| think a lot of people are forgetting what a franchise actually is, in legal terms. Basically it you buying in to the owner of the franchise to do what they say in the way they say it, Super league is NOT a sport, its a franchise, it does not matter how good or bad you are you are chosen as to how to promote the main owner ie super league uk, and its major backer - sky sports.
it does not even matter if you make money really for the franchise masters, so long as the global image is right and the main backer happy, put it this way if there was a mcdonalds in the vatican do you thing they would ever shut it if it lost cash, er no.
were gone in my humble, mainly because we thought we were still playing rugby league, with the old masters and the old rules.

True. Wakefield ended up below Fev that season, but weren't in a relegation place. We were booted out just like Fev. We won our way back in, against Fev, fair and square, on the pitch, where it counts. And whether you want to believe it or not, we've always complied with the minimum requirements for a SL stadium too... until now, of course. The bitterness of Fev fans should be directed elsewhere.

| I'm bitter. I acknowledge that. But not necessarily just with Wakey. I'm bitter with the gang of 3 who organised this concept years ago/ I'm bitter with the clubs that voted for it, Wakey being one of em.
I'm bitter with the clubs who voted against the NL champs gaining promotion a few years ago - Dews Hunslet - again Wakey being one of them.
I'm bitter at all the adverse comment from the press, the RFL/SL clubs and chairman made towards clubs in the NL. I'm bitter about some of the condescending comments doled out from fans of SL clubs to life outside SL - again, Wakey being an example of this!
It's not just wakey, but you get the picture I'm bitter about how the game is going. So when the gravy train is hitting the buffers shaking one or two off, sympathy and understanding and myself are somewhat difficult to find stood together!!!

I havent a problem with the 98 final, you beat us so deservedly took your place amongst the elite, my problem is what happened after. All the clubs agreed to give you a payment as the super league clubs wouldnt share there pot. Then you kicked us all in the teeth by voting to stop P+R disgraceful if you ask me, boy will that come back to haunt you when you get kicked out and can never get back. Next season will be the most difficult for you no matter how well you do in the league it wont matter, just like Fev in 95, you will write letters to RL papers, even MPs but it wont matter weve been there, no one listens. They will kick you out averaging around 5k, just like Fev did in 95 without a care in the world, you will scream about the injustice and no one will listen just like we did in 95. Then the seasons after your crowds will plummet and you will be replaced by a french team just like fev in 95 and that French team will probably get less crowds than you and may not even survive more than a couple of years, but whatever happens they wont put you back up. Also in 95 Fev reached the challenge cup semi just like you the other year, we had real hopes of going all the way now i have come to terms with the fact that because of the RFL stance i will never, ever see my team in one again, neither will you. Then the worst bit is after a few years of the championship you get young fans who wont know what you once were, fans of super league clubs that one day couldnt lace your boots mocking your club for the low fan turn outs. Get used to it its coming your way

Christ you are a cheery buggar aren't you?
I sympathise but no matter what division Trinity are in I shall follow them, and if we do get the boot
the thought of games against Fev, Batley, Dewsbury don't fill me with any dread at all!
No one will mock me for supporting my hometown club, and as for low turn outs, who cares?
We get a bit of stick for that nowadays anyway!
I dont want us to get the chop, but I won't be crying about it if we do.

You see Rovers, this is the bit i dont understand.
As you have stated EVERY club barring Fev voted in favour.yet you continue to aim your anger and bitterness at just one of those clubs - Wakey. How could we have kicked you all in the teeth, when your fellow clubs voted in favour as well?
Your opinion that Wakey were just saying im alright Jack, would mean that the same could be said for each and every club that voted in favour, again you aim your anger and bitterness at just one of those clubs.
FWIW,i never have believed in the fundamentals of a system that removes the spirit of the game -- promotion and relegation.
I dont for that matter believe in the play offs, its absurd that a team can lose over half its games finish 8 th in the league and then be crowned champions.
I also have little time for expansion, stuff London, stuff Wales, stuff helping the French. But the game got itself in this mess and we now play to the tune of Sky,i dont like it,but thats the reality.
If Wakey lose their license we have no one to blame but ourselves. It will be a shame and quite possibly a disaster for the club. But ive supported them for over 30 years and will continue to do so.

