it was at our request that we swapped Moore for McShane, from what I saw not the best money saving idea.

First of all, Salford on paper are almost the strongest team in the 8's. Chase, Dobson, Jones-bishop, Sau, Patterson, really poor players eh?! I think not, for all their off field problems, lets not forget just a few weeks ago they scored 30 odd unanswered points against HKR, so when their heads are on, they are a match for anybody. Considering we didn't turn up until almost half time, we did pretty well. The last 10 minutes was shocking, Scott Moore was poor most of the game, Sio was probably having his best game so far, yet was taken off?! Shame for Tupou because thought he was playing well, but obviously his decision not to pass did cost us the game. Scruton at dummy half?! Just brain explosions sadly. Positives, at times Miller and Smith did combine well, negatives, long kicking game was awful. Thought Mullally and Molloy were good. Lee Smith excellent goal kicking, but he's too slow for me.....

Moore had a 4 v 2 on his outside and chose to kick anyway just because it was the last tackle, poor kick at that. He then got stepped when he should have made the tackle.

Reece Lyne despite being a winger and reputedly a speedster never made much effort to chase back but then totally gave up with 45 metres still to run to the try line.

We had that game won then preceded to throw it away with bad decision making, poor execution, unforced errors and soft penalties which is typical Wakefield.

Hard work to avoid the million pound game now that is unless we finish 6th or below

Jesus when are we going to wake up and smell the coffee, that we're in a dogfight for our lives.

But what I don't get is, why are people so surprised?!! We are an average team at best, the league table doesn't lie does it? In a normal 27, 28 game season we would have conceded over 1000 points, we have only made small improvements under BS, not enough to suggest we can beat any Super League opposition sadly. Let's not forget though, when asked in his first interview, BS said what needed fixing wasn't rocket science, they were his words, yet we have won once under him in 9 is it now?

It's disappointing that we didn't win but you can't seriously be suggesting we haven't improved under Smith?

Like I said, small improvements, but obviously not enough?! At the end of the day, we have to start winning games, simple as, there's no hiding place for the players, coaching staff or anyone, can't keep blaming the ref etc every week and hiding behind lame excuses, I've actually stood up for them a bit by bulling up Salford in a previous post! The first half hour was inexcusable as re. lack of just enthusiasm, I make no wonder if true he and the players now won't speak to the press.

The 6th tackle play and a bit of discipline around the ruck cost us in first half.

First half kicking game was shocking! Salford kept getting the ball on the front foot and played on from there. Also dummy half marking was awful right from the kick off, if you cant do it from the start what chance do you have later in the game! We cant keep giving teams leads and hoping we can come back, This coupled with a PROP at dummy half after the hooker took a scamper, passing the ball into touch under no pressure, flopping on the tackle when the game was in the balance, kicking out on the full from the kick off, BASICS, BASICS!!!

I am sorry but the tackling for the Griffin try's both of the brothers was nothing short of appalling. I admit we have improved but sadly still not enough. We have changed the team, allowed players to leave and be replaced by those we wanted but still we lose.
The most worrying thing is that we have been building up for these games for several weeks and still lose to a team in disarray off the field.
I would also say that it is time to play Johnston in place of Lyne because he has genuine pace and I doubt we will see him again next season if we are relegated.

Agree on Johnson. He probably would have caught Chase.

I would have Johnstone in there every week on merit, by far the best winger at the club. The others could scrap over the other wing spot.

No idea how Owen found his way back into the team.

Totally agree, especially George Griffin. When he was on loan to us he couldn't break out of a brown paper bag.
I would like to see that again to find out who the culprits were.

I do not want to sound that I`m blaming the Ref for our defeat, but why did he always stop the clock when a player went down. I thought the game only got stopped for head injuries / knocked out, but Salford seemed to be going down when we were in the ascendancy and the momemtum was lost by us. A good tactic if the Ref gives in to it all the time.

Normally I'd agree, the 2 points didn't really change anything as far as Salfords task was concerned and we gave up a great field position while risking a mistake from the resulting exit set.

However

From the resulting exit set we went 100 metres downfield and forced a drop out thus regaining the field position we'd had.

It was the wrong decision but in hindsight it didn't hurt us!

The turning point was Scott Moore's inability to play with his head up, he had a 4 v 2 on the last tackle but kicked anyway, the kick was awful, and just gifted Sau possession, Moore then missed a simple tackle leaving Chase to run 90 metres aided and abetted by a token attempt to catch him from Lyne.

Whilst we didn't lose that field position, we weren't 8 points up like we could've been had we not taken the 2 points. Simple errors lost us that game.

Some positives to take from the game though, Sio being the biggest positive for me.

There was no guarantee we'd have been 8 points up, what we gave away was field position in return for 2points, risky as I've explained in my previous post.

In the very next set we regained almost the same field position, thus taking the 2 worked out for us. Unfortunately we missed a scoring chance from it via Tupou and then missed another scoring chance on the opposite side before gifting Salford the lead.
