On the other hand whilst I liked young tom prior to his injury he seems to have gone backwards and it was alarming how easily Rocky ran him down recently.
If an NRL team really had the money to buy out a wingers contract then surely they would go for the proven complete winger. Super Leagues record holder for most tries in a season, Denny.

What a load of sheite, Tom at full fitness would have left Hampshire for dead . Weeks out with a broken leg, to sprint the same on your first game back get a grip

| Jowett had plenty of game time this year I've been impressed by him. Think the last 10 games his defensive effort has been shocking tho but the lad maybe tired. Hope to see an improvement next year.

| I am really pleased with Max's progress and that he has had such a good run of games. He plays in a position where having a string of games is important to help him develop and I don't think he needs resting too much.
He is already good at certain things - reading the game and cleaning up kicks, linking and support play and taking high balls with confidence.
As has been pointed out he does get beaten to easily 1-on-1 sometimes but at his age it is something he can work on with the coaches - his defensive confidence should also grow as he develops physically.
I think he will be our full back for a few years to come now.

let's not forget that Max and Tom are both rookies and tbf play outside some pretty low grade centres.
Great achievement for Solomona however, I hope he does go the NRL

No doubt Solomona is a gem picked up by Cas'.
With the same service however TJ will also score a bucketful of tries in any season.
Additionally, he's a homegrown talent with lots more to come yet .

| I will echo that, re Tom Johnstone and his injury.
I recall coming back from a broken ankle, and it took a couple of months really from coming back, and actually getting any kind of pace back.
A pre season behind him, and would like to think that come the start of 2017, he will be back to something like his best.
Also, it will be good to see the Ash Gibson back, I was talking to him the other day, he says he is now fit and raring to go for pre season. It will be like having a new player. Thought before his injury, he was starting to look ok, and a handful to opposing defences

| I dont think that this is too much of an understatement but, without the progression of Tom & Max, we would have been unlikely to make the top 8.
Max was unlucky not to start the season at FB after an excellent pre season and he was instantly better than one of our "big" close season signings, BJB, in that position.
Well done to both lads and lets hope that they continue their excellent progress in the red, white & blue of Trinity.
Always 100% for the cause and no little amount of quality

Show me any fullback who doesn't!!
As has been said previously by others, if your fullback is having to make 1-on-1 tackles it is generally because someone else has missed a tackle elsewhere. I'm not saying he doesn't need to improve that particular skill, but he's by no means the only fullback in SL that has that issue. In our team it is probably highlighted more than in others as we have been pretty shocking defensively across the whole line.

| God some people are a bit touchy. I'm shocked to say I actually side with Vastman this time, what's wrong with a little bit of constructive criticism? If you were to rate his first season in the first team you'd probably say 8/10, safe as houses under the high ball, good positioning and links up very well in attack. But over the off season could do to bulk up a little bit and get some work in at holding up defenders over the try line. This is a forum after all, not some cult where you can only lavish the players with praise.

You'll get barred calling folk cults.
Seriously tho, I think what people are saying. On a number of occasions Max has had a player running at him and not made the slightest attempt to tackle them. Maybe because of his shoulder? And he may not have stopped them anyway, just looks poor when it happens

| Have to say my personal favourite defensive fullback was Geoff Wraith (until he defected to Cas). Not many players got past him. I once saw him run from one corner of his own try line, the full length of the line to make try-saving tackle on the opposite corner. Great stuff. My best attacking and kicking full back has to be Gary Cooper. Jowitt has the makings of an international full back'

| Got to agree regarding Geoff Wraith being defensively the best. Always remember him once making a tackle down the East Stand touch line, defending the North end, where he tackled the centre and swung his body/legs round to simultaneously take out the wing man! Think he went to Oz before he defected to Cas.
Blotted his copy book later though when he resigned as our coach before his 1st season had even started.

Think leeds and wraith were best I ever seen in a trinity shirt - all i ever remember of harold box was his unerring ability to not find touch when kicking after a penalty, Leeds played 95-96 mainly at full back, geoff wraith sadly shouldn't have ever donned a trinity shirt again after his first stint- i was at the keighley cougars game when we had i think 3 best off, including our esteemed coach for a clothes line that would have done a wrestler proud. Totally out of character and probably a reflection of how frustrated he was on the day and with all things trinity.
Great guy off the field sadly suffering from health problems now.

| On his debut season, he's acquitted himself remarkably well; congratulations to the lad, and his family - he can end the season with his head held high and proud of his contribution to a fantastic turnaround in fortunes.
I'm sure he doesn't need internet experts to tell him about the parts of his game that need attention - so I shan't bother; I look forward to seeing him improve over the coming years.

Wind your neck in a bit Bren - though I get your point I can't see any offence or criticism on this thread from anyone. You're straying into Wollo's territory here and that's not a good thing.
I'm all for being positive and supportive but we might as well close the forum if we can't even discuss and element of a players game that in the opinion of the author needs some attention.
As stated in the opening post he's done really well. However I'm sure you'll agree that there is a huge problem in the British game where good youngsters like Jowitt break through for a season and never progress. It's as if it's decided that after a few SL games you don't need further tuition and you're on your own which is absurd. That gap between a players breakthrough years 19-21 and when they should be maturing into the finished article 25+ seems to be a wilderness few emerge from. This is why IMHO we in the UK produce so few world class creative players.
Jowitt has it all potentially but for me doesn't look a natural tackling machine though I accept at 19 it's hard to make a real judgement. I just don't want it to be neglected (not that anyone import ants listening), if it's an area he needs help I want him to get it, that's all.
I have never seen a player who has absolutely no flaws in his game so why the offence on here from some at a small short coming in Jowitt's game being noted on an obscure forum I don't get though I'm not surprised.
I read a lot of autobiographies and one quote (can't remember who) fit's this issue.
Went something like this "Anyone can enjoy mastering the parts of the game they are naturally good at, but the true legends are those who endlessly battle to through the cold winter nights to overcome their shortcoming"

I'm not commenting on people who have chosen to point out the obvious areas for development in his game - just stating that I choose not to; feel free to debate - it makes no odds to me!
