Sorry vaty I wasn't aiming at you really.
All I was saying is that until he does drop them to the 17 we can't complain he isn't picking them. If he does then he'll live by his selection.

Mariano did get a game against HKR and had a bit of a mare so I can see why he dropped down the pecking order.
But in all fairness to Ellis he hasn't had the chance to show us anything and he never will till he gets a game. There are only four or five players in that 19 who I believe have earned the right to keep their shirts for a long period the rest have done nothing to justify their continued selection. So on this one I am in the give Ellis a game camp.

Tell you what mable you have read my mind.
The first five I'd go with, these are the names I had in mind.
Mathers and Washy not so sure but not that bad either if you want give them benefit of doubt and make it 7
Did not include Ali for the simple reason he is out of the reckoning due to an injury.

You mean why should Wood or Aiton make way when they have been playing well, don't you ?
Those two desreve their shirts, I would go with what others are suggesting,Aiton to loose and Washbrook to second row.
Kirmond as one of our best players gets a game as he is head and shoulders above the three in the squad who purport to be centres and thats where he should play.

Add Cockayne to that list, but thats about your lot, nowhere near enough consistancy from the rest.
I'm starting to get really disappointed with Foxy. He's ok going forward, but way off the mark either in tackling or taking the high ball and we are shipping too many tries beacause of this.

Making the point to NGBC that you can't on the one hand say you've seen nowt from Trout and then on the other hand demand Ellis get's picked - because as you say he's an unknown quantity as is Trout. NGBC only backs named players, seems to absolutely hate any player who is a: Local b: Come up through the Academy c: Isn't a Samaon d: is a forward under 6"10 and thus a midget.
What is really obvious to me is that Agar has decided his best team and appears he will not make any changes other than forced changes. Whether this is a good or bad thing is yet to be proved - so far not so good.
What I will say is it's the polar opposite to JK who never seemed to know what his best team was, and was at his worst when he had a full squad to select from.

John and Mellars to miss out for me. If Collis isn't fit then put Mellars in, but I personally don't think Mellars has done enough to justify a place. I would go for Wood at scrum half (his best position), and that would mean that John or Smith has to be dropped.'"
Why does everyone seem to think Wood is best in the halves? From what i saw of him in the halfs at hudds he was average and from what ive seen of him at hooker so far this season hes been absoloutley outstanding ! I have also been told that the guy himself prefers hooker to the halves.

| SALFORD CITY REDS SQUAD
Patten, Broughton, Gleeson, Moon, Williams, Holdsworth, Smith, Jewitt, Godwin, McPherson, Ashurst, Adamson, Wild, Sidlow, Paleaaesina, Nero, Howarth, Gibson, James.
Probably the strongist squad we've had to pick from this season. No exuses now, we must win!

but that is a frustration of mine that last year people moaned that we had too many pivots on the field, yet now want Aiton at loose to accommodate another hooker.
Although Aiton is a special case, with Washnrook being a pivot type back row I don't really like it. BUT I'm not so against it that I'd say no, just that it worries me. I'd rather have big running second rowers like Ali and Kirmond, or a tackling machine like Southern with either Aiton or Washbrook at loose.
Unfortunately Aiton and Washbrook are on form and must be picked somewhere.......which in my opinion pushes Wood or Ellis out..........and I like Wood.
So its then a toss up between John and Ellis......it goes on.
I'm all for finding the best team but at the moment, I'd like a consistent team.

| I'm not bothered who plays, as long as we end up with 2 points.
I hope the players are as hungry as we all are, they should be eating raw meat for the next 2 days, with the peomise of Nandos, only if we win !

| Going back to some people asking about Johnson. Some of the Cod eds are still saying he's signed for Hull for next year. Maybe this is Agars way of saying if not loyal to the cause then you will be used as a backup player and only used when we really need him. Has anyone got confirmation that he hasn't signed for them?

Yes I agree, was that a one off or are all the other games his true worth ?
Anyhow just had a quick look at the stats and Raleigh,Aiton and Washbrook are way infront of him as 'tackling machines'.
You and me are probabaly at the stage where we only accept what we witness with our own eyes and are well past the days where we buy all the hype and crap about what players are supposed to be before they arrive at the club.
Its what they deliver in a Trinity shirt that counts for me.

| I must say I don't rate trout on what I have seen and I'm not sure he has what it takes to be a SL regular.
Can't see him offering anything other than a solid SL player at best.
Despite that I don't believe he has fully had the chance at SL level yet. Hopefully my opinion is proved wrong.

TBF they have all spent a hell of a lot more time on the field than he has.
This game looks like one of those classics we get absolutely murdered in; on Sky and against a side we should have a chance against. I wouldn't be surprised if we got niled

Trout is still very young for a forward. I have been watching him a number of years and I think he has what it takes. I don't know how far he'll go in the game and like you I believe he may just make a good honest clubman. But we need those types of player especially when they are your own.

You and i have seen many tackles over the years and its not hard to rack up a few tackles, some players hurt players when they tackle others don't.
I would suggest that while they all count i would rather be hit by some and avoid others if i could. I reckon that although he's not set the world a light yet Southern falls into the latter.
It seems he's not 100% right yet for whatever reason but i think a fully fit and focused Southern is something that i look forward to seeing.

As far as the stats are concerned, is it still the case that 3rd man in gets credited with the tackle too? If so, it's not really a tackle stat, is it? As you say, the poor bugger who does the bone crunching gets no more credit than the last one to flop on top.
