that was kinda my point really, I don't think you'd have turned Mason down as your 4th/5th choice prop would you?
To be fair with Huby Emmit and (assuming he can hold the ball) Millington, he won't be the first name on the team sheet in our squad either.
I'm delighted with the signing, gives us some real depth which is a real luxury for us

He's a bit expensive for a fifth choice prop!

| Mason would have been a strong signing.
He a quality British prop forward and there isnt too many of them that become available.
Think he will be a really good signing for Cas.

I think he'll be a good signing for Cas and I certainly welcome him into our squad. Imo I reckon Mason is as good as, if not better prop than Huby and Emmitt who both got found out last season.

whoa whoa whoa pedro! this is the NEW wakefield, you guys should want the depth he would priovvide in getting you into the eight again... if injuries mount up you don't want your top eight hopes resting on a front rower with no SL experience do you???
It's a good signing and would've been for wakefield... albeit like you say, a touch expensive. But it depends what you're after I guess

Depends if he stays fit, led to believe there are issues - but yes I'd of taken him though not a huge fan of his.
What this really shows is the sheer lack of depth in our game when Mason is probably the best British prop available!

| I remember the last time we lost out to Cas over a prop.
Many of their posters were salivating at the thought of Korki ripping it up - in the off-season.
Mason's a decent player, but he's the biggest penalty machine around.

| I've got some reservations but think we should keep John and Mellars this season as they offer strength in depth at 6,7 and 2,3,4,5 & if a real need 11 respectively!
All we need is another hard working SL standard prop we don't need a world beater to break the bank

We dont want a craftsman, just a hard, willing prop forward

| Brad Singleton has played once for Leeds last season and he is arguably 7th choice at prop in the Rhinos. Think he has more potential than Hirst and would get more Super League game time at WTW than Leeds.

I'd take another player from the same "school" as Amor

That's one of the names I heard gone then.
Let's get real - we just don't have the budget and there seem to be limited options for off-loading, so we'll have to run with what we have!

Got stuck in against us in the friendly last year/year before, but looked as close to SL fitness as Jarrad Hickey, perhaps less so.

Of the three names that were doing the rounds this time last week two have signed elsewhere and only Kirke remains. Thing is he doesn't want to leave leeds! Leaves us short if the injuries strike. Wonder if Ben Gledhill fancies escaping the mess at Salford and returning?
Just shows why we need anybody that can afford to and hasn't signed up for a membership, or got the shirts & other merchandise to do so. AG is right not to pay more than we can afford like others clubs may do so we have to try and raise the funds ourselves.

Or maybe Richard Agar has fixed and specific attributes in mind and would rather wait than just recruit what's out there. My older brother Neil was very good at understanding what his team needed in order to become greater than the sum of its parts, sometimes a seemingly lesser player actualy adds more to the team than a big name.
It's worth remembering that RAs playing career was at its peak whilest under Neil at both Dewsbury and Widnes, maybe he picked up the same philosophy.

| RA uses Agarmetrics, the RL equivalent of the 'Moneyball' technique - they'll all be at it after we've done the double in 2013!

Could be right Rich - in fact I have no doubt that RA knows what he would like and the style of player he needs, but I strongly suspect that the club are finding it difficult to meet his needs at this point. I also think RA is realistic enough not to get huffy about this and will both accept the situation and work with the club to try and move things around.
I think signing Reece Lyn on a 3 year deal shows that RA is looking at the quality of the player and not the level of the reputation and I think the current squad shows that we are very clever at getting good VfM out of what we spend but, ATEOTD, we only have so much to spend and I reckon we're about at our level now.
