| I rate Motu very highly. He is a very good fullback, not the usual safe fullback ie Wellens, Briscoe but he has moments of brilliance and his kick returns and quick ptbs are of the highest order.
If he can regain the form he showed at Hull then it is a very good signing.

I am sorry to rub it in, honestly I am.
But your recruitment for next year is just laughable. It really is a joke, and a sad indicament that you believe you are still owed a Super League licence.
There will be clubs in the championship next season with stronger line ups that you will have.
All clubs should be doing their best to move the game forward, and the only way to do that is to make it more competitive. Your recruitment indicates you will be far from competitive.'"
Your probably right squire our recruitment has been a bit dissapointing for next season, maybe we ought to have gone for some of your aging injury prone players instead, but then again they did not win a lot at Leeds last season so maybe not. Lets hope that your lot are a bit more competitive next year as well, because lets face it they were an embarassment at times last year.

have to agree we have not made one signing that will make us stronger in any way BUT i would have thought our main objective for next season is a new home.saying that we are in for a long and hard season

On 1 year and pay-as-you-play contracts? On the contrary, Mopsey, a new coach would probably be delighted.

cos we have john kear and all he wants to do is sign the so called project players or players he as coached before.i dont know if we have any more coming in but we still dont have a(proper) scrum half or a goalkicker,im sure the wages of smith, tony and the two wigan lads could have solved that problem then as you say we could have blooded our own youngsters

What he said. He can also cover a number of other positions to a good standard.
Motu is one of my favourite players from recent years. A model professional, very talented, and will always give 100% effort. Providing he has sorted his fitness he'll be a great signing for you.
Very happy to see him back in SL.

Because until last week we probably weren't in a position to do so, or have these events somehow passed you by?
The 3 decent players and youngsters to fill in scenario is about 20 years old, from the 3 overseas players days of Ella, Graham and the rest. FWIW, I actually think it's a decent arrangement. I certainly enjoyed the rugby more then. Things may yet improve... you never know.

Wherever we end up in the league next season will not determine the competition we're playing in the season after. What we manage to build in the meantime will. If we have a season where we manage to unearth a couple of gems, maybe, and a handful of decent squad players, AND we get a license, we could hit Newmarket with the basis of a solid squad and be in a position to buy in the kind of players who will put bums on seats. Got to be worth it in the long term, hasn't it?

Of course they were. If we knew we were going to get provisional approval for the stadium and some mystery benefactor was about to shell out 160K to pay our tax bill, we might have been in the market for, and able to entice the kind of players you'd like to see play for us. Whether they would have given more and been any better than some guy playing for his future is debatable. For every good buy-in there's a flop, and for every poor prospect there's the chance of a Jamie Peacock. You wanted young and British, sunshine. You've got your wish (though I understand the Motu Tony thread is probably a bad place to mention this).

Why would we swap? Surely we would keep Blaymire as number 1 and have Slater as 4th choice full back behind the others.

I really do hope we finish in the top 8 next season then again we could win the league and grand final and you would still moan that jk is rubbish and were not bringing enough youths through and were signing second rate players

| it baffles me this signing, I ain't a anti Kear fan as I'll stand by the 'he was the best coach at the time' but I just don't understand why he keeps signing previous players that he was worked with,
a pay as you play contract does justify his arrival but has he played other roles than full back ?

Tony is tough as teak Nicknamed Coconut Head by the Kiwi team, can play hooker, halfback, loose forward, or fullback (but i doubt he will get a run there these days.
Given the nature of the contract I think it is a reasonable deal, he takes no quota spot and need only be used if he proves himself and so only gets paid if he proves he is worth it.
Cant see a problem personally. Its a no lose situation for Trinity.
