I'm still hoping we've landed Gentle as Head Coach, but I can't convince myself - I keep thinking that Nobby is Wakefield bound.

I'd be happy with any of those. JD was on the radio a few weeks back though saying he had another 12 month contract that he would honour.

According to Andrew Glover on Twitter the new Coach still not signed up as they are still working on it but should be clearer after the weekend.

If JD, N.Wright and Poching have been interviewed for the assistants job - doesn't that mean you have signed the head coach already ?

Why is it? that assistant coaches in Aus are deemed as worth their weight in gold yet everyone seems to think the ones over here are not ready yet. I would much rather give one of our young coaches a shot at head coach and be seen as a pioneer club than take an Aussie on apprenticeship until he gets offered a head coaches job back home. With the exception of Smith and Maguire no other coach has had any success over here,and by success I mean actually won something.Give me Powell as head coach with Wright as assistant and see what happens.

Be surprised if Poaching left Wire for the same role at Wakey.

Apparently Adrian Lam has left his coaching role at the Dragons, reason rumoured was 'PNG business interests' but could be guess work and he's got a full SL job?

Yesterday morning Lam was signed, sealed and delivered as cas coach. Yesterday evening he wasn't coaching anywhere next year, do try and keep up!

It will be interesting to see how this 15 head coach structure works at Cas

It will seen as we are sharing at least 4/5 of them with cas!

Although I agree with the "spirit" of what you are saying, the "letter" is not accurate. There have been plenty of successful overseas coaches in SL. It would be a shorter list to show the GB ones.

Poptart, I was talking about present Super league coaches, and I still don't buy this Australian is best at all costs theory. We don't look to see whats on our doorstep enough.

We can see what's on our doorstep and they're all miles behind their Aussie counterparts - McNamara, McDermott, Kear, Powell, Agar. Compare to Maguire, Simmons, Brown & Robinson for example, and you can see why there is so much stock placed in Aussie coaches.

I genuinely don't think it's a blinkered 'Aus is best' mentality - rather, that the game and consequently the coaching methods and associated sports science are significantly ahead over there and as such, Australian really is best at the present time.

Like you, I'd like to see us be a bit more forward thinking, which is why I think we should appoint an Aussie as HC to bring some of their modern methods and mentality to WTW, but with a British assistant working to a genuine succession plan, to take over in 3 years; during that time, the HC would be expected to train and mentor them and even open up opportunities for them to spend some time in Aus, on a 'work experience' type deal.

As much as I admire the sentiment in your post, I don't want us to be another Quins - that poor lad is totally out of his depth. We can't afford to chuck away this last gasp SL opportunity by appointing a coach because he's someone's mate, is cheap or because we think British is best; we need a ruthless, highly-skilled, hard-nosed winner.

I am going to regret saying this, however here goes Brown, Simmons, Morgan and Matterson have won nothing, yes two of them are challenging but no trophies. You don't get remembered for being second or nearly there. Maguire came, as do most of the Aussie coaches in to a team with a bottomless pit of money and a good playing roster. I may be wrong here, however when has an Aussie coach walked into a team languishing at the bottom and had sustained success, or any success.We can't afford to grow slowly because we need results for the next round of franchising but if we grow too quickly it will be difficult to sustain and we might find ourselves right back where we started. It's not a secret how Australians coach so why does it need an Aussie to do it.
