Thats what I've thought all along but would it just be papering over the cracks.
Staying up should be easily achievable but you really need to kick on next season and some how increase the attendances.
Not easy I know.

Stopping getting beat by 50+ points every match will increase attendances it's as simple as that.

Agree 100% mate but I don't know where you start. Winning a few would be great but seeing the team that turns out giving their all for the full 80 minutes would be a start. Haven't seen your remaining fixtures so I don't know if there are any you would be targeting for wins.

What I like is that not only does he sound positive but so do others when commenting on his appointment. I haven't heard one negative point about him and if he transfers that belief we will improve and beat the drop

Only the usual idiot brigade slated Blaymire - never in a million years an International due to his astonishing lack of pace but did the basics for us and allowed what limited resources we had to be spent on Drew and Brough.

| Whilst talking about full backs, what does Max Jowitt have to do to get a run out??? Having seen him on many occasions throughout his short career, there is no fear of us been any worse off as a team by giving him a chance and the lad is a natural full back. The only one in the squad in fact!!
Back on topic, any update on when BS will arrive, if he hasn't already?

Always remember that first game in perpignan in 2006 when we played at the rah rah ground, and got skanked by Kirkpatrick and one of the chuckle Bros. (Connelly's) I say one because they were both there and one was supposed to be the video ref(what a joke) on the flight home I was sat next to monty right behind big Dunc, he was sat on his own in that row of seats in the middle with the leg room, despite all the goings on around him with Paul White suffering at the hands of Marchy, Adkins, Whittle, and Tom Saxton, Dunc just sat down opened his book and didn't put the book down till we reached Manchester oblivious to what was going on around him.
I remember seeing you and your kid and Bloomers the year after, did you go in 2006?

I've got no doubts that Jowitt is better than what's currently playing but my worry is for him not the team.
He needs to be introduced carefully, in for a couple then back out again, he's not ready to be the regular fullback in a team that's struggling so badly in defence.

I'd like to think there will be a press conference soon.
Whilst I'm not looking forward to another spanking on Sunday I am looking forward to Smith being introduced to the crowd. I'll certainly be applauding his welcome to our humble abode.

I agree, but as it stands he cannot get a sniff of any action, even if it was just a game or two. The coaches even decided to bring the leper that is Jarrod Sammut in before giving him a run out.
Don't get me wrong, i don't believe he is the next Billy Slater, but having seen him play for a few years now, i could confidently say he would be better (certainly no worse) than what i have witnessed already this season.

If you mean me Chis I think you might be mixing me up with JT and his brother? but yeah we all went with Bloomers the first 2 years 06/07.
Once sat with Dunc at our footy presentation night which was held at Wakey, he was really sound but a little bit reserved so not surprised by your tale.

| Back on topic, I'd say the appointment of Smith for a year is a very smart move. As his remit will be to solely focus on staying up this year, he's experienced enough to not give a toss if he puts any players noses out of place, and focus on what he can achieve in the short term. The only bad things I've heard about him are that his interpersonal skills aren't great with some players, and that he can be 'overly technical' - both complaints also levelled at his brother, usually by players he doesn't rate.
I really don't think Wakey could have picked anybody better for the short-term.
Hope this appointment has cheered you fans up.

For me, it certainly has. It far exceeded my expectations. I never even thought he'd be interested enough to apply never mind get the job.
As a fan I have a new air of confidence since his appointment. If I feel this positive I can only hope this feels are magnified in the dressing room (- although it will mean the players will have to work a whole lot harder and smarter now).

| I was talking to John Kear about coaching and we got on to Tony Smith. What he did say was that not all players like Tony but they all respect him. I suspect Brian will be of the same mould. If a coach is well liked by everybody then he's probably a bit soft and probably not respected as much. I notice the conditioner at Wakefield is forever engaging in banter with the players......

| He was on Radio Leeds a short time ago, James Deighton asked him what needs doing and he basically said it's a mammoth task but he wouldn't say how he would do it, that was for his thoughts only. He also said he doesn't want anyone who's not prepared for the journey to resurrect our fortunes, they can go and we can replace them. He said the hard work starts tomorrow, he will work with what he's got but maybe a couple of new faces may arrive in the next couple of weeks. That may depend of course on who if anyone leaves the club.

| Spoke well imo…..realised straight away about our lack of mental toughness, said you cannot be physically strong with -out the right mental attitude. Also liked the fact when asked if results were not too important but improvements were over the coming weeks he answered he wanted both….he likes to win. Given he hadn't spoke to the players before the game today, I am looking forward to see what happens next week now.
