| Quote ="rovers"Featherstone are awaiting planning on there massive ground re-developments, which should be given in a few weeks. They include moving the pitch towards the railway end, extending both stands at the pitch side the full length and covered terraces at both ends, wouldnt Wakey be much better off sharing with us, the work is due to start Winter 2011. The money will come from Doctors and Dental surgeries being built on some land behind the railway end'"
What date was the planning application received by the council? and what is the Application No.? I would be interested to look at the proposals.

Correct. It's been stated time and again that our only hope of strengthening the club and competing on a more equal footing with the richer clubs was the move to Newmarket. Without this, and with our present structure, we have no long term, or even short term SL future, IMO.

| I could be wrong here.
But dont i recall with regards the sale of our ground -- some connection to Sport England??
That the ground could only be sold upon condition that Trinty had firstly secured a new home to play from??

| Quote ="wildcat13"After reading about gh over the weekend I write knowing that I will probably get a slating but its all about opinions,so here goes.I personally am not against a groundshare but believe in the long term we would disappear if we went to gh.If this is the only option for us to stay in sl I would prefer we dropped into the championship where the rugby is entertaining as alot of it is kids wanting to prove themselves. Also add to this we may win some games, may not get tonked every other game and I would not go to games wondering by how many we are going to lose by.If we face facts while we are in sl we are never going to win anything,we are just there to make up the numbers and eventually we will be kicked out cos richard lewis, gary hetherington and co dont want us there. This may sound negative but all this fighting is not good and I believe wakefield need to survive in their own right. We cant compete in sl financially and with the board we have, believe this will not change.Feel free to start slating.'"
Thats also my view if Cas had to go to NM, no slating here mate , well said

| I have no problems with sharing a ground, I just feel Glass Houghton is the beginning of a merger and the loss of identity for sporting Wakefield.
Myself and many others I know are in favor of sharing Oakwell with Barnsley FC, just not sure how viable it is. If it was done properly, there would be scope for increasing crowds at both Wakefield rugby league and Barnsley football games. If there was some incentive regarding season tickets/entrance fees, I'd probably go watch a few Barnsley games and that's coming from someone who gets bored senseless at just the thought of watching 90 minutes of football! No doubt it could work the other way.

| I could live with either Barnsley or Glasshoughton. In the long term Barnsley might be the best option as if a big effort went in to promoting the club in the local schools I could see new fans coming. Problem is if attendances drop off and we have rent to pay plus lose ancillary income streams such as refreshments, corporate etc then might mean the club become unviable in the short term. Also, the fact we are called Wakefield Wildcats may also put Barnsley folk off watching someone else's team.

| Barnsley has a good few amateur sides and no proffessional team to follow, You may pick up some of these but will it be as many who wouldnt make the short trip tp Oakwell ???
Both clubs are shafted by the RFL but i am so glad i am Cas , at least we still have the old ground.
I wish you lot all the luck in the world if NM goes tits up, I would welcome you to share GH (if it happens) but fear it would be the begining of the end for both clubs and in 2 years we will be arguing over the name of the RFL's new mongrel club..................
Scary times

| Surely it is best to keep wakey going in some shape or form. One club either us or cas is going to go out of business if we share and I believe nobody wants that.I also believe that ted richardson and co have not got the bottle for a fight re.brough saga, rolled over and has their bellies tickled, but I do think that mr wright and box do and they will win hands down.Result-end of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Unsure what date or number but know a decision is imminent, there was a public viewing at the chestneys centre in Fev last week, if you look on the Rovers website there is more info. Put it this way it is very feasible that the ground will have a complete refurb by the time of the next licences

| I went to see Keighley play Widness a few weeks back.
Keighley were awful, the ground is a tip (miles worse than ours) the crowd was poor and the meat & potato pie was all spud.... but I loved it.
There are far worse placed to be than the Championship.
Apathy is killing our SL status and I personally don't think a shiny new stadium will cue that.... if it happens then I will stand corrected but I would hate for us to get a 10k stadium and only get 4000 vs Quins.

| Why merge? Why not drop the Wakefield name and move forward just as the Wildcats? You could move to Barnsley until the current financial downturn abates, re-bulid by winning a franchise and dropping the Aussie imports in favour of local lads (Wakefield district) who would attract support from friends/ family, then look to secure a ground in Wakefield in the future when your finances are sorted. Also by dropping the Wakefield name you have more chance of attracting new supporters from the Barnsley area. What have you got to lose?

Not being funny mate but I can't find a planning application number are you sure you've got it right.
Also last time I was talking to the council they did confirm that some ground improvements were going on. However it was hardly cutting edge stuff as they said rovers had asked for an handout to buy two old second hand stands from Scarborough football ground.

Just been told the club get there answer in October, there was a public viewing last week as i say.
Rovers have got the same deal as both Cas and Wakey regards the land to loan 2 million off i think this money will kick start it. Dont know about the stands from Scarborough but i do know the mccaine stadium is derelict now and awaiting demolition, that is apart from 2 fairly new and in excellent nick modular cantilever stands, that im sure would fit neatly behind each goal at Post office road. Who knows? what i do know is in 18 months time post office road will be a fit for purpose neat ground