The difference between Salford, Wakey & Cas is, Salford have a Council that’s paying for their Ground, whereas, Wakefield MDC aren’t giving either club a dime.
It’s not through the hard work of the club or fans, you just got lucky.

I wouldn't ever want to speak for rovers, as you can tell, he can manage that perfectly well for himself!
But his anger isn't just at one club, it's probably at all SL clubs.
But Wakey are going to be the one's feeling the brunt as they are now going to have to face life as we have for the last generation or so - where apathy is abound and hopes and aspirations to go onto greater things are all but snuffed out by those running the game! A mechanism that Wakey were part of and now feeling the @rse end of!!!
We now see a proliferation of comments re P&R, how it should be brought back etc where previously there has been a derth of such comments. Moreover, I remember reading the majority of comment supporting the proposed franchising system from people on this board, particularly when relegation might have been a real possibility!
So this is why you might see anger and bitterness. It's not all at Wakey, just that you are now the target. If it was Cas, it would be no different.

The thing is, Trinity were hardly guaranteed of a license, and IMO it was only Widnes’ downfall that enabled the club to gain a license. By the time licenses were handed out, relegation wouldn’t have been an issue due to improved on field results so in reality the club were putting themselves in potential danger of relegation when their on field results had provided a degree of safety from that event.
All this gnashing of teeth about the club having the ‘I’m alright Jack’ attitude is misplaced. They were one of the SL clubs in real danger of being demoted, as they are now.
I also remember many at the time still wished for PR. Me personally, I think licensing should be given time to see how it pans out. If Trinity are demoted, and if they survive, I would still support them and I would hope the club get on with things and develop the club (as Featherstone appear to have been doing) and not wallow in self pity. What they need to do is try their damndest to make sure they are a better proposition come 2014, ready for the next set of license renewals.

I know nothing of your new stadium I must admit, but its a shame from my perspective the willows is seemingly on its way out. Always liked standing in your away end even if we once went 4 halves without scoring. Decent little ground for me

A lot of that is fair enough, IMO. However, as far as P&R is concerned, I think a lot of the fans on here want to see it brought back because of the meaninglessness that many of the games now have, which in turn exposes the lack of quality entertainment that most are complaining about. I'll be honest, I was for a franchise system when the concept was first introduced, because I thought it would improve the quality of the rugby, that we'd see a lot more inventive play, and a lot more local players in the team. Whilst we're not doing too bad in terms of bringing on the next generation, most people on here will tell you that the quality of the rugby in the latter half of this season has been very poor. But that may just be a Wakey. I haven't seen enough of it to be able to judge, though, and in many ways, I'm quite thankful.

The reason Wakey are worst than the rest is because when they were promoted the clubs below super league all voted to give Wakey some money out of there pot so they could go into super league as super league clubs wouldnt share there pot. The understanding was Wakey would champion the cause of P+R. Wakey took the money and went back on there word.

So the Championship clubs gave us money to champion the cause of P&R 10 years before it was abolished.

| Quote ="rovers"The reason Wakey are worst than the rest is because when they were promoted the clubs below super league all voted to give Wakey some money out of there pot so they could go into super league as super league clubs wouldnt share there pot. The understanding was Wakey would champion the cause of P+R. Wakey took the money and went back on there word.'"
Rovers, but the self same teams that gave Wakefield the money, all ,bar Fev,voted the same way as Wakefield,as you keep telling us -- Fev were the only ones to vote against.
So in essence the clubs below super league paid Wakey to champion their cause, but when it came to voting, they didnt even champion it themselves, apart from Fev that is.Can you not see how ridiculous that is.
