| I'm with Turfedout on this, that I don't think we will survive in the Championship playing outside of Wakefield. No Sky money, less support, and to get back into the Super League, we would have to actually win something, which would mean assembling a squad fit to win something.
It all depends on what view the RFL take. They may be delighted to see us playing out of Oakwell, and in which case franchising isn't dead in the water. We are a club that has not gone into administration, that has had a recent top 5 finish, not been relegated, and will be playing out of a good quality stadium. Trying to think positively, on what criteria could the RFL boot us out? Community work - box ticked. Youth development - box ticked. Good stadium - box ticked. It could be argued that the RFL will see it as a win-win solution: if we get Newmarket a year later, we are in a high quality stadium. If we don't, the RFL might see us as a Super League presence in South Yorkshire.
I'm not sure I get the digs at the board. I'm not privvy to the ins and outs, but it was the council who pulled the plug on Thornes Park, and it is Eric Pickles who has pulled the rug out from under our feet on Newmarket. What else could the board have done? And as for keeping Belle Vue, we might as well have starting selling Championship season tickets.
My only personal point of view is that I'm not sure I would watch Wakefield if they stayed in Barnsley as a permanent move, as they would no longer be a Wakefield team. If we do lose the franchise, then 2018 is the likely one if Newmarket comes off eventually, as we would have the chance to build on something there. I would be discounting 2015 though. The crowds would suffer initially, and I don't think we would win anything in the first three years.
Next season has lost its gloss though. Like 2008, the whole year won't be about rugby but about men in suits dishing out gifts to us rugby peasants.

In the past, I've often feared we'd be forced into a merger with Cas. The minute we move to Oakwell, I'll be worried about merging with Sheffield.

Why worry? It didn't do Huddersfield any harm.

Frustration that they have known Belle Vue has not been up to scratch for almost 20 years and have left it until only recently to try do anything seriously about it. Perhaps.

| Sympathies go out to Wakefield fans on this one, it does look a struggle, trapped between a rock and a hard place, Im not sure there are that many options left for RL in the district as it is now.
But you know what they say, the night is darkest before the dawn, Lets hope that if the worst does happen, between them Wakefield and Castleford can take it as an opportunity to rationalise the sport in the district and they can have at least one club challenging rather than two struggling.

| Heard back from cllr mark crowther of the Wakefield conservative party:
Ian
Thank you for your email
For information I am as frustrated and disappointed as you are and have been publicly behind this project from day one - however due to certain reasons the local media choose not to print anything said by me or my Party locally.
I have been and am in constant touch with Ted Richardson, have lobbied Eric Pickles (clearly now unsuccessfully) to avoid this enquiry and allow localism to prevail and have issued a press statement this afternoon condemning the SoS actions on this matter.
I and we will continue to support the Wildcats in what ever way possible.
Regards
Cllr Mark Crowther

The difference surely is that Saints already have planning permission for their new ground and in fact work has already started so their application will be judged with that fact in mind.
As for the Welsh, does anybody know how Trinity voted when Super League clubs were asked recently to remove the clause relating to insolvency from the 2011 licensing criteria?

There have two very viable schemes occupying their time for much of the last few years, and they have both been vetoed by politicians. The club would have been daft to not back either of them, and I'm not sure there is much else they could have done.
I don't say they are perfect, and I have no idea what could have been done that they didn't, but it seems a shame that people just seem to see today's outcome as an opportunity to bash the board. What else could they have done in the last five or six years to have made the situation any different. The issue has not been funding in either case, but political decisions.

| Not coming on here gloating at all infact quite the opposite it's a sad state of affairs when we both need new stadiums (in times like these) and plunging ourself into debt to stay in SL. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad bit glad when I heard the news as a Castleford Tiger supporter however when I think about it, it's a sad day for RL.
Anyway without being patronising keep yer chins up and keep fighting.

| this needs a bigger response now, there will be a shareholders meeting on 4th January 2011 where I bet it will be announce plan B.
if it is at Barnsley then that shouldn't change our position if anything it should enhance it, so we then have to look at playing out from there until the PI has been completed.
our next step is to get that franchise without it were doomed, with it and we have another three years.
the 2012 season traveling to the new stadium should be set up using buses from different parts of Wakefield rather than the two that we use now, and pick up and drop off points on the way.
lack of support away from belle vue will be the death of the club.

| Did hear rumour that plan B was moving in with Fev R at Post Office Road, would certainly attract more supporters than watching NL at Barnsley, dont know if move would be part of a merger or if it eas just on a temp basis. Would we still have investors if playing in NL for another 3 years what would be point of playing in stadium with car park big enough for 25 buses when only playing Batley, Hunslet,(no disrespect) etc. Think it is looking good for Halifax. dont know how much messing about with thornes park has knocked us back. All blinking doom and gloom but will make every effort to make every game home and away.

I agree without the franchise the club is doomed to death or obscurity (in perpetuity)... not sure which is worse?
however I fear that if the move away from Wakefeld is more than one year then that too will prove terminal.

While they have said 1 to definately go, i dont see why both us and Cas wont go as I think this news brings Halifax right into the mix for a place.
Im waiting for the M word to be raised again?? Having said that, where would we play? Neither of us seem to be able to sort it.'"
The problem is that you promised ground improvements when you were promoted nearly 10 years ago and nothing has changed. Yes our application has been slow and Richard Wright has taken his time to make annoucements, but slowly but surely the jigsaw is taking shape. The recent news of the lifting of the 'exclusion zone' around Hicksons and today's decision to guarantee the £2 million worth of land from WMDC has made our planning application stronger. The fact that the road network is in place and the land ready to start building on, plus the fact we own our ground gives us a slight advantage.
I really hope that you can find a solution and are in SL from 2012.
