What a difference it makes when the forwards make some yards

Much improved performance from Smith today - showed what he can do when he gets a decent platform and his head is in the game.

That last try was a superb bit of skill.

Doesn't it, the hunger from everyone was impeccable out there can't fault anyone and with no lack of skill this week as well. Smith took the line on so often today and he caused no end of problems when he does it, he's got a good side step and a little bit of gas.

Embarrassed to say I cheered too; he had had a bit of a stinker, but today I eat humble pie, one error I can recall, the rest, the kicks, passes and general marshalling of the team was excellent so I'll take my pie and say well done Tim, more of that please.

...well they made a few more but it was still hard to punch our way out; Cas made yards far more easily the mjority of the time I thought. I wish we could find a couple of forwards who can make easy yards; we would be massively better if we did, I'm convinced of it.

Correct. Cas seemed to make more yards than us with their forwards seeming to run harder and with a couple of good forwards we'd be a far better side.

Credit where credits due though they toughed it out and in the second half I felt we looked the side more likely to win it although we did have a few heart stopping moments.

Tim Smith had a very good game and showed as I've been saying what a good player he is, particularly if his forwards give him a platform. Hopefully todays performance will do him and the Team a power of good and put some confidence back into the team for next week.

Yes we need a forward or two but i'm not sure its all down to Cas doing it better than us, they swarmed forward to meet us and we stood back and let them come, maybe thats a ploy used by the coaching staff but we did stand off.

That would explain some Cas players struglling later in the game, not saying its the right way to defend but today i think it showed in the end.

I'm sure Isaac John has quality but it needs coaching out a little I think. Paul Sykes certainly didn't let us down today and I think he has been an excellent signing.

Fair point, we did comment on it during the game. We put it down to our forwards not moving up quickly enough on them. Was it a ploy ? Who knows but we certainly looked stronger than them in the second half.

I may well be wrong but we did look stronger in the second half and thats possibly for the reasons i suggested, anyhow it turned out ok in the end.

Very pleased for Tim Smith, after the stick he's had. Just shows what he can do when he's got something to work with.

Very pleased for Richard Agar, who by his standards made a bold, and by this forum's standards a sensible move, in putting Sykes in for John. Maybe Washbrook and Cockayne would have seen us win by 50 (personally, I wouldn't have tinkered with the original combo till after the game, if we'd lost), but we got the win.

Great effort from all the lads today. I'm a happy camper. It's going to be a good weekend over here.

What a difference playing with a 6 with a go forward attitude makes.
For all Sykes wasn't perfect he went forward with the ball allowing a smith time and space to play a very good game.
His try was superb and showed what he is capable of, a bit more of this and though's who booed him off last week may be feeling a bit embarrassed.

I thought he had possibly his best game with us (bar the kick out on the full) and I thought he worked very well with Sykes - hopefully we shall see this next week. Did anyone notice Chase crawling out of Smith's pocket at FT - Mellar's try should remind to look where he is passing! Also thought Kyle Wood was much better defensively, and Andy Raleigh had his best game to date. On to next week!
