| Quote ="vastman"FWIW this is my take on a ground move.
Dewsbury is by far and away the best option IMHO.
It's virtually the same distance from the town centre than NM.
It's actually nearer to our main supporter base.
It's already built and is modern compared to BV if a little basic.
Who gives a stuff if it's 500 meters away fro being in WMDC who don't deserve us anyway.
It requires very little spending on it in the short term, maybe a floodlight upgrade and some temp seating at the sides of the main stand. We could possibly move our Exec boxes to the ground to give us more hospitality and office space as one end is still free - not sure what state they are in or how easy this is but if Fev fans can rebuild a whole stand!
Long term plenty of room to upgrade to 10,000 plus.
The issue is not the ground the issue is what terms we go on.
If we go as tenants forget about it, as others say we will wither and die - these deals never work and we will eventually be shown the door. Also on one feels connected to the place. We will become nomads and end up a basket case like Oldham.
If however we go fully committed and buy a stake in the stadium then it becomes home and it is secure and we could thrive. I'd say 10% was the minimum but 30% would be better, discounted obviously because of why we will bring SL RL hopefully.
I'm all for it but it may require us all to dig deep into our pockets to achieve - not a Trinity fans strong point I'm afraid.'"
Makes a lot of sense to me, if it's Dewsbury - I'm in!

| So realistically Newmarket and Belle Vue dead and buried. Dewsbury our only hope - god help us!
All we need then is a sugar daddy to build us a new stadium. Not going to happen is it. Ah well Dewsbury Trinity has a ring to it!

Don't think that would help now tbh.

| I do wonder what Dewsbury will make of it. They might end up with a slightly improved ground, but the casual rugby fan might prefer to turn out for Super League than the Championship.

I was just thinking the same. How will this effect them in both the short and maybe the long term, especially like you say when there is an option to watch a SL side on a weekend. It's a big decision for them as well. I suppose it depends what we bring to the party and if it outweighs any loss of casuals fans.
Does anyone know the official Capacity. In Wiki it says 5100 but in other places it says 3500

| Some real sense being talked on here now .Great if we could own share of stadium to give us a feel of 'belonging'. Even the feelings of resignation people understandably have can be channelled into positivity. Could unite the fans and enable us all to put up two fingers to all against us. This would be especially enhanced if this difficult period could be eased by continued improvement on the field of play.

Not sure about that, i bet YC are very happy with his work so far.
The whole thing is a mess. I really do not know how the likes of TRB etc manage to keep going with it all.
Id like to lay the blame totally at YC/WMDC's door, but all the previous owners and the general public of Wakefield need to take some responsibility. MC is doing the best he can with the cards he has been dealt but i bet there is not a day goes by where he doesn't regret ever getting involved!
If Dewsbury is our only hope then so be it, although like most, i cant say i'm happy at the prospect.

| Are we not doing what many on here have ridiculed with regards to London. Why would Dewsbury want to give us a share and is it their ground to do so.
You all blame the council and the developer but aren't we giving them just what they want. What happened to the money saved by reducing the rent because it was not spent on the ground.

We are not giving the developer or the council anything. We have no choice its a battle we have lost we have been out manoeuvred by their unscrupulous and shameless behaviour. I see this as a tactical withdrawal , we are still fighting and the war is still there to win.

| Dewsbury will be a disaster for this club, and that's speaking as someone who would follow Trinity there. No good will come out of it long term.
However I concede there doesn't seem to be another option. Carter won't put the money in, not enough fans would put the money in and the council certainly won't either.

The stadium and land surrounding it is owned by Dewsbury Rams.
If you haven't been there for a while you'll be surprised at the work that has been done over the last few years.
There is a new terrace behind the posts on the owl lane end and an excellent electronic scoreboard. The stadium has also been kept in an excellent standard, ie painting and new turnstiles.
When Wigan visited in the cup this season, the fans thought the stadium was fantastic.
Once the other end behind is the posts is finished it will look great

| Is the Owl Lane pitch up to having two teams playing on it for a full season? I have only been to the ground once shortly after Dewsbury moved there, but from what I've seen in passing I'm not over impressed.

| At the moment the club are using the stadium pitch for training until the floodlit all weather sports pitch is built in the next year. Until then it could possibly be an issue. If Wakefield moved to the stadium I'm sure something would be sorted

My opinion is I think it could be good for Dewsbury.
We tried to convince Ossett Town to move to our stadium a few years ago. Their supporters seemed excited by the idea, but the aging members voted against the move to stay in their ageing stadium.
Our chairman has said in the past that to own and run a stadium costs a lot of money, especially when it isn't used for 5 months a year.
If we had a tenant or if we sold a share in the stadium it would help towards the costs of running the stadium.
A lot of money has been spent by the club over the past few seasons on the stadium.
Over the next season a brand new all weather pitch and some 5 side pitches are being built, so the stadium and surrounding area is getting better and better each year
