| Quote ="Wildcatfan"Great news ! Looking forward to watching him play......
Is it me or are there 1 or 2 posters on our forum - who you would suggest are Wakefield fans - yet having nothing but negative things to say ????
I dont need to mention names - if you read through this topic they stand out a mile !
With every bit of good news, its met with doom and gloom and to be honest its doing my head in !
Are you really WTW fans or just on here pretending to be ???
'"
Do you mean me?
If so, I havent said anything particularly negative - only that he is (at the moment) another second rate import and I don't have anything to base this being a "good signing" or "great news" in particular. I'm not going top get into a 'who's the biggest fan' debate, but if you want to debate rugby like a grown up I am more than happy to do it with you or anybody else.
Why do we need another import on top of the mediocre imports we already have (Korkidas, Hendo, Smith, Tony etc)? We are rubbing along quite nicely at the moment picking up the odd win here and there, why do we need an import? We have bolstered the squad already recently with Higgins and McArthy and secured Amor for a bit longer - we also have King and Gledhil to come into the side, why not look at taking a punt on somebody from the lower league, why not give one of the youngsters a chance?
Maybe instead of being 'negative' I could start a thread complaining about Quins by giving away free tickets, or moaning about how the RFL want us out and how the franchise system is all bent.....

I would love to see this also. We've all been waiting for the club to recruit a SH yet all this time we may have had a little gem already at the club. I hope he is given the necessary exposure in order to develop into the player his potential has indicated he could be.

If you are talking about me (I reckon so after the thread yesterday) if you look back you will notice I have been very positive about how we are doing really well with the group of players we have this year and how the players, despite not being the classiest, are giving much more effort than recent teams with much more skill and how they deserve praise for never giving in.
I have also said how the new regeime have made many changes for the better and how noticable it is.
Anyway - back to the matter in hand, sorry.....

| I believe Amors loan period ends after tonights game. Would guess we'll try to extend it til Hickey arrives at the very least, though i'd be more than happy if he signed up for the season.

| Welcome to Wakefield Jarrad Hickey, I am sure you will go well and compliment our other forwards.
Personally I am excited about his signing because I think he is the type of unit we need. Things were unfortunate last season when we couldn't retain Charlie for obvious financial reasons.
Like has been said on here, Trout is doing nothing and really needs to pull his finger out. Championship One is looming for him, nevermind Championship!
I am also hopeful that Matty Wildie will get more opportunity to prove his worth, i personally feel he is a better option than Gareth Moore or Liam Finn etc.
Back to Hickey again, as far as im aware he has been doing his own training and is well conditioned however it is to be hoped that fans will give him a bit of time to build up his match fitness and his confidence with plays and game plans before tarnishing him as a 'second rate' aussie failure.....come on Wakefield!

Yes, me too. Reckon they might have him back for the Easter period though - deffo if they pick up any more injuries in the pack. Would be a shame as he has been a fairly solid, if unspectacular for us.
Kind of backs up my point though, there are decent enough domestic players out there one way or another that would probably be cheaper than an import.

| Some people are withholding judgement on Hickey until they see how he performs; that's reasonable, but in describing that position, some posters come across as negative or cynical. I guess that could be down to posting style or tone, or the fact that they are actually negative and cynical?
Anyhow, I would probably have been more comfortable with another young British prospect and a season long loan for Amor, but we can't always get what we want; there is every chance that Hickey will add significant value to our rapidly strengthening pack IF he's here to play. Given that we may actually find ourselves with a pack that's able to build a decent platform, we may well see the best of BJ or even create the right conditions for Wildie to be developed in the way that Clan suggests.
All in all, I think this is a positive signing and, so long as he learns quickly from the example of his young colleagues and puts in 100% effort, I'll support Hickey whilst he's wearing the Trinity jersey. Stevo will love him by the way - he's a massive unit!

I think, he will bring experience of playing at the highest level, it's great we have loads of young British guys playing for us, but we all know, we need more experienced heads in there, signing even more young inexperienced guys, isn't what's best for us at the moment, imo. Hopefully he comes fit and raring to play because reading the Doggies forum, his weight was a issue, which by the sounds of things he's been working on, but he brings huge size and go forward which is what we need.
I hope Amor can stay, because with Hickeys signing, it's starting to look like a pack which can compete and lay that foundation for the backs to attack, but I wouldn't be surprised if Leeds call him back.

| Great boost for the club. Good to see we can still persuade players to sign on especially when Salford were also supposedly showing an interest too.

| I've never seen the guy play, so I can't really comment but I will say that if he's good enough for John Kear then he's good enough for Imwakefieldtillidie.
That means we now have Hickey, Korki, King, Amor, Johnson, Higgins and Gledhill to fill our prop positions. Does anyone else think we're starting to look a little short of hookers and full backs?!

Fullbacks we are fine, Blaymire, Murphy and Vievers. Hookers we are light on I agree.

| it is not too easy to predict who will go well when signing from nrl... the two competitions are so very different... as for a comparison... Hickey is many times the player that Leano is... a different player to Tronc... more in the Darren Fritz mould.
he was given a big money contract at the doggies but in a big strong pack... doing well in the NRL he couldnt break the incumbents... dogs this year have rung the changes...bringing in more big money signings from penrith, melbourne and cronulla.. hickey was... to the suprise of many... on the outer.
he will go well with our good young forwards...

Almost any criticism of Blaymire is reasonable apart from that one. It is the best part of his game, and his stats I'm told put him right at the top in that respect. If you're going to knock a player at least try to get it right.'"
