I suppose this is the problem with the Internet. Someone hears something and posts it on here and all hell breaks loose. The problem is that we are not aware of the facts and have a knee jerk reaction and I'm guilty of that and for that I apologise but its due to the strong feelings we have for the Club we all love.

I am particularly sensitive as his sponsor and I feel a bit of a "Jonah" as everyone I sponsor (Davis, Solomona, Ferris) leave the club under a cloud.

If what has been said about Stoz having to obtain a Macedonian or Serbian passport are true and I have no reason to disbelieve them then Stoz must share some responsibility and work to resolve it.

I have been informed that Stoz is still a Trinity player and is training with the rest of the squad and that the Club are working on trying to obtain a passport with him and are hopeful of being successful and him playing with us next year.

I certainly hope we are successful in keeping him as I don't want to have to put the "kiss of death" on any more players.

After sleeping on this l am still fuming about the situation.

Now l am more than happy to eat humble pie (and hope l do!), but l honestly believe the club has put itself in a stupid position and from the outside looking in it seems Stotic has 'played' the club.

l bet he does not get this sorted within the next month, and very shortly after we will sign for another SL club, no doubt on better terms. He is a father with young children, and would be irresponsible to have left himself in this position, without a back up ‘plan’!

That is life l suppose, but the club are left a major player down with little time to sort it out and will have played a major part in this!

As has already been mentioned (or hinted at) if you put yourself in a position where you are bending the rules and exploiting loopholes like we clearly are doing then you run the risk of something like this happening.

The league needs to tighten up on this for the long term benefit of the game and stop this sort of thing happening. Its just a shame it's us and one of our better players that has to be one of the first victims.

Once the overseas players who were playing SL in this country when the new regs come into effect have retired then this will naturally bring down the numbers.

In theory yes, but as long as the Clubs want to try and skirt round the regs then I don't really see how the league can stop them. There needs to be a willingness from the clubs to want to stick to the rules - and I don't think it's there at the moment.

The regulations affect only new to SL non-fed players and quota players. In theory there should only be 6 overseas players this year with a max limit of 5 quota players.

Jeffries, Tronc, Obst, Millard, Morrison are the quota players and Stosic should've been the non-fed.

That leaves Blanch, Demetriou, Latu, Henderson and Korkidas as the imports unaffected by the rulings. These players all have European passports (or are Kolpack) and were playing in SL before the new regs came into effect. When this type of player has retired then the only loophole to get round would be changing a quota player into a non-fed, but there would still be a limit on import numbers, so gone would be the days when clubs are fill up with imports who are unaffected by restrictions on overseas players.

I'm not clued up completely on these matters but, as I understand it, you have it about right there - i.e., as players leave / retire they cannot be replaced in the same numbers.

This achieves 2 things:
1 There won't be any claims against the game for loss of employment / earnings from those who were already here legitimately and would lose their places.
2 The clubs, like ours, have a timescale in which to develop a greater reliance on own produce. We have taken that message on board in a big way - hence the massive improvement in the Academy side.

Whatever that idiot MG says, we are heading in the right direction, but, in the meantime, we MUST remain competitive on the pitch and we MUST do what we need to to stay so!

I just don't see how it would work in practis - I agree they have good intentions. Again, do you think clubs or players will try and find a way round? What's to stop a player challenging this in the European Court? Can it be legal to restrict trade like that? I just can't see it working in the real world - mainly becuase I doubt clubs have the desirt to stick to it.

It's not new though. Same setup last year. They have just reduced the numbers.
So if it was going to be challenged they would have already done it.

and they are not saying people can't get a job. They are saying there is a limited number of spaces and it is up to the club to select who gets them.

Clubs will always look for ways to bend the rules, just as they do on the field. Hopefully this policy should limit the amount of bending they can do.

I believe the actual wording (non-federation trained) has been thought out to get round European law as it’s not restricting trade on the grounds of nationality. The RFL lawyers will have already anticipated a challenge so they will have made it as water tight as they can. Whether this stands up in court well we’ll find out if/when it is ever challenged, however, I think football is looking to introduce a similar policy so there must be something in it.

not a bad read really, i think the Wakefield club knew all about this and thye have obviously planned for it's eventuallity. maybe the media hype may oil the wheels for his passport?

if not a deadline has been set by the end of the month? if so you can imagine the likes of cas and a few others with room for one more quota player will look to take him for a year!
