Probably because we've always employed amateurs in the marketing postions. Mind you I imagine they have sod all budget to work with anyway.

Said at the time the money used for the TV ads would be better served promoting the club within the City.
The bill boards is a simple but effective idea. Even the Cathedral School has utilised this method. A few well placed bill boards around the city, perhaps with a massive picture of a number of the players, similar to what they have in the touchline bar, would certainly grab peoples attention. Stick the season ticket offer information on as well. All in all I imagine, ratio wise much cheaper than 30 seconds of prime time TV in getting more people to the ground.

| I phoned up and ordered a ticket/gold membership on the first day of the offer, and duly got a £100 charge on my credit card bill.
Now, a month later, I have received an email from the club confirming my Gold Membership. Not sure whether to a) get excited - target hit, no £75 bill coming my way! Or b) shake my head at the predictability of WTW taking a month to acknowledge my pledge and continue hoping (as unlikely as it is) that we will hit the target...

| Would be nice to get the city centre covered in red white and blue. Massive flags, banners and bill boards everywhere. All comes down to money, though.

You would think that our wonderful Council might help with something like that, to mark the fact that a local, self-made businessman has taken over the [ucity's[/u only professional sports club and not only rescued it from extinction, but guaranteed a further three years in the top flight, putting the city on the national sporting stage.
Not to mention promoting sport and healthy lifestyles to kids and other communities throughout the [ucity[/u, aswell as getting women and girls involved through dance and touch rugby.
Not to mention working his nuts off to provide the [ucity[/u with a world class sporting facility.
Not to mention, in a time of recession and rising unemployment, providing jobs both within the club and it's supply chain and associated businesses within the [ucity.[/u
I wonder if there's a particular reason for WMDC's apathy towards the club that does all of the above things...?

| Quote ="bren2k"They're horrible anyway - they look low rent and chatty.
We should get some of those massive bill-boards in strategic places - the ones that Eric France has, until recently, been plastering with scantily clad ladies; they certainly grab the attention.
I'd also invest in a couple of those tow-along boards - stick them on the back of vehicles on weekends and drive them around town, parking in high volume areas for periods of time, them moving on. If you want to be radical, there's even a Leeds based company that featured on Dragons Den last year - they hire out electronic ones that can be towed on a bicycle - few of those round Wakefield city centre on a weekend are bound to grab attention; they're green and healthy too, so a good fit with a sports business.
It's not, as they say, rocket science.'"
I saw an Eric France poster on the back of a bus

A radio advert with a week to go? It should've been relentless promotion from the launch of the offer.

The Club are giving the fans a chance to purchase a season pass for £100 FFS, maybe we could have done a bit more in the infancy of the deal like hand flyers out in Wakey express, have flyers in Fast food outlets like Subway and Mcd's, and stick a few posters on back of the free bus that wizzes round wakey ever 5 min's, but those who are still waiting for the 2500 to get them before you dig deep my message is get down to Belle vue before Sat or we will all end up paying an extra £75 quid, we can only make WTW a force if the fans get behind the club, we all have ideas of how to improve marketing but the best way to show your support is dig deep and give the Club money to bring in Players to bring back the good time to Belle Vue....

Same here . Felt the support from the Huddersfield public was poor last night , but if we can't sell 2500 tickets at £100, well quite frankly thats pathetic .
Obviously the people of Wakefield just don't care anymore & have found other things to do .

But that's the thing, the club could and should have done a hell of a lot more to tell people who don't visit this site or the official one. The converted already know about the offer. Where are the big posters around the city? Where's the much-loved TV ad now? Where's the big launch in the city centre?
(I don't think it helped when 'the club' said we're not getting Agar as coach and then did. Remember, the main charge against previous regimes at this club was lying and keeping information back. Now, I understand that Agar was under contract, but the best response they should have given at that time was to say they were looking at a number of coaches, but in respect to their contracts, and clubs, they wouldn't confirm or deny any names.)

I keep banging on about this, but I am convinced you are wrong, and those who are holding out because they don't want to be asked to pay an extra £75 are daft. The deal on the website quoted £100 as the price, and said it had to be paid "in full". There is not one single word on any of the flyers or website that suggests you will be asked for any more money after you have paid "in full".
It has come about because of the slightly confusing language in the initial letter, and I wasn't exactly sure when I first read it, but this misconception may have cost the club quite a few tickets.
If I am wrong, however, the club is in really sticky waters with Trading Standards. You can't advertise a price as a price "in full", as a time-limited offer, and then ask for more. For example, a business couldn't accept full payment on double-glazing on an agreed quote, and once it's been in the bank for a couple of months, turn around and say that you can't have the windows until you hand over nearly double the money.

| I think those who are saying 'It is only £100' are missing the point. A lot of people are struggling to afford that amount of cash right now, and even if they have that cash available, with the jobs market so unsteady at the moment may feel uneasy to part with the money a few months before Christmas, especially as there is uncertainty at present whether it is £100 or will rise to £175. I think the offer would reach nearer 3500 rather than 2500 if it was extended to Christmas, that would give folk to budget for the expense.

| I would expect the ST sales by Xmas to reach the 3500 as you say.
That is only if it remains at the price it is now. Add to that the shirt sales around Xmas time with the £10 off for ST holders.
Should be kept as it is. It will all work out over the Xmas period with a bit of presence in the town/ridings and trinity walk.
By seasons start I would hope we break the 4000 barrier.
