One iof them was more a ball steal than an interception but as Bren says it can be a risky play.

| Quote ="upthecats"Personally thought Liam Finn was superb in defence...Warrington clearly tried targeting him and getting their big strong forwards one on one with him...I thought at the game he was excellent in defence and the stats back that up...25 tackles with just 2 misses... and as I say a lot of those were forwards like Currie, Westwood, Westerman etc...all superb runners out wide...they even switched Cox over late on for a go and he stood firm!'"
Finn is an all round solid player and smart with it - won't let you down.

| Well what can one say, we now know that he intercepts the ball because he doesn't like to tackle not because the first one was so telegraphed by Westwood and the second was an unnecessary pass thrown by Gridley. In both cases he was in the correct place and knew what was developing.
I would also point out that the turning point was the missed tackle on Clarke not the one on Cox which also involved England but let's not put facts in front of what was perceived.

| Craig Hall has taken his tries extremely well.....but he owes a lot to the players that supplied them. Like some-one stated earlier he is half a player...can be brilliant in attack but his defence is quite frankly embarrassing. When you see the likes of Miller putting his body in front of prop forwards etc I'm afraid Hall just sticking his arm out is not good enough.

Miller has been great this season, so far but let's not forget, he was a massive scapegoat last season and nobody could see any good in him and questions were being asked about why we had extended his contract before the end of last season.
Craig Hall can fill numerous positions and if he was the complete article, he wouldn't be at Wakey, like a few others.
If he scores 2 tries and sets one up, against missing a tackle on a prop every game, I'll take it.

Think we will have to just disagree on this....he was shocking at full back..and at centre he will have to defend. Some suggest he his an half-back .....As for J. Miller last year he was one of the few that gave 100% in a very very poor team .

| I agree, Miller was one of the only guys who always gave 100%
And this year, Hall was pretty good at full back. Warrington springs to mind.

Give over, Miller went missing for half a season - to say you are guilding the lilly is an undestatment. He came good once Smith arrived and had settled - about a third of a season which is what one him the awards.

Are we talking about the same thing here ? My point was Millers effort was always there ..the performance was not due to many factors. Yes he is now playing well due to the coaching of Smith and Chester and the structures they have put in.

Maybe if your being generous but sometimes he really didn't appear interested to me.
Anyways he's fine now and that's all that really matters.

| Well amazing as it may seem Vasty, I saw something different to you.
He was not performing at the quality he is now but I saw effort every time.
You are mixing up two different things.

I think at times last year he was probably trying too hard and as such looked a little like a headless chicken in some games, running round trying to solve problems all by himself. Smiths arrival gave him a little more direction to his play which lead to the upturn in form. Now with a good off seasons work in him and a steady eddie like Finn alongside him his game looks even better in both attack and defence again.

| Fantastic thing is interpretation.
One person sees effort another sees a player running round like a headless chicken.
There were a lot more people in the latter interpretation of Miller than the former.
The team is playing well and that's all that really matters.
CC has already demonstrated that he is not afraid to rotate his squad, so players need to perform week in week out to keep their places.

| Going back to hall, he had a fantastic game and has being getting better each week since he was moved to the centre , it has always being the case that he is a utility player, I really believe that we need hall settled in to one position to get the best from him
His partnership with Johnstone seems to be developing really well and I hope Chester decides to keep them together, Miller, Jowitt, Hall and Johnstone work so well together. They not only have physical pace but seem to be able to mentally play the game mentally at the same pace too, Its very exciting to watch
I cant remember us ever having so much pace though, spesh down the left, theopposition can not handle our pace as it is blistering!

| Id go as far as to say, that if he could defend, he would have been an international by now and probably have never signed for us.
Due to this, i've always thought his best position was on the wing, but i can see why people (coaches and fans alike) want him closer to the action as he has the skills and brain to cause problems for teams.
Some of his defence on Sunday was horrible. Leg knock or not there is no excuse for a pro player flapping like he did.
Anyhow, moan over. We possibly/probably wouldn't have won without him. Just have to take the rough with the smooth with CH i think.

| Could say the same about Ashurst - the highlights show him at fault for two of their scores, due to feeble attempts at first contact; very few players are the total package and I guess the decision then is if the positives outweigh the negatives - and in both cases, right now, they probably do.

Ashurst got through hell of a lot of work and I agree defence is not his strongest asset but I think that may have been to fatigue. They're vulnerable on his side with Craig Hall shooting out most of the time.

Don't know if there was a bit of panic in the ranks on Sunday but, players broke from the defensive line a hell of a lot.
The golden rule being, if you break the line you must make contact or, at least close down the ball but, on a few occasions we did neither and it makes defending impossible for whoever is left.
It wasn't just Hall that broke ranks although it did seem to be our left side defence most of the time.

Just watched the DVD of the Warrington game and it is quite obvious that one of the coaching staff (possibly even Chezzie ??) is stood very close to the camera, as he can frequently be heard shouting out instructions to the trainers and also commenting on play.
On the Warrington play immediately prior to Hall's interception try, he can clearly be heard shouting "F***ing Hall, I wish he would stop running out for the interception !!"
Priceless

I must watch a different game to most?

Marker Tackles: 53

Seriously tho it's a great re-sign.

The stats are great, but they only tell half the story; for example, the number of tackles a player makes is bumped up if he's regularly the second or third man in. And missed tackles are interesting - what's more interesting is when, and what happened as a result.
I'm not criticising MA specifically - just suggesting that in pointing out Hall's flaws, the same could be said about others, including MA, who is everyone's new favourite.
Again - very few players are the total package, and sometimes I'm sure a coach accepts some flaws if overall, they are netted off by positive attributes.
