| Quote ="Inflatable_Armadillo"Just to add something else to this thread, one of things that lots of people seem not to be questioning is HMRC's role and whether they have got things right and acted in a reasonable manner?
My own recent dealings with HMRC have proven to me that they are just as prone to making errors as any of the millions of companies they deal with.
I won't bore you with the full details but I have spent the last couple of months amicably disputing what they think was a £46 short-fall in the corporation tax my company owed. The long and short of it is that in the end I decided to concede and pay the additional £46 (I still they they are wrong BTW) because the cost of continuing to dispute it would outweigh such a small amount owed . So just under a month ago I paid them by electronic transfer. I was therefore just a little surprised to come home from holiday to find not one, but two letters, dated just 2 days apart, threatening me with the bailiff's for not paying them. Apparently their records say I haven't paid... they are of course wrong.
So they do make mistakes as well and are far from perfect themselves!'"
IMO they make lots of mistakes, some small, some large. I am currently disputing with them over something as simple as my tax code. I have been in the same job for ages, with no real recent changes to my personal or work situation yet have had 5 different tax codes in the last 9 months. Each time they change it it is because the previous one had been calculated incorrectly.
I know this is not exactly the same thing but it just shows how poor their systems are that they cannot get this right. They have all the information but keep changing their assessment of the situation.
I'm not saying that the club have not made an oversight, they obviously have from the press releases put out, but it could quite easily be on the back of a mistake/re-assessment of liabilities made by HMRC in the first place.

| Quote ="Sandal Cat"Charlie, when I first read this thread I was as concerned as anyone. I've been through this situation many times before so yes I was worried. James Elston contacted me before I could contact him and explained how the situation arose but because of the sensitive nature and the bodies involved it cannot be aired in public.
Am I satisfied with the explanation and the fact that I've been told that the "debt" has been paid - well I have to be, I have no reason not to at this point in time. I have heard from people that we are experiening cash flow issues and that creditors are not being paid but at the moment they are just "tales" - I've been hearing the same stories for the last 30 years or more - they may be true, they may not, I don't know.
All I know is that the current regime have been doing what seems to me to be an excellent job up to this set back. If we are experiencing financial difficulties there is nothing you are I can do about as we have no shareholders in the Club, something the Trust had hoped would be offered to fans when Andrew Glover took over so that Supporters could have a stake in the Club and a say in how its run. That still remains an aim of the Trust.
If the Club is in financial difficulties and not paying bills and creditors it will eventually be "found out" but up to that point I'm prepared to give Andrew Glover & James Elston the benefit of the doubt both as Chairman of the Trust, a Sponsor and Fan in my own right and if Trust Members feel that the Trust should not be supporting the Club I'm happy to stand down and let someone else do the job.
All businesses experience set backs, its how they deal with those set backs that defines them.'"
Thinking logically about that it would be very hard to imagine the club has found itself in money troubles after just 18 months or so. Add to that we've just had a very successful season on and off the pitch and in the first season AG was here we obviously had a low salary due to player quality and had a decent enough attendance. If there is money troubles we'd have seen signs of it around the place, with player's not getting signed with the likes of Amor, Sykes and Poore going elsewhere . AG even spoke about the importance of running the company as a viable business in the early bird advert, where he talks about wanting to know what money we have to spend next season and not wanting to spend money we haven't got, so it's very hard to imagine anything more than a cock-up.

| I agree. It is saying somethingw hen we have fans from other clubs coming on being the voice of reason too.
Its happened and been solved. No more to say.
No one else cares but the longer we go on about it the more likely it will be picked up again.

