Not everyone, had Wakey top on up town was stopped by a few people who were talking a bit and they were amazed when I said we had play off game at home. Kind of sums it up, but still the promo team need to get them selfs out there more and get people to realise what is going on., I am sure if they put some time and effort in it will add people to the gate. Make people more aware than ever.

Still think most will pay on gate as there was never any chance that it would be a sell out

To be fair most people I know who are going are paying on the door.
Should be a decent walk up (with regards to the actual attendance) so I wouldn't be too worried about ticket sales.

Not having a go at you as I know you mean well. Talk to Jimmy Elston he knows all about marketing at wakey and he also knows about doing the same at HKR. Both clubs are a world appart, he will tell you HKR don't need to spend a penny on marketing, their supporters love the club and will turn up for everything.
I have been watching our club for years and I really used to think if we got a good side people would turn up like they did in the 60's. The only lifeline I am clutching is the new ground because in all fairness Belle Vue now fails to offer the modern match day experience. If people don't come back to RL when we get our ground we may as well pull the plug on RL in this City.

| And I do agree with what you say, we should not need to promote it but the sad fact is we do. We need to try something to get people back to the games. This season, our best season in super league and yet they still don't turn up.
Dreading to see how many turn up tonight, if they don't tonight when willt hey turn up? Certianly can't see them coming next season

Yes, it's a struggle when we're on the telly, but speak to people and they still have negative views on the club from the dramas of the dim and distant past.'"
Yeah well we all do, not bothered about the youth structure and supporting that, not really club supporters then are they.
Excuses thats all.

As for todays game, not been in town centre today but would have been good if there was a promo team there to advertise the game, we have something to be proud about so let's shout about it. Even if it just adds a few onto the game it's still a sucess!
Let's hope we are all suprised by the attendance tonight, in a good way!!'"
Wakey fans should know when the Academy/Reserve grade play, thats what being a fan involves, programmes/website/wakey express what more do you need.
Yes the Promo team could do more but i doubt the budget is enough to do cover it all.
Lets face it the people of Wakey don't care and unless we hit the younger ones now (and look at the grief the dancers get) and attract the future age group we are on a downward spiral.
Bet you 5000 people watch the game in the pubs tonight around Wakey and spend more that 18 quid doing it. They won't come no matter what the marketing team do in the city centre.

Club could make more people aware, announce it at games etc. As for programmes there not worth the money, not bought one for ages.
I used to go to every reserve/Academy game but this season i've missed most. Used to be great when they played before the first team.
I enjoy watching the academy they play some good rugby, but I don't have many complaints at the numbers that turn up.

How do you know then? They have improved tremendously over the past couple of seasons and there is lot more to read in them.
The club would welcome anyone with the wit, wisdom and time to put something together for each home game next season - but don't expect anything for it, the programmes are a big financial loser!

Fine, they are excuses. Yes, I'm not too bothered about going to see anything other than the first team because there is more to my life than the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats....if that doesn't make me a 'club supporter', so be it!

Think you've mis-understood what I put there..
I was on about the announcer not announcing that the academy game had an upcoming match against Wigan at home for a place in the grand final.
When the lads are being paraded around the pitch to acknowledge their achievement of finishing top of the league, why was it so hard to announce that the lads had an upcoming home tie against Wigan for the right to go straight into the grand final.
I knew at that point that they were to play Wigan because of a post Bilko put on here, if I hadn't have seen that I wouldn't have known, likewise my Dad who is one of the biggest Wakey fans you could ever meet didn't know until I told him.
To me that is slack from the club and would have been so easy to do.

I'm not bothered about anything other than the first team thats your call but some of us like to think they may be first teamers in the future, but only if they recieve support now. You can't have it both ways can you.

| It's a combination of factors thats affected our attendance this season, Thornes park falling through, Sky games moved to saturday etc and the state of Belle Vue and we were still only a 1000 short of cas who never shut up about there crowds, so I wouldn't worry too much. It's been a long time since our great team and stadium of the 60s yet cas hkr had great teams in the 80s so we've more time to make up and generations lost. The biggest problem is BELLE VUE the worse ground by far in SL and the sooner we get the new stadium the better and we will kick on from there.

Yeah but Belle Vue isnt the reason we got less fans in 2009 than 2008, despite having a better team!

No misunderstanding - except on your part I'm afraid.
Because we didn't know whent the first team were going to play, we couldn't be certain of the day / time of the academy game. So, rather than give out duff info, they gave none.
Perhaps they could have hedged their bets, but as it was the game was going to be Saturday, then Friday, then Sunday, then Friday again before agreement was reached with Wigan.
The club sure get some stick for things they supposedly don't do - but then again how many have offered to come and join us at 7pm tonight when the entire future of the club is in the hands of the supporters?

No, but that's not as simple as you are suggesting. Sure there is the financial stuff, but I think you could add the following events to the list of reasons:
1 The collapse of the Thornes Park stadium - many people thought we were doomed from that point.
2 Adam Watene / Leon Walker - Although many have rallied around, there will be some who will have been put off by all the doom and gloom around the place.
3 Sky - we have had several 'big' matches on Sky which will certainly put some off.
But as for the financial stuff, my theory is that this affects the away support more than the home support. Most keen fans will have a season ticket, and will therefore attend the home games, but if they are going to be choosey about their away games, then a game at the delightful BV, in the rain, when shown on Sky, is not going to get a big crowd. FWIW I believe that there are answers that need to be considered as a game and not just club by club - but that is just my opinion.

Yes mate I see what PB meant now, I'm aware that the fixture wasn't totally clear as it was originally pencilled in for Saturday 2.30 and was then changed to Friday night after they knew the first team arrangements.
However, I still feel some info is better than none at all, just something along the lines of them having an upcoming home fixture against Wigan and to check websites or the local press for details and to get down and support the lads. I'm sure if something like that was being said as the lads were actually walking round the field then it may have caught people's attention.
Also, while on the subject of academy games and attendances, am I right in remembering in the days of Danny Brough and co that they once organised one of their own fixtures, promoting it, selling tickets, dancers, etc, etc... and ended up getting a very good turnout too?

It was against Halifax on a Sat afternoon but IIRC it was a bit after Broughy's time?
Around 1,000 turned up.
