It’s weird because Greg Inglis is over here at wire and it said that when he announced he was coming out of retirement multiple NRL Clubs were interested as obviously he’s one of the best 1-5 to have ever lived. I’m sure I read an article that St George were after him. Tbf no team in SL would be able to afford him straight off the bat, he’s on £400k a year. Obviously if the Sharks are paying the majority of his wage why would he go else where when him and David have always stated they wanted to play together. We were linked with him a few years ago when he literally was the best front rower in the world because of his support for a lad he knew who’d killed someone fighting, he was removed from the Aus test squad and SOO too. I don’t know how it’s gonna work ie the financial side of things but like I’ve said before a 70% AF is better than anything we have, get him up to 90% and he’ll be a revelation in super league.

The Sharks would prefer him to come to SL rather than go to a team in the NRL. They certainly would not fund part of his salary to stay in the NRL but as an incentive to go to the SL makes sense.

Wakefield Trinity confirm Andrew Fifita bid as shock move draws closer

Wakefield have made an offer for Tonga international Andrew Fifita that could reunite him with twin brother David.

The Cronulla Sharks’ 2016 premiership match-winner, whose defection from Australia helped lift Tonga to No 4 in the world, has 18 months left on his contract with the Sydney club but is currently out of favour.

“We have made an offer,” confirmed Trinity chief executive Michael Carter.

“I’ve had one phone call with the main man at Cronulla and he is going to come back to me.

“However, they have now changed the coach so I have no idea at this moment if we will move forward or not.”

Wakefield paved the way for the marquee signing on Tuesday, freeing up space on their overseas quota by releasing Adam Tangata, who has returned to his old club Halifax on a deal that runs to the end of 2022.

Cronulla parted company on Tuesday with head coach John Morris, with Josh Hannay placed in temporary charge until Craig Fitzgibbon takes over from the end of the season.

The 31-year-old Fifita has battled knee injuries in recent seasons, prompting suggestions of an early retirement after a stellar 223-game career which has included 10 State of Origin appearances for New South Wales and 17 Tests – seven for Australia and 10 for Tonga.

Fifita reportedly responded to the threat by shedding 20kg in the off-season in a bid to win back his place and has been plying his trade with feeder club Newtown, although he picked up a three-match ban following his most recent match at the weekend.

The twins played together at Cronulla from 2014-16 and for Tonga from 2010.

I've just watched it and Michael Carter isn't even on! You can't believe a word Mick Gledhil says. I'd be very surprised if MC disclosed our transfer plans to him.

Gledhill is a joke, I`m sure there were a few clubs that have refused him media access in the past but I think he is mates with Chester.

Was strange to see Ben Ikin talking about the famous Wakefield Trinity on Fox League yesterday, Fox Aus reporting yesterday we were looking to offload Adam Tangata to fit him on our quota, they mention a deal not been done but a spokes person for the club said they was "Very confident" the move would happen.

If the deal isn't already done, it seems so unlike the club to talk to the media about making offers for players, especially when it`s a player that would interest a lot of other clubs.

Not condining that and dont want to see him cop any bans should he cone but we do need somone to rough it up a bit

yes we do but that was reckless too slow to get to the player, he's best for us with ball in hand on the attack

'm not sure about the "rough it up a bit". Referees will be looking out for him so I reckon the smallest infringement and there'll be at least a penalty. However it will make the opposition worried about any runs from him, and if that causes them to commit more to the tackle it leaves space for our backs. This is a problem for us at the moment. With the exception of Dave Fifita they aren't worried overmuch about our forwards so our charges don't pull their defence out of shape.

Although, having said that, looking forward to Batts returning as that will also free up Joe Westerman.

Anyone know, do bans get transfered between NRL and SL?

His attitude got him playing for Australia, Tonga and NSW as well as being part of an premiership winning team in 2016

I might be wrong but when sts signed Ben barber wasn’t there uproar because he’d gone to RU where he didn’t have to serve that long ban he got in the nrl

there was an issue if he should serve a ban or not when he started at sts but I can’t remember the outcome

I know there was talk of his ban but I can’t remember how it panned out in the end

He was at the peak of his powers then though and didn’t have Dave with him in late 2016/17. I’m sure he will be fine but you never know. I watched highlights of the All Stars game today and hadn’t realised how trim he has gotten himself. I knew he lost weight from last year but I didn’t quite expect him to have lost that much. The others have to help him out though. I hope it’s given our forwards a kick up the backside whatever happens.

They were both at cronulla together but they didn’t play much together
They’d have the chance to have a massive influence on our games too

I know he doesn’t have to be at his peak with us. I was just saying that he was at the peak of his career then and was extremely motivated, I’m just worried with Dave being here they might cause a bit of mischief. But then again they might not. The more I think about the more I think he probably is coming for the right reasons. I’m probably doing him a disservice due to the past major signings we’ve made that often haven’t worked out. I’m probably just over thinking and being too cautious.

Anyway, if he’s even at 70/80% he will be a huge asset. The target will be truly on his back and the young forwards in SL will want to make a name for themselves but that in itself might take the pressure of our other forwards and may earn us a few pens. As I say the more I think about it the more positive I feel. But as a Trin fan with past experience I feel like I’m entitled to feel a bit nervous and have some reservations.

If they want to give it a real crack for the club, themselves and each other then fair play, it can only be a good thing for us!

I don't think his ban will be an issue. They'll need to sort out a visa and probably some quarantine when (if) he arrives.

Lots of comments about his attack which is quite justified but the one thing that Dave brings that he doesn't get much credit for, is that he doesn't miss tackles. I can't say I know what AF's stats are but I assume with his rep credentials he doesn't miss many either.
Locking up the middle will help our overall defense.

I would also say, there is going to be some pressure on the captain/leadership in the team. Just like with Dave, he's excitable which needs to be balanced on the field. Miller, Lyne, Crowther, Arona and Westerman are all leaders on the field and need to keep a lid on things if either the ref starts watching them or they get mouthy.

Hope the Tangata news is an indicator this is possible. Its going to be great seeing one following the other on charges up field.
