Please don't get me wrong. I don't want him to go I think he is a good player. Playing for Leeds may make him a great player. I just want to see him playing in the back row or lose forward rather than dummy half.

Don't think he will be a better player if he goes to Leeds. Will just look better due to the better players round him at Leeds

You don't have to buy into it. It's what I saw on the field and formed my opinion. Aiton is a good player but for the bulk of mid season did not play to his strengths enough (running from dummy half). It's only when the season close came in he started doing what he does best again.

I like Aiton, he's hard as nails. A good defender, good runner from DH. But his distribution is shakey and laboured from the floor. This is justified by the amount if times he threw needless forward passes and adds to the fact we just don't get the ball accross the line fast enough like most other teams.

I'm not bagging him, I like him but with the situation and the value he offers we could do reasonably well out of a deal. If he stays he'll need to show more consistency in playing to his strengths for me. He was like a man possessed at the end of season with his runs.

Yes he did get the awards etc but id say that would be more down to his defensive qualities.

And top 1/2 no chance. Kirmond and Armor easily took those spots. For me he's 3/4 th best we have at the club along with collis.

Anyway, If he stays then great. If not I hope we can pull a decent deal out of him.

I hope RA and MC have some new players lined up and that they will be announced after the world cup.
Our squad for next season could make the squad in Kear's last season look like world beaters !

Never thought I would say this, but after 50 yrs of supporting wakey I have never been more disillusioned. Normally I'm chomping aat the bit for the start of the season, but not this year. (By the way I bought my season ticket as soon as they were announced.)

I would suggest you bring a pair of boots to the opening fixture, you may lack pace and ability but you'll have to do.

I'm still looking forward to it. I think we will have a squad of 25 or so next year.

There will be some wheeling and dealing to be done no doubt. Some exits and new signings probanly last of all but we will have a full team next year.

50 years. you'll have seen all the downs and the odd up.

What will be will be and we'll just have to make the best of it, it does wear you down but remember the good times

and that'll keep you going.

It may not help but its a fact that some fans have walked away from the club because of how its been abused by our dear friends recently departed.

Maybe more people ought to be pointing the finger at the real reasons why we are in this mess and why some are not renewing season tickets.

I have tried to convince several fans to renew for the sake of the clubs future but they've had enough, times are hard and its not a priorty for them anymore.

In that case it's gonna be a self fulfilling prophesy!
Sit back and wait to see what sort of team we're gonna be fielding and one things for sure it's gonna be a long hard season!

Whatever is said on this forum Aiton has weaknesses as most players do but he is still one of the best hookers that Wakefield have had for a number of years and he will be badly missed in the middle of the park next season. Best of luck to him.



We now don't have a genuine hooker in the squad. Hopefully WTW manage this carefully and ensure that a revolving door announcement is made for Aiton with a reputable signing coming in such as Liam Hood with Wildie being re-signed.

Yes if Aiton goes we need an experienced hooker to hook the ball out of the scrum.

And a scrum half that rolls the ball into the centre of the "tunnel" between the 2 pack of forwards

Quite...the good old days Brian Briggs Ghost when you were a lad...Think Aiton would run rings around Alan Mccurry, Nigel Bell and Billy Conway if they had their time again. I accept your point the game has changed though and in this area not for the better.

Hooker is a misnomer. No such position nowadays, merely an extra halfback.

I don't think Aiton would last more than 20 minutes playing against any of the three players you mentioned.

Difficult to compare players from different era's, but I don't think he would have run rings McCurrie. With todays full time training, conditioning etc, Mac would be sensational

Kath Hetherington probably part of the deal (Leeds paying consultancy deal) - hope you pick up a couple of better than average players in return and hope Mr Carter is making progress with the black hole.

I really like Aiton,but to say he would run rings round McCurrie, Belly and Billy is ridiculous.
Its the old chestnut of past v present,relevant to any sport.
The greats of the past fast forwarded to today would benefit from all of todays modern methods of development and been even better.
Or perhaps they may even have had that touch of individualism coached out of them.
