As far as I understand it, Catalan approached Kear, not the other way around, and JK sought the permission of Wakey to see what they had to say, which is perfectly understandable, and was given approval. There was nothing underhand from any side. The issue of compensation ultimately led to Catalan pulling out, and as the statement says, we all move on. JK wasn't and isn't looking to leave Wakey, but simply pursued an approach made to him that was exciting and offered more security. Now the door has been closed, it's as we were, onwards and hopefully upwards, and I think we should just get behind him and the team for the rest of the season.

why do you have to go and be all rational and spoil things?

I'm sorry I do not agree with the above.

IF JK was 110% happy, content and committed to Wakey then he would have declined ANY advances.

The fact that he wanted to see what was on offer and was happy to be interviewed for the job tells its own tale.

IF he wasn't interested he wouldn't have spoken to them re the vacant position.

Problems ahead I foresee....

Catalans approached Wakefield with a view to signing John Kear - FACT
John Kear wanted to join Catalans as coach - FACT
Wakefield insisted Catalans pay compensation for the remainder of John Kear's contract - FACT
Catalans refused to pay said compensation - FACT
John Kear was/is upset with Wakefield for not allowing him to leave for Catalans -FACT

so we have a coach who wants to be elsewhere, we have no new ground despite peoples hard work, no new ground no sl. bv sold,no ground to play in nl if we get booted out. good move by the board that. but i no lets back the bod and jk for HIS team playing total dross.

I do. I had already come to the conclusion that JK was off if he could have been and already aired my concerns that we were left with a coach that everyone including the players would know wanted out.

How are the team going to respond to his coaching now

Fair point, but if I was the club, I would have tried to come to some compromise with Catalan over compensation. We do not in my eyes benefit from JK staying, we are possibly more disrupted than if he had gone

fair point too, theres a credibility issue here for me, but i think the one that gets to me most is it seems that any asset is up for grabs if it reduces the current wage bill. Sorry but im on the last train to doomsville!

Anyone who has visited Perpignan would understand that there are great lifestyle benefits attached to this position that most rational people would find appealing. I think that this may have been a factor in JK's interest. West Yorkshire or South West France.........lol.

Don't think anyone is disputing JK reason for being interested in the job, just how a coach whose main assset in the past has been motivation skills, is going to fair when his players will know he was ready to leave

If I was JK I would have jumped at the chance and has a Wakey supporter I would have wished him well.

That said he and Catalans should have done their homework first as he is under contract and surely both parties must have known Wakey would not have released their head coach for free.

Now Les Cats have pulled out JK must feel somewhat foolish.

If you were a player at Wakey would you be happy taking orders from your gaffer who you know was close to jumping ship?

Why would he feel foolish? He should feel angry that they don't value his services enough to offer compensation to Wakefield to get him. I'm sure he knows Wakefield have every right to demand that, and the fact that the club allowed him to talk to Catalans in the first place should make him realise he has decent employers, if he doesn't know it already, which he probably does.

As a player - I'd be more concerned about my own performances and how to improve than where my coach may be heading in the future. Players are exactly the same - very few will play for one club for their entire career. Coaches don't stay at one club either. Anyone who has a professional attitude will try and make the best out of themselves that they can. Why should anything be different?

I am sure thats the way some players see it but it won't help us win games as a team unless they all feel that way, it must be hard for some players within the squad put in improved perfomance with all these distractions.

Effort, blood and guts is no longer the winning formula in rugby league and the coaching and tactical side play a huge part.

For a club like ours with average players we need to pull together from top to bottom, anything less and we are screwed and thats what i've seen this last few weeks, cracks and big ones.

Including the bit about Kear being upset with Wakefield? Anyone who posts 'FACTS' in that fashion is a bell end in my book. Using my tried and tested trusty reasoning Catalancs is a supreme bell end in this case

I always thought this was a fans forum .not a platform for the club to have a pop at loyal fans of over 35 years.Some people want to realise how much MOPSEY as done for the club , and the time he s given up to it , before saying the club doesn t need fan s like him . the club should be sorting the abject on field perfomances out before slagging fans , it s all getting rather roonyesque
