One of my favourite overseas players.
He had a lot of skill and quite classy.

He played 6 because we were struggling there and he was being wasted without the ball.

Great player.

Did we also have a s/o from Aus called Jackson who played when Kelly was in charge, Think we got promotion and he went off to Salford but didnt get much game time.

I remember him looking a bit like a lion with his long blonde mane.

I remember being gutted at the time when he went to Salford.

He was equally gutted after we won promotion, he did everything he could to get out of the deal with Salford and once at the Willows he played like he really didn't want to be there!

If i remember correctly it was in the days of scrumdown being on ITV. Very good player who could bust tackles.

thats the man Casey. I remember him leading the team in a club chant at the end of the game. He played his heart out for the club.

I remember him being very keen to stay. If only he had known we would get promoted, signed the contract before

Late 80s in old second division Oldham were favourites and it was at the watershedings we won I'm sure Billy Conway got MOM and said it's going behind bar for the lads to have a good drink.

I've got all the games when we were on Scrumdown, I used to record us even if we were just on the news for 30 seconds, there's bits and bobs of stuff all over the place. Got Brian Jackson playing v Cas at home on a foggy day, think he scores under the posts in the second half. He and Ray Price did very well for us in the short time they were here.

That must be the game where Rambo Ronnie Gibbs collides with Phil Eden and is in cuckoo land. Programme ends with Ronnie staggering about with Wishing on a star playing. Wonder what Phil Eden is doing these days?

Still running into big blokes but probably coming off worse than he did with Ronnie!

As some people have already mentioned Jackson played centre for Parra but he played a lot at stand off for us.
My mate got talking to him in a pizza shop about coming back the next season, said he would like to but I think he was going back home to do a sports degree.
I was at Swinton when we played them in the Cup, he scored coming on the bump straight from a tap penalty to get us a 10 all draw.
Then I think we beat them 32-4 in the replay.

He played 2 more seasons at Parramatta after us. He was still at top of his game.
We had a good one there.

I remember all these games and I think it may even relate to the only season when I saw every single game, home and away! (Ah the days of being a school kid).

I remember Brian Jackson and he really impressed. I think we even called him Wacko Jacko although that name was applied more to Michael (who also played his heart out for us).

There is one game I remember most about Brian Jackson and he had a blinder. Hull FC were on a long unbeaten run and were strong favourites to beat us at Belle Vue. Brian Jackson had a stormer and tore them apart. I can't remember the scoreline but we had a comfortable victory.

Dave Smith record try scorer of early 70s? Don't know a Riley at centre at that time........nor why he is relevant to the Jackson thread but I'm intrigued now.

I remember one incident with Jacko playing at half back, it was straight from a scrum in our half & as soon as he got the ball he put a kick to the oppositions line , the fullback was up in line with the scrum & had to about turn to his own line. I'm not sure if we scored or not but it was a great move not seen so many times down at Belle Vue.

John Kear had us do that move two or three times when we had Fox and White on the wings (pace). It was particularly effective against Bradford at home where Paul White ran rings round Karl Price who played opposite him. When we kicked from a scrum in our 20, White was putting the ball down at the other end while Price was still turning round.

I'd use it against Cas too. Carney isn't the best at that either.
Depends on big kicker too though.
When we had Brough it was a good move. I'm not sure our current kickers can get that kind of distance to make it a long race.
