is just perfect, Leone tried to create an oil painting from every angle and the actors had the awe-inspiring soundtrack fired at them during the scenes to play off it.

There's a little bit of musical snobbery about that comment though. The reason they are so well known and so popular is that they are great songs, but because they are great songs they are played, and sold, often and that breeds contempt sometimes, especially by those with a deeper knowledge of music.
I agree that some of these songs are a little bit cliche'd, but I'm thankful that they exist and that they are known to a wider audience than the just the musically motivated and that even the relatively un-musical or un-educated (musically) have the chance to listen to them, enjoy them and perhaps become quizzical for more! ![Cool icon_cool.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_cool.gif)

Yep - the perfect soundtrack to certain nights out in the 90's.

I still use that expression when someone is causing me consternation.

You're right actually TRB, apologies for the snobbery, I get fed up of hearing them cos there are so many other great songs by those artists and others who get overlooked / forgotten because Paranoid gets played.

| Planet Rock reminds me of someones dull Dad playing the choicest cuts from his boring record collection; as good as some of their songs were, I can only listen to Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy annd Led Zep so many times before the Roberts Radio gets chucked against the wall.
I'm a 6 Music addict myself - keeps me company on looooong business journeys.

You must be referring to my son then!
I agree that there is a little too much emphasis on Zep / Purple, but I will take that above the dross on other stations!

Best station is Radio 2 for me. A little bit for everyone. It's especially good at reminding you of certain bands/songs you'd forgotten and it's a real joy to discover them again. I also like the eclectic mix. I'm no metal fan like you but if I were listening to it all the time would do my nut in (not saying you do). On Radio 2 you'll hear Sabbath or whatever your into followed by Glenn Campbell and you will find you enjoyed hearing Glenn again even if you don't rush out and buy the record. Hell I even appreciate Human League a bit after a lifetime vendetta against them. Get rid of Jeremy Vine who is a total tw*t and you have perfection for me.
Can't stand Radio 1, limited playlist and the worst collection of limp, inane and dull DJ's ever collected under one roof. Never thought I'd say this but bring back the hairy cornflake.

I like the presenters on radio 2 - but the music is too eclectic for my liking as I have massive dislikes of M Jackson / Dexys' / UB40 and the likes...
I love my metal, but most types of rock agree and there's plenty of pappy pop rock in the old collection, such as Glass Tiger, Cutting Crew, Mr Mister etc - just to slow the pace (and volume) down a little! ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

| I can't listen to Radio 1 or 2 - Radio 1 is clearly not aimed at me any more and Radio 2 is a bit old farty. It's 6 Music every time for me, or 5 Live if I need something talky.
Thank the lord for the iPod though - mine streams directly to the car stereo, so it's possible to get rid of all DJ's and other distractions and just listen to my own music; I love that thing that happens when the iPod is on shuffle and it suddenly plays you a song that you forgot you had and remember that you loved - cue slighly mental singing in the car and strange looks from people at traffic lights.

That may have been the case but not now - sure you do get the odd what the hell was that track but it's generally OK. Also a lot of the presenters are pretty young, probably younger than you ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif) Chris Evans (marmite I know), Simon Mayo, Jo Wiley, Dermott O'Leary are hardly in their zimmers. Yes david Jacobs and Tony Blackburn ore stiil about nut heck you can turn them off.
I can live with all them apart from Jeremy Vine - I'd rather listen to Galaxy and generally I'd chew my own arm off than to that ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

I'm afraid that all of those people, with the possible exception of Jo Whiley, get on my wick - I think I like 6 Music because it has music snob credentials; presenters like Huey Morgan, Guy Garvey, Jarvis Cocker, Radcliffe & Maconie, Steve Lamacq etc all have musical credibility (in my opinion of course) and seem to genuinely love what they're playing.
I dunno - I guess I prefer radio to be about music; 1 & 2 seem to be rammed out with 'celebrities' who talk about themselves, TV, other celebrities and inane gossip and who only play records as an incidental thing, in between the talking.

I certainly get your point on that one - funny thing is if you listen to Tony Blackburns show he shows you how it should be done. I know he's a bit of a wally and his jokes are awfull but generally it goes 3 tracks in a row a quick punchy jingle and 30 seconds of harmless waffle then were off again - old school ![ROCKS k020.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//k020.gif)
