This story has really touched a nerve with me, is it just me. . . . ? Having seen the interview with this young girl's mum and being the father of four young girls myself I was actually moved to tears whilst watching her recount the events that led to her daughter's death. I don't really know why I'm posting this on here maybe I'm struggling to make sense of it through some kind of discussion. . . whatever it is I have to wonder what the hell is going on!

Yeah heard the interview with the mum on the radio on the way home, really hit me even though it was on the radio. Suppose things like this do catch your attention more when you have girls yourself like you and like I.

It's the same as when you lose someone close to say cancer. I had an idea how bad it was, but it only really hit home hard how bad it realy was when I lost my mum to it.

Think I must be goin soppy in me old age, but just watched what I thought was a great programme and story on BBC Three about a young lad from Leeds.

What a heartwarming story, nearly brought a tear to my eye.

Also a great example at how much reward just a little amount of effort can bring..

These kind of stories hit you a lot harder when you're a parent, I reckon.

I don't think I'm a particularly callous individual, but before I had kids, I would overlook this kind of news in the papers to get to the sports page. Now it has a completely different kind of impact.

I know of a similar case that happened over here a couple of years ago, as my wife works with one of the people indirectly involved in it. The attitude of the parents of the boy who committed the crime was particularly disgusting in this instance.

I think it's the fear as a parent that you can't always be there to protect your own that underlies much of our reaction to this, and the feeling of helplessness too. Makes you realise how our own parents felt/feel.

Shocking news!

A great coach and, from everything I've ever seen of him, a 1st class human being and gentleman.

Never really got the credit his exploits as England Manager deserved, he was inches away from taking us to the World Cup Final and IMO is up there with Alf Ramsey as the best England Boss ever.

More sad news for the Geordies.

R.I.P Bobby Robson, a true gentleman.

At least he died with dignity in trying to raise money for the illness he was suffering from rather then whoring himself out to the media like Jade Goody.

A great player fabulous coach (who broke new ground in english football,and paved the way for many other coaches to go to europe)

And not least of all a inspiring human being, anyone who battles cancer 5 times and lives on for this long, shows his true charachter.

You will be sadly missed, bobby.

I have been fortunate enough to meet the man - at a Durham v Yorkshire 20:20 game a few years ago.

Proper gent and loved his sport - all sport.
