| Was it not chuffing obvious to your BoD that a planning application built wholly on green-belt land would be called in? Yes, it's only the second to be called in during this government BUT nobody else would even bother applying for PP with such an unrealistic chance of success.
Your best hope of staying in SL was to accept the feasibility study suggested and agreed to a ground-share (surely playing at GH would have been better than any other option?).
You have my support as a fan of RL, I think your fans have been short-changed by your BoD and there is nothing I would like more than to see two successful clubs in the district.

Do you honestly think the RFL would give franchises to 2 clubs playing out of 1 stadium in Castleford. It would more than likely give the franchise to Castleford leaving us to play NL rugby as Wakefield in a stadium in Castleford which means certain death.
All the feasibility study was intended to do was to get both clubs to pool funding and resources at Glasshoughton which would have helped Castleford and not us. Fortunately our BOD did not fall for that one.

I think it would have actually made it more difficult for the RFL to single out one club, particularly if they were going to claim the decision was based on stadium facilities which would be identical.
And it would have been better than being in the current situation. Your BoD are a bunch of imbiciles for expecting to get the go-ahead to build on 100% green-belt land without being called in!
I certainly don't want to come across as gloating as I would love both clubs to do well (as tempting as it is after the years of trolling on the Castleford Forum over the past year or so).

If I was a Wakefield fan it would be the BOD I would be blaming for this potential disaster.

2 choices - agree to share at Glasshoughton and give Castleford the franchise on a plate leaving us in NL or gamble on Newmarket which could of come off or leave us in NL. Easy choice to me.
I'm waiting for the official announcement that you have secured all the funding (I guess around £14m) to build Glasshoughton and not just land on which you can borrow £2m against to enable you to submit a detailed planning application.
We are in the clag but I'm not sure you are home and dry yet. It may be over for us but I hope for you're sake your not being led down the garden path also.

I don't think we have the funding to build the stadium, although the deals with Metrel and Probiz do have stadium naming rights included, but I wouldn't expect this to be into the millions.
We are nowhere near home and dry. We have been led up the garden path before, and I think we are being now. It's just that your garden path has led to the edge of the cliff already, whereas ours seems to be a bit longer.

I'm sure we have not got the full funding at the moment, and it could all go wrong for us but I all I can do is hope we are safe.
Unfortunately for you it's been a gamble your BOD took (egged on by others who had other motives) and it looks like they have lost.

At present we are still in SL we still have a ground and a team to take to the pitch come the new season, I did in the end buy a season ticket along with shirts for the family and will do so as long as its Wakefield Trinity Wildcats !!!!!(Dreadnoughts ) as I have done for a lot of years.
Thanks to those supporters from other clubs who wish us well and mean the best cheers.
As for my opinion on why we got to this point well were to start.
Come on the Trin

Good post!
Does it matter who's to blame for this situation? The fact is we're in this mess and, as supporters, our support is more important han ever. Next season is our last at BV and I'll be at as many games as possible to see the old place off in style - I hope it's packed every match. And wouldn't it be great if we turned over a few of the of the teams whose smug / arrogant / downright pig 5h1t thick supporters have given us grief over the last 12 months. Wouldn't it be even better if we finished in a reasonable position - above some of the so called superior teams in SL. And then, wherever we're playing in 2012, and in which ever league, surely we're all still Wakefield Trinity supporters. We need to get behind the team not desert it just because (if) we're not in SL. I'm staying strong, staying positive and keeping on supporting my team, the team my dad supported, the team my great granddad played for. Come on the Trin!!

I wouldn't be so sure. Let us assume that apart from the stadium issue, we both tick more or less the same amount of boxes. If we then look at the stadium issue as what goes on top of that, which will the RFL prefer:
1. A Super League quality stadium, as part of the Plan B that the RFL wanted last time, in a county with no current Super League presence, with a fully-funded Newmarket development still a likely outcome; or,
2. Castleford in exactly the same place as they were, with fines for crowd trouble and homophobia.
I would put our bid above a Cas bid. We have to remember that the RFL look at all of this in very different terms to fans, and they might just see a glossy stadium for Wakey, even if it is sharing with a football club. On paper, with a move to the Plan B, I think our application is better. Why is a Wakey application, based on a Super League quality stadium, worse than Cas's bid, as things stand at the moment?
If Cas get the funding and start building, I would have to concede defeat, but I wouldn't get too cocky just yet if I was a Cas fan, and I wouldn't get too pessimistic if I was a Wakey fan (although the mood of the day is gloomy).

Point 1 - The RFL have been down that road with you before at Barnsley. At the time off application (March?) and award (July?), even if they felt you had funding for 2 stadiums, there will be no guarantee of one being built as Wakey will still be going through the planning process, that's providing of course Yourcourt have not cut their losses and called it a day.
Point 2 - Cas will have full approval and [umay[/u even have started some construction. As for the rest if they can prove certain systems are in place I see no problem. The club has been punished once.

Yes, but you would have to prove that you can deliver the stadium you have planning permission for? Cas know they need full planning permission before they can realistically include it in an application, but won't they have to prove that they can deliver it, as the planning permission could be seen as just a smokescreen to hopefully buy you another three years in which to build it. Whereas Wakey's application would be based, I assume, on a tenancy agreement to play at a stadium that is already built and would fulfil the quality criteria.
I'm not saying that things look great, but it is too tempting to think that all is doomed on the Wakey front, and all is rosy on the Cas side. On paper, the Wakey application would be better, as it would be based on a stadium that is already built, and we all know how the RFL like things to look good on paper, rather than reality.
There's a lot of water to travel under both bridges yet, and I wouldn't write Wakey off, and I wouldn't be buying in the champagne just yet. We were both warned that we had to be in Super League quality stadia by 2012. We will be. You probably won't be.