I have been told the reason and because of the sensitive nature and the bodies involved it cannot be made public. There is nothing underhand or sinister and as I have said previously only time will tell whether the Club's finances are in order or not but at the moment I am content what I have been told.
I think its time to move on and let the matter lie.

| looking at the need to suport our club first and the need for transparancy ...it is allways a fine dividing line.on what people should know and what is best for the club at this time.
On one hand the drive for membership and for oct ? ( desperate need for cash?)
official version arnt we doing well with all our new members?
The unthought through statement that it was" just a mistake we ended up with a winding up order "
Is it a mistake that the club now has a C.C.J.( County court judgement for £8500 pound as well?)
Which can only have an adverse effect on our credit rating and at the same time if we continue down this path our next application for a super league licence.
Please please Spirit of 1873 sort out.

Oh you've done it now. Big Alf will be on a mission for rest of week searching the appropriate news outlets to uncover this latest bit of negativity. Expect an update on the Cas forum anytime soon.
Unless of course its just a load off old garbage!

| You have to wonder who it is that sits trawling for these bad news stories about us and trying to de rail the good things that are happening at the club. Is it someone with a grudge against the club or someone from a rival club. I hear other clubs are in much worse financial position than ours

I don't really mind the stories coming to light. What really upsets me is how the cock-ups happen in the 1st place. If this episode is down to some individual not doing their job then they ought to be disciplined.
Also. The issue was 1st publicised on TotalRL.com by a poster "South Wakefield Sharks". What sort of grudge have they got?

It was first published on the cas forum by alcasfan/bigalf then put straight on here then spread like wild fire on all RL forums while bigalf sat back with a sticky keyboard. Some cas fans are desperate for us to have negative publicity that's how desperate they are sad but true. Thing is we're in a lot better state than them from what I hear. He who laughs last laughs loudest and all that.

| Okay, this thread is doing the Club no good at all and continuing it in the way we are is playing straight into the hands of those who do not wish the Club well and wish it to fail and I fear that some of our own fans (if indeed they are fans) fall into that category also.
I've been assured that the HMRC issue was a misunderstanding and has been dealt with. The other issues raised have also been dealt with satisfactorily and that the Club is trading as normal. Anyone who is is business knows that cash flow is always an issue. You need your debtors to pay you in order that you can pay your creditors, that is how it is, its normal business practice.
The Club is sound, it's not going under which will be a disappointment to some, so can we now end this thread and look forward to hearing some good news shortly, whether thats achieving the Membership Target or player news.
As I have said, nothing more to see here, now lets move on.

| something very fishy here
so the club is saying there is nothing to worry about and they get monthly visits from HMRC because of whats happened before.
if that is the case how come this has been missed, surely if HMRC were coming every month they would of brought this to the clubs attention.
seems the club is telling you what they want you to hear
and why have a go at adeybull, he was merely stating a fact, wasnt trying to be funny about anything, or is it a case of ' we know our club is lying to us so we will go on the attack to anybody that comments'

| I have to smile. Some folks on here have taken knicker twisting to a whole new level! In the space of three days we've gone from, "Together we are stronger" to, "We're doomed I tell ye. We're all doomed!!"
The club has issued a statement - it was an oversight, a mistake and it's all been dealt with. Nobody else seems too worried about it. It's just been on the news that Salford's winding up hearing has been rearranged but I didn't hear any reports that Trinity are in financial straits. Just let the people who run the club get on with it - they sem to be doing a pretty good job generally. And as for all the posters saying that the mistake should never have been made in the first place - I agree but the self righteous criticism should be the preserve of those on here who have never made a mistake themselves..... mmmh, I thought so.
Right - I'm going online to buy two season tickets for next year.

you have to admit its strange if HMRC are there every month and the club are saying its an oversight, but as adeybull got attacked for merely pointing out a fact, im sure you will struggle to get your head out of the sand and do likewise to me

| could quite easily be HMRC error rather than the club - they sent the Bailiffs round to a client's premises for late interest payable of £17 last week, however this had already been paid but was lost in their system. Just shows how HMRC apply common sense these days
Unfortunately HMRC tend to take action and ask questions later in the current climate so this situation could have arisen for a number of reasons.
