| TRB I'd like to place on record my thanks to you, swag and everyone else who worked so hard for this decision. I had major doubts about the application but you stood strong and firm and remained confident and pulled it off (with ease, I hear every councillor supported the application). I don't always agree with the way you stick up for the club and try to put a positive spin on everything but without you I believe this application would have been much harder, I have maximum respect for you and your efforts. This decision has in my opinion saved the club (for now at least - just hope it doesn't get called in but that seems highly unlikely from the murmurings I've heard). Heard there's still one more signing to be announced (any clues as to who it is??) things do look a whole lot rosier and I'm bow actually quite looking forward to our last season at belle vue even with what I would class as mediocre signings. It's all starting to get very real now (I know you have lots more hard work to do in the coming few weeks) but the playing side of things seems a little insignificant at the moment which is surreal as that's what w pay our money for - entertainment on the pitch.
On another note what was the reaction of the players and coaching staff after the decision? Did they look as happy as the fans?

Good luck to ya,but how you will be debt free in a new stadium when u have ended up like this in your current 1 is hard to get your head round. Also its just outline planning isnt it whats the difference and do u now have funds as you are now just over 12 months till 2012 kicks of even if u start to build now would it be finished in time for 2012 season? I i will say this ill take my hat of to ya if you get it done very best of luck because the clubs that build staduims and keep the promise should get in superleague first

| Quote ="TRB"Can I just say a massive thank you for all the comments on here. They are much appreciated, but I have to turn it back around on you guys and gals....
You were the ones with the power, it just needed a little focus, but when you were asked to go out and fill those petition forms you not only succeeded, but you set new standards for this type of effort - in RL terms and in terms of WMDC - it was amazing!
The petition proved, beyond all reasonable doubt, that there was genuine support, in huge numbers, for this development. There was never a discerning voice and, in my time as a supporter, it was the single most unifying event to happen.
I am spending a few days 'chilling', then we'll take stock and review what our next actions are, but today we wake up to a whole new future for our club and, I believe, there will be more good news to come over the coming weeks and months.
This is Wakefield - Together We Are Stronger!

Start sweating anyway because we may now have made the rfls offer to you a bit more difficult now.

Heard a little story abount funding at a certain club and the fact its now stopped, no more money being invested at said club.
May or may not be true but it makes you wonder about "sugar daddys".
Anyway back on topic, feel good factor needs to be pushed by the club into all areas, we may have more "sponsors" showing interest.

In some development schemes it is not possible to present the development as a whole and initially only the principles of planning permission are delivered. In this way some components of the plan can be reviewed at a later date. Depending on their importance to the overall plan, issues such as access routes, design and appearance may or may not be a part of outline planning applications. On granting of outline planning permission a supplementary application will need to be made, which will incorporate previously reserved elements and allow planners to consider the plan in full. Development can only commence when this secondary application has bee approved by the planners. Outline Planning status means that in principle it is possible to build on a particular piece of land and this status is usually valid for three years before reapplication is necessary. In some cases outline planning is necessary however in general applying for full planning permission from the start is more time efficient and less costly.

Just nicked this off widnes site, news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_l ... 679548.stm
they seem confident that we are no threat to them but we may be you our nearest and dearest neighbours.
Look at the date, I don't even think I was born then!!

Squeaky bum time? haha
One team is certain to come up and Widnes are overwhelming favourites to come up. We find out in March if we are in and by that time you may only have a couple of bricks in the ground.
That aside, whether we replace Wakefield or not, i think its great it has been approved for you guys. Another modern state of the art stadium can only be good for British rugby league.

| I don't think it's squeaky bum time in Widnes as I believe their super league status is unofficially confirmed already.
Regarding the rumour that Big Al refers to, I have heard very much the same, a certain benefactor, who saved a championship club and has worked wonders in rescuing them from debt while restructuring their business model, has now withdrawn his own personal financial backing. Whilst he will remain with the club and act as a safety net he will no longer actively fund their activities and they must now stand on their own 2 feet.

| Well done Wakey!
You can’t help but admire the amount of work some people must have put in to achieve this. It was clearly done with a lot of passion too.
I think this may have the RFL cringing. If Wakey were to be kicked out before a certain 2 or 3 other clubs, it would be disgraceful anyway imo.

The decision, for us, is made in March. That makes things difficult for all those clubs struggling to get stadiums built in time. One SL is definitely going down.

This is nonsense.
Steve O’Connor doesn’t actually need to put that much money into the club anyway, as we have a good support base for the Championship and the club is now run so well. The main area, where he does still need to fund the club, is the academy set up. Even Widnes cannot support such a system on the money they can generate. So he is still funding the club.
He has also promised that Widnes will be playing up to the full cap (as confirmed by Terry O’Connor in last weeks RL press), should they get a SL licence. There can be only one source of financial imput here, in order to achieve this - That is Steve O’Connor.
I think some people, in their desperation, have been clutching at straws and have taken SOC’s statement of trying to make Widnes a well run club capable of standing on its own two feet, as an indication that he has withdrawn funding. This is clearly not true. His statement was a long-term aim and nothing more.

He was a crook alright. I’m not sure what you mean by funded though. He ruined our club and sent it into administration by building a squad and then walking out without actually funding it.
We have more than paid the price for his pernicious, brief sojourn at the Widnes Vikings.

You're kidding right? How about in 2012? Do you reckon he'll have to put money in? You betchya! If he doesn't it'll be a short stay in SL for Widnes.
For supposedly well run clubs who don't need sugar daddy's read Hull KR. They were a model NL1 club and got promoted with a team of dedicated backers and hard workers. Still, have a look at their debts and come back and tell me that Widnes don't need O'Connor chucking money at them.
