Nowt wrong with Labour it's these Thatcher/ Blairites whose creed is greed and stuff you Jack that's given a once proud party a bad name. Box and those that kow tow to him are examples of that ilk. I'm a strong Socialist through and through but what these so-called Labourites have done to this once proud city and its sporting heritage is downright criminal. Get the lot out as soon as possible and bring in true Labour politicians that will actually do something for ALL the citizens of Wakefield and not just a few over t'other side of the Common.

How come WMDC can't do their bit for Wakefield Trinity, Fev AND Cas, but provide golfing, swimming and gym facilities at whatever cost to just a few? How much did the new leisure facility on Sun Lane cost?

Agree, but it will never happen, they chose the line of work they do because a days proper work would kill them. Having heard the so called labour MPs over the last 20 year promising this and that to save mine and my colleagues jobs I wouldn't believe them if they said night followed day. Just a few? I think if you did research on this your logic is flawed, helping the RL clubs with around 15000 fan who have to pay for the priviledge of watching their team compared to facilities basically open everyday that all 330,000 citizens can acees at a fee thats why!

Don't think you can say that but he has certainly ensured that their project gets as much assistance as possible. Was it Aldi who were refused permission to bring a supermarket and jobs to the locality because it might jeopardize the development? Unfortunately he hasn't shown anywhere near the same commitment to the Wakefield project. It's bad enough for Wakefield City in general that the District council is weighted heavily in favour of the non-city wards but Boxes personal interest in Castleford RLFC means he actually wants Wakefield Trinity to fail!

Out of curiosity, I wonder out of the 330,000, roughly how many actually use the facilities.

Earlier in 2016, I was a member of Exercise 4 Less, along with my wife, and was wanting to add swimming into our exercise.

After pricing it all up, places like Total FItness and Nuffield were coming out cheaper

It is the attitude of the council, in particular Box, that is really annoying people, to put it mildly.
No one expects a new stadium for Trinity to be council funded, but there does n't even seem to be any spirit of cooperation, appreciation of our plight, or care about the heritage re. Wakefield Trinity.
All that of course leads to frustration, speculation and questioning of the motives of some of the council members, who are supposedly elected to care about the welfare of its citizens.
That welfare should include nurturing the heritage of the city Rugby league club which is in itself , under difficult circumstances , playing its part in the education, fitness, and equality of its citizens.

Wakefield: 1/3 of children in school year 6 (10/11 year old) are obese, it's the largest city without a professional football team, no professional rugby union, and a professional rugby league team who are planning on leaving the area. I wonder if there's a link

I don't just pin this on the council, although they play a huge part in it. Another part of the problem is that the good people of Wakefield are happy to travel to other towns/cities to watch live sport, now I've nothing against that what so ever, but those clubs which Wakefield people pay into will only support their local community. Barnsley football club won't go out of their way to run football sessions at schools in Wakefield. They've no interest in helping our community and I can't blame them either when they can help their own.

The work that the Trinity community team does in Wakefield is amazing, they really get kids engaged with sport. Imagine how great it would be if we could also have a football club, a union club, a cricket club etc getting our kids involved in sport.

The perfect place for that to happen would be in a true community stadium

there's not s fit for purpose stadium to watch live sport in the City of Wakefield. The council has shown no interest in making the stadium happen. Why is this? Why let York Court get away with this? #highcourt

The bigger issue is that the good people of Wakefield tend to travel to other cities to work. Wakefield has become a dormitory town feeding areas that have grown as Wakefield has shrunk. The City has been losing it's status and identity ever since the creation of the MDC behemoth.

I know some posts have made political references, and if Beagle is changing from Labour, I can measure the anger there alone.
I grew up with this working class/ working men/ Labour party, Daily Mirror stuff and naturally never voted Labour, I have run my own business for 35 years and consider myself a working man. People are 100% correct in not voting for a party who have offended them deeply, whatever colour. Brexit alone is an example.
If Mr. Box has done something politically wrong, or something illegal , I just do not understand that he cannot be taken to task. He must answer to someone. This has been rumbling for years and I have no idea where the Trust members get their energy from. Why has he not been reported, or has he.

Those 15000 fans attending a minimum 12 matches per season equates to 180,000 attendances. How many of those 330,00 that you mention actually attend these other facilities. I don't know anybody that swims at Sun Lane, attends the gym at Sun Lane or plays golf at Lupset. I don't begrudge contributing to any of these out of my £970/year council tax for those who want to make use of these facilities, but I would imagine none of them are profit-making for WMDC.
