You're going back some years there and as far as i can remember the shop never had a name but the lad who owned it was called Geoff. Bought my lads their first NRL shirts from there, one was the old maroon Manly shirt but can't remember the others.

| Quote ="vastman"Why.
Total myth I'm afraid.
Not one player we have signed falls into the superstar category that actually makes more people buy SL tickets - that needs to be a Thurstone or a Wally Lewis.
Your theory is even stranger considering you are backing Chester to fail an us being relegation fodder on the VT. Ditto you say Allgood is crap, think you have perception issues.
What it will do is encourage folk to pay on the day and IF we are successful especially at home then it will build season on season - the right way in other words.
I recon we could have doubled that if we'd have gone down the Hudds root but thankfully our Chairman values the product and won't initiate a policy that failed before when we sold 4000 at a loss.
1,200 is where I'd expect to be, I wish it was a lot more but I understand that the signing of players like Williams and Huby though good from a hard core fans POV will hardly set the city alight.
Funny or daftest thing is that the one players who's signing might have excited a few people is Tom Johnstone, but as we already have him and we certainly don't wish to spoil him there isn't much we can do.
If we have an even better season than last year then I think the 2017 season will be a more reliable indicator.'"
What's stranger is I've never said anything about you been relegation fodder on the VT what I've actually said is it wouldn't surprise me if Kear was in charge come the end of the season I've said you've recruited better than Widnes, Huddersfield, Salford and Leigh and I had an opinion on Allgood being someone who has actually watched every game he's played for the last 2 seasons he's ok nothing more and when I said I thought you would have sold more season tickets it's that you seem to be the most stable you've been for a few years now with good solid signings ( the days of superstar signings are long gone)

| Quote ="Eastern Wildcat"Come on Vasty, signing Thurston, back to the real world. That even beats my comments regarding Fifita and Graham.
They were out of our price bracket, and if the Zero Tackle website is accurate regarding salary cap values, then Thurstones value is nearly double that of Graham.or Fifita.
I dont think any SL club would have any serious wiggle room without having a detrimental impact of their squad or exceeding the cap. '"
I bet you're fun at parties.

Yep, I must have been about 17 or 18 when I bought it.

My wife bought me a Cronulla Sharks shirt from there in about 1984/5 for training ... stood me in good stead as it helped me decide where to live and which team to support when we moved to Sydney in 2008.

don't think 7 days a week is realistic but match days are possible, also you only have to look at the amount of people waiting to get served shows that the quicker keg beer is to get punters in and away from the bar

| You should always keep one or two pumps clean and have them ready to pull but with water. Connect up and then pull the water off.
Hand pulled should be cleaner regular and I'm water.
Many systems now clean automatically but it's not as good as the old dye system.
The old system would keep the pipes clean and you could visually check by simply pulling the cleaner through.
It's easy to tell on electric pumps because it actually looks dull in the glass not crystal clear.

| If they got the pumps and beer right, it could be operational 7 nights a week, with regular pub style entertainment such as quiz and race nights. They could also do like music themed nights such as 60s, 70s and 80s.
I recall someone saying that for a sports stadium to operate and make a profit it has to be able to make money 365 days a year.

It's a bit far out of town for most people to incorporate it into a night out. The club could have a coffee shop and a pub operating in the town centre near all the other real ale type pubs though which would get used. Offer season ticket holders a 10% discount on all purchases and sell some merchandise too! I'd certainly choose a Trinity Coffee shop over going into Costa

Yep, coffee shops are the big thing now.
Peoples drinking habits have changed Eastern, how many pubs surrounding the ground are no longer there?
Apart from match day, opening throughout the week wouldn't make economic sense.
Maybe this is why quite a few home games are not on Sunday?
The corporate and bar would probably make more on a Friday.

It's good that either way it doesn't affect yourself.
How many in the corporate will have that extra one or three on a Friday because they won't be working on Saturday?
If people aren't buying season tickets, MC has to find other ways of maximising income.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all, I'm happy with Friday night games and I'm sure that many people will drink more on a Friday night than they would on a Sunday afternoon which is good for the club (so long as the beer is a decent(ish) quality)

| Pubs are closing everywhere but not just near the ground. Ones near the ground like Forresters and Graziers hasnt been there for years.
I think there is more to it than cultures changing.
People arent going to the pub as frequently I think because of some if the priced that are charged in some. I love it in Elephant and Castle but at over £3 a pint. You then go in a Weatherspoons and can have a pint of beer for considerably less.
I mentioned before about the ground and accessibility between the North Stand and Cats bar. There is actually a building behind the north stand near the toilets that I dont think is used for much, it is small, but if the ground was to get a re vamp could this be turned into a small bar.

Over £3 for a pint in The Elephant compared to considerably less in Wetherspoons, is probably down to what you want to got to the pub to do?
If you want to go and get leathered watching 'freeview' in Wetherspoons, that's fine but if you want to watch the match on Sky at The Elephant, the Sky subscription is obscene in pubs, so that's why the beer is more expensive.

I would imagine the Sky subscriptions would be pretty much the same in them both allowing for the square footage.
As for the difference in beer prices that's simply down to buying power which Whetherspoons have, so much so that they can buy beer cheaper than normal because it is coming up to it's sell by date and comfortably sell it while still in date.

But the difference being Wetherspoons don't have Sky.
It's like Sam Smiths pubs, they have the bare minimum and their beer is cheap.
